Good morning. Good to be with you. Im annemarie green. Well, that nasty winter storm causing problems in the south is heading for the east coast this morning. The storm is blamed for at least 11 highway deaths, most in texas. Well, this morning, a winter storm warning has been issued for parts of west virginia, where 9 inches of snow could fall. In kentucky last night, a wintry mix made for some treacherous travel. Parts of North Carolina and virginia will see freezing rain and snow. And for most of the east coast, this storm will be a very heavy rain event. There was also a dangerous mix of snow and freezing rain in oklahoma, arkansas and missouri, before the storm moved completely tout sea, it will have impacted an estimated 100 million people. Eric fisher, the chief meteorologist at our boston affiliate wbz has an update on the storm. The storm has been a headache all the way since last week in heavy rain in southern california. For this morning, were watching much of the southeast, heavy rainfall in places like atlanta, charlotte. That rain will be stretching up across the appalachians and snow on the back side. Now, as we head towards this evening, a pretty fastmoving system, so into washington, d. C. Richmond, heavy rainfall here. And reaching into new york city and afternoon and evening. Snow places like cleveland, erie, p. A. , up towards buffalo and yet into wednesday morning, the heaviest rain will be found in places like new england and boston, portland. Well be looking at downpours, strong gusty winds up to 50 Miles Per Hour. And snow in eastern new york and upper canada. 3 to 5 inches in the upper appalachians. Total for the event in the northeast, widespread 1 to 3. One of the biggest rain events weve seen since all the way back in the summer for many areas. Then in terms of snow, mainly western new york and reaching back to the cleveland area, we could see up to a foot of heavy, wet snow, bringing down power lines and creating some outages. The only good news, by the time we get to thanksgiving, the whole country looks quiet. Im meteorologist eric fisher for cbs news. Two days left before thanksgiving and this powerful storm threatens to severely disrupt travelers. 90 of travelers this week will drive, according to aaa, nearly 40 million people. But airlines will be busier than usual this thanksgiving. One Industry Group predicts well see the most air travelers since 2007, and this storm has some of the nations busiest airports in its sights. Our flight was canceled. They canceled it and rescheduled it to chicago and then to boston. Reporter over the past few days over 1,000 flights have been canceled at the dallasft. Worth airport. Ive been waiting this for a long time, so having this is not the best for me. Reporter parts got hammered with dangerous mix of snow, ice, sleet and rain. And today that same weather targeted the midatlantic and some of the nations busiest and most delayprone airports like boston, new york and philadelphia. If you have a flight thats delayed or in fact canceled there are no other options because the next flight is already fully booked. Year dealing with more people vying for fewer seats, anyway, in great weather. Reporter airlines have already started to waive change of ticket fees. But its not just air travel, the storm is a driving issue as well. Last night in kentucky, roads were slick and visibility low. You could hardly see. We could just see like headlights coming at us. But pretty much, yeah, it was kind of blinding. Its been pretty terrible. Since i got on 75, its been rain and now, its all been ice and snow. Well, the windy forecast for thanksgiving day is jeopardizing a key component of the thanksgiving day parade. Here in new york, those big balloons. 16 balloons are scheduled to march in the parade. But if the wind exceeds 23 Miles Per Hour or gusts top 34 Miles Per Hour the balloons may be grounded. In 1997, a balloon was blown into a light pole and toppled and hit a woman who was in a coma for 23 days. Police believe lanza shot his mother four times at their home before heading to the school. The report provides new details about lanzas life, including a preoccupation with mass shooting. In particular the columbine shooting. A spreadsheet with mass murders over the year, listing information about each shooting. Investigators found a computer game titled School Shooting and images of lanza holding a handgun to his head. Before the shooting, lanzas mother nancy became concerned that her son hadnt gone anywhere in three months and would only communicate with her by email. The report also addressed lanzas Mental Health saying he was diagnosed with aspergers in 2005 and was prescribed by danger tours who treated him as presenting with significant social impairment and extreme anxiety. It was also noted that he lacked empathy. But those doctors did not see anything that would have predicted his future behavior. Data from adam lanzas gps shows he was in the vicinity of sandy hook elementary the day before the shooting. The family of the victims have been briefed on this report and chose not to comment.
