they moved all of us back, all of us reporters, and we're waiting for more information right now. i did speak with a neighbor who says the man who lived in the allows is a retired firefighter from san francisco. and that he lives there with his girlfriend. but again, we don't know whether either of them could be the body that was found inside of this house. we're told that we are going to be getting more information here within the next hour and we'll bring it to you. right now live in castro valley, anne makovec, cbs 5. we're just learning that three people have been arrested in the deadly homicide-arson at a bar in denver. authorities say the motive was robbery. the five bodies including the bar's owner were found after firefighters put out the early- morning fire yesterday. officers believe the victims were killed before the fire started. it is 6:01. a teenager is missing in petaluma after she was last seen with a man nearly twice her age. 15-year-old ruby cruz mendoza was spotted around 5:30 yesterday evening climbing into a tan or silver two-door car. she was traveling with this man, hilario carmona. investigators believe they might be in a relationship together. with a bright flash and supersonic boom the bay area got a front row seat to a rare show provided by the cosmos. cbs 5 reporter cate caugiran joins us what a dazzling sight for people who got to see it. >> reporter: for us who were asleep, unfortunately, we missed it. but i have two bits of good news for you. one if you live in martinez experts say you may find fragments of the meteor in the area this morning and two the show isn't over yet. if you missed it like the rest of the morning crew, you can see it now. experts at chabot say this meteor you're look at courtesy. san jose lick observatory say it was the size of a car before hitting the earth traveling at speeds up to 25,000 miles an hour braking the sound barrier as it entered our atmosphere. that's when several people heard that boom. it was a sonic boom. here's a picture from a viewer in santa cruz. the meteor was actually only visible for about five seconds. but you can see it cross the bay area even as far as sacramento. >> i seen a huge rock fly over us and what's that? >> looked like a movie. it was so big you looked like you could see the flames on it. >> reporter: sky gazers immediately took to twitter: >> reporter: the orionid meteor shower will come over the bay area in weekend and there will be free showings at the chabot space center. if you did catch it last night, we want to see your moonlit night. >> gorgeous. >> too bad i wasn't outside. >> what were we doing? >> sleeping! >> the peak overnight orionid meteor shower is saturday night into sunday although we'll have clouds. we are passing through the dust of the halley's comedy causing the orionid meteor shower traveling 148,000 miles per hour screaming across the atmosphere. it's beautiful across to the coastline. temperatures all over the map mid-60s at the coast but now in the mid-40s as you look towards santa rosa and 53 degrees in san jose. this afternoon, enjoying a beautiful day again all the way to the coastline average temperatures usually in the 70s will be well above the average today. as hot as 91 degrees in livermore, 80 degrees in san francisco. and in san jose, checking in about 85 degrees. enjoy it. we could see some rain coming up in the next few days. more on that in a few minutes. let's check the roads with elizabeth. >> towards the san mateo bridge toll plaza there is a traffic alert in effect behind the pay gates. there was an accident a solo car crash, car overturned on its roof. right now three lanes are blocked so chp issued that traffic alert. they may reopen some lanes around 6:20. that's the latest word from chp. it's stacking up towards industrial so you may want to consider the dumbarton bridge in the meantime. this is our other hotspot along the peninsula in menlo park. northbound 101 right before willow road. several cars involved. people hurt. three even possibly four lanes blocked in that area so that's you're seeing those really super slow speeds approaching the accident scene. so again, chp we just got off the phone telling us 6:45 is the estimated time of opening with this accident. that's going to take a little longer to clear. in the meantime it's already slow so you will want to consider using 280 instead. oakland is thinking of contracting with outside law enforcement agencies to increase presence on city streets. city officials are considering paying for sheriff's deputies and highway patrol officers to work in oakland for several months. after that cadets should finish their training at the police academy. crime in the city is up this year and there are about 200 fewer officers than there were 4 years ago. oakland police hope some surveillance video will help solve a murder case from almost a year ago. charles butler was killed the morning of december 22, 2011, after bumping the fender of another car in the city's north side. the video shows two suspects arguing with butler, who is seen in the white hoodie there, in a convenience store. investigators say the two men later followed butler and shot him a few blocks away. >> not only are they murderers, they are thieves. they stole my brother's future. i mean, he was on his way to doing good things. >> police hope to hear from anyone who can help identify those two suspects. a speedy thief got away with cash after a daring midday robbery. he jumped over-the-counter towards the teller and grabbed an unknown amount of money from the drawer. at least one witness said the suspect had a gun. he was last running eastbound on ventura avenue. a pediatrician charged with 18 drug-related felonies is set to appear in a san jose courtroom today. dr. marvin bonham is accused of trading prescription drugs like oxycontin for cash and methamphetamine. prosecutors say he wrote prescriptions for people with criminal drug histories until last week bonham worked as a medical director of the valley health plan. a livermore man is the first person in alameda county to be treated for west nile virus this year. county officials say he first reported symptoms in late september and is currently recovering. this brings the total number of cases in california to 277. later this morning, bay area students will drop and cover as part of the "great california shake-out." the statewide drill teaches the proper techniques to prevent injuries during the next big quake. emergency crews will also practice their disaster response plans. 6:08. a suspected terrorist is in custody accused of plotting to blow up the federal reserve building in new york city. kwauzi nafis is a native of bangladesh. he was arrested yesterday morning after a sting operation. federal investigators say he parked a van that was filled with what he believed were explosives outside the building. then tried to detonate it with a cell phone. the bomb though wasn't real because his associates were actually undercoverr injuries. >> he was inspired to do a terrorist act motivated by al qaeda. we see this threat as being with us for a long time to come. >> nafis only 21 didn't enter a plea during a previous court appearance in brooklyn yesterday afternoon. president obama and mitt romney will make an appearance athe alfred e. smith memorial foundation dinner for needy children. the two candidates campaigned in battleground states yesterday. the president criticized romney's comment in the previous night debate. he will need binders full of women to find qualified females for cabinett positions. positions. why is it there are 3.6 million >> let's do that. liz, take it away. >> i don't know if you want to check the roads. we have two traffic alerts, not looking good especially at the san mateo bridge. there is a bad accident on the approach to the toll plaza. so three lanes are blocked. again, a car on its roof. when we had talked to chp earlier they had hoped to reopen lanes, actually in the next five minutes or so. so we'll let you know if that happens. it's stacking up behind the pay gates of the san mateo bridge backed up towards industrial and growing. good news on the span as you can see both directions looking good. but let's go to our maps. we can show you the line of traffic looks good on southbound 880 if you are continuing down towards highway 84. so the dumbarton bridge may be a good alternate. this is our second traffic alert of the morning. 6:45 that's when chp homes to reopen lanes northbound 101 at willow road so this is a multicar injury crash. three lanes are blocked. if you are heading through menlo park 101 is not going to be a great option. you may want to use 280 instead. it's free and clear along the peninsula. again 6:45 when they hope to reopen some languages. so the evening commute home could be an interesting one if you are passing candlestick. we have the big 49ers game against seattle seahawks. 5:20. so this is right during the middle of the evening commute. and this is a live look right now if you are passing candlestick. it actually looks good towards sfo towards the airport. heads up this evening. mass transit, bart on time systemwide. the metering lights are on early on the bay bridge because of the traffic alert over at the san mateo bridge, i thin of the people may be looking for alternates, i think. the bay bridge is good but it's stacking up behind the pay gates here, as well. it's jammed beyond the first overcrossing. that's a check of your "timesaver traffic." here's lawrence with weather. >> beach day part 2 plenty of sunshine all the way to the coastline today. it looks like one of those great starts to the day, too. clear skies out there right now. temperatures very mild out toward the coast. in the mid-60s in some spots. a little cool though as you make your way into the north bay valleys, some of the temperatures dipping into the 40s and the 50s. this afternoon, though, we are basking in sunshine. some 80s and low 90s inland but boy, out at the coast once again maybe some mid-70s towards some of the beaches today and 80s inside the bay. high pressure holding on for one last day. then you have the trough that's going to dig into the ridge and that will help bring us more of a sea breeze in the coming days so the temperatures are going to cool down maybe fog returns as early as tonight and tomorrow. around the state expect 80s and 90s into the central valley beautiful in the high country lots of sunshine. about 70 degrees in lake tahoe and about 79 into monterey bay. around our bay looking good. temperatures up in the 80s in many of the south bay locations. 70s right out at the coastline. about 76 in pacifica. east bay numbers up in the 80s and low 90s. and inside the bay we'll find about 84 degrees in oakland, 80 in san francisco, and 87 in santa rosa. next couple of days big changes, we start to cool down tomorrow, more cooling below normal over the weekend and then can you believe it? what scientists are saying about this late night light show. >> and a suspicious death in castro valley in a fire there. we are just getting an update from sheriff's deputies. we'll have a live report. more details coming your way. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, >> your realtime captioner: linda marie macdonald good morning, everyone. thursday, october 18. i'm frank mallicoat. >> i'm michelle griego. time now 6:30. we're following breaking news in alameda county. fire investigators are on the scene of a house fire where a body was found. the criminal investigation has now begun. >> cbs 5's anne makovec joins us now from castro valley where the sheriff's department just gave you some new details, anne. >> reporter: we know we have a suspicious fire at the home here behind me. that happened at about midnight and it's a suspicious death investigation going on as we speak. in fact, sheriff's deputies are trying to get a search warrant right now so they can continue their investigation inside of the house. and we are told the body is still inside the house, as well. so this all started with a fire just after midnight. it was a small fire, one alarm. in fact, we can't even see any fire damage on the outside of the house. when firefighters got here, they found a person and that person had died. we don't know how that person died if that person had died before the fire or if tha
