This morning, the second major winter storm of the week is bearing down on the midwest. And headed to the northeast. And if thats not enough, a third, even more severe system is lining up to strike the atlantic seaboard this weekend. Todays storm will bring a combination of snow and freezing rain to an area stretching from nebraska to new england. This seemingly neverending series of storms is affecting business and travel. Yesterdays storm made travel difficult at best. In pennsylvania, trucks and cars slipped off roadways in the deep, wet snow. And many areas in the northeast got 8 inches or more. A state of emergency was declared in new jersey. Already today, more than 500 flights have been canceled nationwide. And more than 1300 are delayed. Meteorologist eric fisher of our boston station wbz has more on this latest weather system. That one storm has wrapped up, another one getting started. This is going to drop a lot of snow for a lost of folks over the next couple of days. Getting started, it will be moving across the plains and work its way into the midwest and eventually into the northeast. So a lot of states with winter storm advisories and watches, covering every two dozen states, as a matter of fact, everyone dealing with this particular system. Timing it out, we start with a storm system in the plains, heavy rainfall moving down from the Tennessee Valley as we head to the afternoon and evening. Snow expanding from cincinnati, to chicago, westward to omaha as we head towards tuesday evening. And as we head to wednesday, this snow heads to the northeast. New york, much of an icy mix. New york, boston, mainly a snowy event. Over towards detroit, there will be snow coming down of course a trickledown travel effect at the airports. This wraps up wednesday evening. In terms of total snow, 6 to 12, a wide swath, stretching from the northeast back towards the southern great lakes and into the plains. 3 to 6 on either side of that. A couple spots along the way may just get over a foot, another significant winter storm. Im meteorologist eric fisher. For cbs news.
