Good morning. Good to be with you. Im annemarie green. A 12yearold boy who allegedly opened fire at a new Mexico Middle School has been transferred to a psychiatric hospital. Charges are expected to be filed today. Police say the seventh grader carried a concealed shotgun into the school in roswell and opened fire yesterday morning. Two students were wounded. One is in satisfactory condition, but the other is in critical condition. Omar villafranca has our report. Reporter the school day had barely begun in roswell, new mexico. Students were gathered in the gym before heading to class when a fellow student entered carrying band instrument case. Police say he opened the case, pulled out a 20gauge shotgun and started shooting. Two students were shot, a boy and a girl, as well as a school staff member. Reporter the shooting lasted about ten seconds. Thats when the math teacher John Masterson approached the gunman. Mr. Masterson began to talk to him to put it down. The young man put the gun down and raised his hand. Reporter a state Police Lieutenant took the suspect into custody later. He was dropping off his son and he was brought inside by the principal. I commend the principal and the people who work at this school for saving many more lives. Reporter the student victims were flown to a hospital in lubbock, texas, while parents waited at a nearby mall to be reunited with their children. Reporter hundreds of roswell families attended prayer vigils tuesday night to pay for the injured and for healing. Omar villafranca, cbs news. A retired Tampa Police Officer charged with killing a man over a texting dispute in a theater is being held without bail. 71yearold Curtis Reeves is being charged with seconddegree murder. Witnesses say reeves shot and killed chad oulson after he refused to stop texting. Reeves told police he feared for his life, but Police Believe the stand your Ground Defense law does not apply. One of the defenses that somebody could use is this dangerous round. Through our investigation we looked at that angle. We could not determine that that could be a, you know, justifiable reason for why he shot the victim. Reeves faces prison if convicted. And this morning california firefighters are battling a string of potentially dangerous and aggressive wild fires fueled by the santa ana winds. Red flag warnings indicating fire danger are posted for much of central and coastal california. They are expected to remain in effect until later today. One fire destroyed several buildings on kimball island, north of San Francisco in. In riverside county, four homes were destroyed and two others damaged. Dozens of vehicles were also damaged. An Elementary School had to be evacuated. Another fire rolled up the cliff along the Pacific Coast highway near multimilliondollar clifftop homes. The highway was closed in both direction. And today the house is scheduled to vote on and expected to pass a 1. 1 trillion compromised budget deal. The huge spending bill was worked out in the appropriations committee. Believe it or not, i am in front of the capitol this morning. Heres whats happening today. Lawmakers in an Election Year wanted to show they could get something done. Now, this proposal funds almost every federal agency for a year. It proposes a 3 cut on Agency Budgets approved before last years budget cuts known as sequestration. Obamacare survived, but it does get funded at a lower level than the administration wants it. Theres a big funding increase for head start. Thats the Early Childhood education program. Theres also an increase for veterans medical care. President obama says he supposed this compromise. I was very pleased to see the house and the senate agree to a budget and to put forward a bill that would fund our government at levels that allow us to take some important steps to provide the services and the help that americans need. Now, on a separate matter, the senate was unable to agree on a deal to reinstate those longterm Unemployment Benefits that expired last month. Annemarie . Susan mcginnis in washington. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie outlined proposals on taxes, education, and crime during his stateofthestate speech, but the governor only briefly mentioned the political retribution plot that threatens his administration. Reporter it was provided to us by a source close to the family of ye meng yuan. They say everybodys off. Dont go in there. Reporter at first officials said the girl was zlinlt run over because she may have been hidden in foam from the spray, but 50 minutes later the helmet footage and individual yes from the fire truck show add number were warning firefighters of the victim on the ground near the jet. Whoa, whoa, whoa. Stop. Theres a body right theres a body right there. All right. Right in front of you. Reporter earlier a camera aboard rescue truck 10 show as firefighter directing the truck around a victim on the ground. Investigators agree that was 16yearold ye. A coroner ruled at that point she was alive. One lieutenant told crash investigators she made a threesecond visual assessment and thought thats our first casualty, but did not check the girls vital signs. Ye did become partially covered by the foam sprayed toward the plane. Some 15 minutes after the driver was first alerted about the victim on the ground, he ran ye over. A helmet camera also shows another truck drove over yes body minutes later. Attorneys representing the family. What the family wants is accountability. They want to know why werent the firefighters trained, why werent the supervisors certified, and why hasnt the Fire Department come clean about what happened. Our members that day had difficult decisions to make. One was visualizing someone that appeared to be dead versus going onto a burning plane with reports of people that still needed to be rescued. Reporter the firefighter wearing that helmet cam told ntsc investigators he was wearing it because in a previous fire he had attended where two firefighters were killed, a lot of questions went unanswered. The airbus a320 had just departed from laguardias airport when a bird strike caused both of the planes engines to lose power. With no air strip nearby to put the plane down, the pilot made the splitsecond decision to put the plane on the hudson river. It was minutes on its way to charlotte when a flock of geese hit the jet. He was supposed to land the plane at teterboro in new jersey, but instead he made the decision to glide the 120foot aircraft over the George Washington bridge and put it down safely on the hudson.
