Glor and, some hospitals turned them away. Six months later, an inspiring update on baby ivy. There really arent any words to describe how thankful we are that we have her. Glor good evening. Im jeff glor. And this is our western edition. Well begin tonight with a whistleblower at the white house. A longtime employee of the White House Personnel Security Office claims 25 people denied clearances because of disqualifying issues in their backgrounds were granted access anyway. The head of a Congressional Committee sent a letter asking why some aides were given security clearances. The group in question includes the president s daughter and soninlaw. Major garrett is at the white house with more. Reporter the memo ou Oversight Committee chairman Elijah Cummings said a white house whistleblower named Tricia Newbold complained that 25 officials were granted security clearances despite disqualifying issues raised by herself and other career officials. In an interview with Committee Staff nine days ago, newbold said she came forward because she could not sit back knowing that the issues that we have could impact National Security. Newbold said three unnamed senior white house officials, two of whom still work there, drew objections due to concerns about potential foreign influence, conflict of interest, or business entanglements. The house Oversight Committee has asked the white house for security clearancerelated documents for ivanka trump, son inlaw and white house adviser jared kushner, and National Security adviser john bolton. Newbold lives near baltimore and did not respond to our request for comment. I am convinced that she simply wants government to run the way government is supposed to run. Reporter President Trump does have the authority to grant security clearances regardless of staff objections or warnings. Kushner faced delays in his security clearance approval before the president pushed it through, according to the new york times. But the president denied involvement. I was never involved with the security. I know that there was issues back and forth about security for numerous people, actually. But i dont want to get involved in that stuff. Reporter jim jordan, the ranking republican on the house Oversight Committee, accused the chairman, chairman cummings, of cherry picking newbolds testimony. About all this, the white house had no comment. Glor major, also tonight democrats are expected to take action this week regarding the mueller report. What do we know right now . Reporter the House Judiciary Committee intends to vote wednesday to subpoena the full report and all of its underlying evidence. Attorney general william barr has pledged to provide a redacted version of that report by midapril. Barr has said Justice Department rules prohibit the public release of certain information like that dealing with ongoing investigations. Democrats, though, jeff, point out in rare instances, those rules have been waived, most recently during the investigation into Hillary Clintons private email server. Glor major garrett, thank you very much. Former Vice President joe biden is facing new trouble tonight, and he has not even formally announced hes running for president. A second woman claims biden touched her inappropriately at a political event. Heres ed okeefe. All i have is my truth. And my truth is that it is patterned behavior. Former congressional aide amy reporter former congressional aide amy lappos told the Hartford Courant today biden reached for her face and rubbed noses with her during a fundraiser in greenwich, connecticut, in 2009. Lappos told cbs news in a statement, biden should not run for president. Critical time in our party, the Democratic Party if deciding who is going to represent us in 2020. And i know for sure that i do not want a man that does not respect women. On reporter on friday, former nevada assemblywoman lucy flores recalled a 2014 Campaign Event where biden approached her from behind, smelled her hair, and kissed her head. This isnt new. Im not bringing up something that people have not been aware of. Reporter biden has a tendency to be affectionate with women while on the campaign trail. Flores says bidens behavior wasnt sexual, but should be a factor in the democratic primary. And yet, were he to win the nomination and square off against President Trump. Thats not even a question. Of course i would support biden. Reporter in a statement, biden said over the years, i have offered countless hand shakes, hugs, expressions of affection, support and comfort, and not once, never did i believe i have acted inappropriately. We have arrived at an important time when women feel they can, and should, relate their experiences, and men should pay attention. And i will. Several women defended biden today, including stephanie carter, seen here at the swearing in of her husband, former secretary of defense ash carter. She says that moment has been misinterpreted, that he was helping someone get through a big day, for which i will always be grateful. At a forum for alreadyannounced candidates today in washington, some of them said it will be up to biden to decide whether to run and to voters to judge his behavior. People in the crowd at that president ial forum today were split on the accusations against biden. Some saying it wasnt a factor, some saying it should be. One guy told me, he hadnt heard anything about it. If he runs, biden is expected to join the president ial race later this month, at the earliest. Jeff . Glor okay. Ed okeefe, thank you. Has been forced to release thousands of Asylum Seekers into the u. S. , while others have been sent to mexico to await their asylum hearing. President trump slashed the 700 million in u. S. Aid to guatemala, el salvador, and honduras, blaming them for not doing enough to stop the flow of migrants, a move critics say could only make the problem worse. But its the president s threat of shutting down the border that has others here concerned. We went to an Industrial Park in santa teresa, new mexico, to see businesses that rely on cross border trade. It would cause financial hardship, and you would put a lot of people out of work. And thats americans, not mexicans. Reporter jerry pachecho, the president of the border industrial association, says the impacts will have a ripple effect. You hear that there is a threat to shut down the border, and you think what . It would be devastating, and not just here. The supply chain is all the way back to the midwest, our auto industry, our ag. Industry would be affected immediately. Reporter a border shutdown could threaten the more than 611 billion in yearly cross border trade and impact around five million jobs, according to the u. S. Chamber of commerce. And, thousands of people cross this bridge every day in either direction to go to work or school.
