( cheers ) >> grand slam for david bote! and the cubs have won the ball game! can you believe it? >> what a moment. >> glor: good evening, i'm jeff glor. this is our western edition. we'll begin tonight with the unyielding rain in parts of the country. some people are seeing their homes flooded for the third time in a month. more than 20 million face flood threats this evening. heavy rain has already triggered flash flood warnings in parts of new jersey, pennsylvania, and maryland. rescue crews today answered several calls for help, including this one to help save a 12-year-old boy outside philadelphia. in benton, pennsylvania, people went to high ground after a swollen creek spilled its banks and ripped through town. don dahler is about 60 miles south of there. >> reporter: residents of pennsylvania were taken by surprise by how fast the water rose today, flooding homes, floating cars, and buckling roads. this dramatic rescue was caught on tape, a 12-year-old trapped 30 a pile of branches in this stream in charleston township, pennsylvania, about 30 miles west of philadelphia. in central pennsylvania, rescue crews fielded calls for help by boat. >> we made our way out here with our boats, because they had some areas they couldn't access anymore with their heavy brush trucks. >> oh, my god. >> reporter: parts of new jersey saw extreme flooding over the weekend. these cars floated away from a italership that sits near a river in little falls, about 20 miles west of new york city. >> oh my god! >> reporter: and just east of little falls, police had to rescue a bride from a cartop in pagoda, when she and the groom were stranded on their wedding day. back in pennsylvania, the governor says emergency management agencies are working to ensure residents are safely evacuated, and get help, but some people are losing patience. >> i hope the governor sees that we need help. >> reporter: earlier today, millcreek here at port carbon, pennsylvania actually reached the first floor of that house, and the very real fear is now ath more rain in the forecast, t howorst might not be over. jeff? >> glor: pretty jarring video nsom pennsylvania. don dahler, thank you. the people responsible for acurity at the seattle-tacoma airport got together today to talk about the breech in security over the weekend, and how to prevent it from happening again. to airline employee easily stole okcommercial aircraft and took it on a deadly flight. here's jamie yuccas. >> reporter: for more than an hour, this stolen plane soared e d flipped in the skies above seattle. and controllers on the ground erd no idea who they were dealing with, a possible terrorist, or this. rd >> reporter: richard russell worked for horizon air as a baggage and cargo handler at sea-tac, which has some of the nation's most stringent security procedures for ground personnel. authorities are still at a loss to explain why he suddenly seized control of an empty 76- urat commuter plane. he used a tow tractor to turn hee turboprop aircraft 180 itgrees toward the runway, then climbed aboard without pilot training, he got behind the controls and positioned the plane for an unauthorized take- off. or >> reporter: last year, congress stssed a law mandating tougher screening standards for all airport employees. ground workers in seattle ordergo criminal background imecks, go through metal e tectors, have their bags screened, and their fingerprints scanned to verify their identity, but there are no y,ychological screenings. today, cbs news transportation correspondent, kris van cleave, spoke with t.s.a. administrator david pekoske. .an you screen for things like mental health in an effective s y? >> with regard to mental health, i mean, we do do screenings in terms of background checking for all airport workers. one of the things that we emphasize, "if you see something, say something," also r plies for insider threats. >> reporter: people are calling this a one-in-a-million chance that this would happen. did you ever planned for something like this? >> i've asked the question point blank, "have we ever seen this experience?" erthink this is really truly a one-in-a-million experience. that doesn't mean we can't learn from it. >> reporter: we learned today that security has been stepped up here at the airport since the incident took place. jeff, the black boxes were also recovered. they should show if the plane stalled, or if it was deliberately put into the ground. >> glor: still hard to believe that happened. jamie yuccas, thank you. we're going to move now to the public feud between the president and a former white house adviser, whose paths first crossed when she was a sentestant on his television program. it escalated today with new e dio recordings and tweets. major garrett is at the white house. >> reporter: in her new book, former white house aid omarosa manigault-newman reveals she recorded white house conversations, including this one with president trump in december. >> reporter: over the weekend, omarosa also released a tape of a meeting in a situation room where chief of staff john kelly fired her. >> it's come to my attention omer the last few months that iere's been some pretty, in my opinion, significant integrity issues. >> reporter: in her white house ntmmunications job, omarosa had direct access to the president, owing to a friendship forged with mr. trump on his hit tv show "the apprentice." >> you know, i've always been a >>g omarosa fan, but omarosa, you're fired. escast a his fmerdeurday, the protege. >> low-life. >>e's a low-life. >> reporter: and continued on twitter today, calling omarosa "wacky" and "vicious, but not smart." but this is what he said in mid- december, just after omarosa left the white house. >> i like omarosa. omarosa's a good person. >> reporter: in her book "unhinged," published by a division of cbs, omarosa claims mr. trump is a habitual liar, unfit for office, and racist. but that last claim contradicts what she said shortly after being fired. >> do you think this president is racist? >> absolutely not. i would never sit, nor work, for nmeone who i believe to be a incist. >> reporter: during their taped conversation, chief of staff d.lly said there were "some serious legal issues that have been violated." whatever those were, omarosa could face other legal actions for secretly recording white house conversations. jeff? >> glor: okay, major garrett, thank you very much. omarosa manigault-newman will be interviewed tomorrow on "cbs this morning." the president today celebrated the firing of an f.b.i. agent who sent anti-trump text messages during the 2016 election campaign. paula reid has more on this. >> reporter: peter strzok was fired more than a year after he was removed as a top investigator from the russia opobe for sending text messages disparaging of then-candidate donald trump. strzok's attorney says he was dismissed on friday even though ibe f.b.i.'s office of professional responsibility had recommended a demotion and a 60- day suspension. strzok has denied that his text messages, including one that said, "we'll stop it," about mr. trump's election as president, influenced the russia investigation. >> not once in my 26 years of defending our nation did my personal opinions impact any tmficial action i took. >> reporter: a department of tostice inspector general's report released in june backed up that claim, but also said the texts were evidence of a "biased state of mind." the president reacted to werzok's firing by tweeting, "finally." strzok himself set up a twitter scount today, writing he was "deeply saddened by this decision." >> i am specifically directing you to answer the question in response to-- >> reporter: strzok was the r:bject of a contentious hearing last month, as republicans questioned his impartiality. >> i don't appreciate what was originally said being changed. >> i don't give a damn what you appreciate, agent strzok. >> reporter: strzok also played a lead role in the investigation into hillary clinton's use of a private e-mail server. he's a 21-year veteran of the f.b.i., but could now lose his pension. jeff? >> glor: all right, paula reid, thank you very much. in florida today, a manslaughter charge has followed a closely ootched shooting. this began with a dispute over a parking spot. the sheriff initially refused to arrest the shooter, saying he was protected by stand-your- boound laws. more on this now from manuel r:jorquez. >> reporter: today's arrest of eechael drejka was what 28-year- old markeis mcglockton's family had been demanding for weeks. >> i was happy. ne reporter: michael mcglockton is his father. >> it was something that should have been done three weeks ago, but i'm just finally glad that it happened. >> reporter: the shooting happened last month. surveillance video shows mcglockton pushing drejka to the ground, after drejka confronted , glockton's girlfriend, brittany jacobs, over a handicapped parking space. that's when drejka pulled out a gun. according to the charging document, mcglockton immediately backed up when he saw the weapon and turned towards the store. as he turned away from michael drejka, michael drejka fires one shot. mcglockton was hit in the chest and ran into the store, collapsing in front of his five- year-old son. av did not have a weapon. the pinellas county sheriff deitially said the shooting was justified as self-defense due to florida's stand your ground law. michele rayner, a family attorney, calls drejka, "a cold- blooded murderer." how do you account for the sheriff's initial response to this, and what the state attorney is now saying? >> i can't speculate on what the sheriff's state of mind is. the state attorneys who do this day in and day out, who try these kind of cases, and who applied the law to the facts, nocided that stand your ground fos not applicable. >> reporter: there is a memorial for mcglockton here at the parking spot. ur attempts to reach michael drejka after the shooting have gone unanswered. he could be arraigned tomorrow ca a manslaughter charge that carries a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison. jeff? >> glor: manuel bojorquez s.night on the scene of where this happened. manny, thanks. there are new details tonight about the fate of one of the children found at a new mexico desert compound raided by police ten days ago. this came today at a court hearing for five adults arrested on 11 counts of child abuse. mark strassmann is there. >> this is an extraordinary case. >> reporter: at the bond hearing for siraj ibn wahhaj and four others, prosecutors presented a disturbing update about his son, three-year-old abdul-ghani, whose body was found buried on this apocalyptic-looking compound authorities raided last week. ndher children found there told stvestigators the boy died during a religious ritual. >> some of the children have stated that these rituals were intended to cast out demonic s irits from abdul-ghani's body. all five defendants knew about these rituals. w reporter: the children also said they were instructed how to use firearms and how to clear rooms, in case police came to the compound. d e child was armed when police arrived. this was their ramshackle home, a trailer buried almost to the roof in the desert. in all this filth and behind this six-foot wall of tires, authorities also found shell casings, gun manuals, and books noitten in arabic. >> you couldn't pay me enough money to spend one night in here. >> reporter: jason and tanya badger own the land where the itme sat. he says he told authorities back in april a missing boy was living on his property. >> i mean, what other probable tause could you possibly need? ( laughs ) i told you, i'm pretty stubborn. so i was like, oh, let me have a floor-length gown. >> reporter: she and frank took the vows they had long been living, including the one about in sickness and in health. >> i will. >> you better.
