Against freddie grays death in police custody. There was a march in philadelphia today as well. Late today, Baltimore Police gave the results of their investigation to prosecutors but did not make the details public so we still dont know how gray suffered his fatal spine injuries but the Police RevealedSurprising New evidence in his arrest and ride in the police van. Jeff pegues has more in baltimore. Reporter scott there were clashes with police in philadelphia tonight. A show of solidarity with protesters here in baltimore on the same day the police in the city released their report to the state Attorneys Office a day earlier than anticipated. Meanwhile, the autopsy report is expected to be finalized soon and the family of freddie gray will learn his cause of death tomorrow. Baltimore police today had a revelation. The van carrying freddie gray made a previously unknown stop. A forced stop. This was discovered only because Surveillance Video captured images of the van. In all, it made four stops in 45 minutes before arriving at the Police Station where paramedics were called to treat gray. While in the van, police say he was handcuffed, shackled, and not wearing a seat belt. Today captain eric kawalcyzk offered no explanation why this newly discovered stop had not been reported until now. It would be inappropriate for to us further comment on the status of the investigation. It is now in the hands of the states attorney. Reporter that prosecutor is marilyn mosby. Her office must now decide how gray suffered a severed spine and whether there was police misconduct. Investigators took Surveillance Video from this Convenience Store owned by poljung hwang. He told us Police Stopped by two weeks ago to look at his surveillance cameras. Reporter todays revelation was another surprise to a city that is already on edge. We spoke with baltimore resident tay chase. I think this is ridiculous. How you make a keep constantly stopping when you have somebody in pain telling you he needs medical attention, but they ignoring that. Reporter 42 Convenience Store was looted on monday and when the owner came back he realized the surveillance equipment had been stolen and the critical piece of of evident, the tape was missing perhaps in the hands of rioters. Pelley six officers involved in grays arrest remain suspended. Todays baltimores mayor made this promise. If with the nation watching three black women at three Different Levels cant get justice and healing for this community, you tell me where were going to get it in our country. Pelley mayor stephanie rawlingsblake was talking about herself, u. S. Attorney general loretta lynch, and the prosecutor Baltimore States attorney, marilyn mosby. All of this began more than two weeks ago when freddie gray ran away from two officers on patrol. They caught him and allegedly found an illegal switch blade. We asked chip reid to remind us of how a minor offense became a major controversy. Reporter on april 20, during the Baltimore Police departments First Press Conference on the death of freddie gray, commissioner Anthony Batts made a promise were being as transparent as we possibly can. We will be open. We will answer questions. We will bring this information to the public. Reporter at that same press conference, Deputy Police commissioner Jerry Rodriguez said this i know when mr. Gray was placed inside that van, he was able to talk. He was upset and when mr. Gray was taken out of that van he could not talk and he could not breathe. Reporter the implications was that the spinal injury occurred in the van, but four days later, Deputy Commissioner kevin davis turned the focus back to the scene of the arrest. And thats where the apprehension of freddie gray occurred. And, quite frankly, thats exactly where freddie gray should have received medical attention. And he did not. Reporter another source of confusion involves an additional prisoner in the van. What the prisoner has told us is that the second prisoner that was picked up, is that he didnt see any harm done to freddie at all. What he has said is that he heard freddie thrashing about. Reporter that other prisoner was dante allen, who told cbs station wjz today that he heard more than just grays movements. When we got to the station, all i hear is them, like, we got we gave him a run for his money. Thats what they say, right . Reporter who said, that the police . Yes. Reporter the police deny gray was given what is known here as a wild ride, intended to frighten or even injure prisoners but batts admitted mistakes were made. We know he was not buckled in the transportation wagon, as he should have been. No excuses for that, period. Reporter commissioner batts has admitted that hes withheld information in his public statements because he doesnt want to jeopardize any potential prosecutions in the death of freddie gray, and, scott, that tap dancing, as he has called it, could be at least one source of all the confusion. Pelley chip reid reporting for us in baltimore. Chip, thanks very much. In another case today, a veteran cop cried as he recalled the Movie Theater massacre in aurora, colorado defendant james holmes is on trial for murdering 12 people and wounding 70 others. He has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. Mark strassmann is following the case. Reporter officer Justin Grizzle was one of the first cops to step into the carnage of theater 9. Bodies lay everywhere. He went from one to the next looking for survivors. Of course, the one that ill always remember is the little girl. Reporter sixyearold veronica mosersullivan lay lifeless on the floor. Had to step over her because i knew she was gone. And continue on. Which is absolutely the hardest thing i had to do, but going back on my training, i had to save the ones that i knew i could try to save. People are running out of the theater and are shot. Reporter grizzles cruiser became a makeshift ambulance. A young man rode up front, a bandaged wrapped around his head wound, in the backseat, another cop held the mans girlfriend. Ashley moser was critically wounded and unconscious, shot in the face and chest. I could hear her breathe and then stop breathing and we would both yell at her and try to keep her going. The male that was sitting next to me kept saying he needs to go back, i need to go back. I need to go back. He said, i need to get my daughter. My daughters still there. My daughters still there. Thats when it hit me that the little girl that i walked over is probably theirs. Reporter ashley moser, the little girls mother survived but is paralyzed from the waist down. Scott, as officer grizzle told that familys story on the stand, jurors were passing around a box of kleenex. Pelley Mark Strassmann for us tonight, mark, thanks. They have made their bed, and theyre going to have to lie in it, and it starts today. Reporter today it was clear the harsh sentence had weighed heavily on him. When a judge goes home and he keeps thinking over and over that somethings wrong something is usually wrong. Anyway, i want to modify the sentence. We, the jury, find the defendant guilty. Reporter earlier this month, a total of 11 former atlanta educators were convicted of racketeering for conspiring to inflate scores on standardized tests. In some cases, prosecutors say educators changed wrong answers to correct ones. The original sevenyear prison sentences came after the three refused to admit guilt.
