2013. Good morning. Good to be with you. Im annemarie. President obama heads to louisiana today to talk about the economy and jobs, but yesterday he tried to dampen the growing furor over the botched rollout of his health care plan. Specifically mr. Obama apologized to the millions of americans who are losing their Health Care Insurance policies. Tara mergener is in washington with more. Tara, good morning. Good morning, annemarie. The cancellation of insurance policies for millions of americans because of obama care may top the growing list of troubles with the Affordable Care act, sparking a mountain of criticism, trouble for democrats, and damaging the president s credibility. If you like your plan, you can keep your plan. For years the president has promised again and again that no one would be forced off an Insurance Plan they wanted to keep because of his Health Care Law, but more than 3 million americans have gotten cancellation letters, and late yesterday the president apologized during an interview with nbc news. I am sorry that they, you know, are finding themselves in this situation based on assurances they got from me. Weve got to work hard to make sure that they know we hear them and that were going to do everything we can to deal with folks who find themselves in a tough position as a consequence of this. Insurance policies that fall short of a new Health Care Law zarnd are no longer valid. The president says his administration is looking at a range of options to help people whose insurance has been canceled. The white house says fewer than 5 of americans will be required to change their coverage, but that means about 50 Million People. Some 250,000 live in colorado. Kathy wagner says shell have to pay 25 more for the same coverage. I really just wanted him to know i was so hopeful that this plan was going to move us forward, but, in fact, i think its moving us backward. The president said his administration wasnt as clear as it needed to be about health care reform. We are going to get this done. And the president dismissed charges he misled the American Public and insisted he acted in good faith. Annemarie . Tara mergener in washington. Thank you, tara. Well, this morning one of the strongest storms ever recorded ever to hit land is set to hit philippines. Super typhoon haiyan made landfall and set off landslides, cut off power and communications. At least four deaths have been reported. Millions have been forced to evacuate. Cbs news weather consultant David Bernard has more. This is truly a historic typhoon, category 5rks perhaps one of the most powerful storms on record ever to make landfall anywhere in the globe and if we take a look at haiyan today, this is the peak of winds sustained at 195 miles per hour. Now, as we go over the next several hours we can see the typhoon this morning is moving across the philippines. The eye isnt quite as defined as it was before, so obviously from a storm thats about as strong as it can possibly get, it will gradually begin to weaken. Its still a category 5 but will begin to weaken as it crosses the philippines today, and over the next 24 to 36 hours, it could still be a major typhoon. In fact, the forecast is for another landfall perhaps in vietnam as a category 3 storm sometime during the day on saturday or saturday night. Im David Bernard, cbs news, miami. Trans fats increase your risk for heart disease. It turns out that they elevate the socalled bad cholesterol, ldl. Will this save lives and avoid heart attacks . This action will save lives. The cdc estimates that if we can reduce the levels of trans fat currently in the american diet, we can probably save about 7,000 people from preventable death and prevent about 20,000 heart attacks. Trans fat is created by turning liquid Vegetable Oil into fat. Processed food manufacturers use it because it extends the shelf life and improves the flavor of some food including snack foods such as microwave popcorn, crackers, and cookies. Packaged soup, cakes, pies, and biscuits, stick marriage gins, vegetable shortenings, and frostings. Some restaurants use trans fats in fried food.
