for us in sunnyvale. san jose firefighters say a suspicious fire in a garage last night may be linked to a marijuana grow operation. it was reported just before 9:00 on old piedmont road. nobody was hurt. firefighters say it's possibly illegal wiring that may have sparked the fire. now on to the presidential race. super tuesday was pretty good for mitt romney. but it was not super enough to make him the nominee. tyler suiters has more on the primary season's biggest night and joins us from washington, d.c. >> reporter: elizabeth and frank, good morning. you put i well, a good day for romney, won the most states and delegates but for all the delegates victory on super tuesday is in the eye of the beholder. mitt romney squeaked out a victory in ohio fighting a tough battle with rick santorum taking the swing state. >> it looks good. we are counting down the days until november. it looks better. >> reporter: with super tuesday victories in five other states, he is already talking like the gop nominee. >> as president, i will get our economy back on track and get our citizens back to work. everyone unlike president obama, i have the experience to deliver on that promise. >> reporter: evangelical voters helped rick santorum finish on top in tennessee and oklahoma. he also put north dakota in his win column. >> we have won in the west, midwest and the south and we're ready to win across this country. >> reporter: the candidates will divide up the super tuesday delegates. they are chasing the magic number to clinch the nomination 1144. mitt romney leads. santorum's camp wants to frame this as a two-man contest with romney saying conservatives would rally behind the former senator if newt gingrich quit. but last night gingrich easily won georgia the state he represented in congress. the former speaker says he is not dropping out. >> i am the tortoise. i just take one step at a time. >> reporter: ron paul is slowly collecting delegates in caucus states. >> we are on the right track so make sure they hear our message all the way to d.c. >> reporter: paul still hasn't pulled off a victory but says he is going all the way to the convention. the next big test for these candidates comes saturday. the kansas caucus. frank and elizabeth, it looks like this is a state where rick santorum could do especially well. there is a strong conservative and evangelical base there. very similar to the state of oklahoma which he won just yesterday. >> which is right next door by the way. it's all about the delegate, 1144. romney is leading by how much? >> a considerable margin. the most important number to count on is the fact that he has one-third of the delegates he would need to claim this nomination. and another way to put it in perspective, he has more than twice as many as second place rick santorum. so he is in very good shape. still just a candidate and not the nominee. but he is extending his lead and increasing his strength, as well. and an interesting note. rick santorum in terms of the delegate count is now closer to third place newt gingrich than first place mitt romney. >> this is obviously at least a psychological boost for rick santorum. what do you think is going to be the biggest lasting impact of the super tuesday result? >> reporter: well, it's very similar to where we were when we started voting yesterday to be honest. lasting impact? we'll see who can capture the momentum and keep it moving. as we said, mitt romney had the most states and a victory in the ballot ground state of -- battleground state of ohio but that's a victory for rick santorum rick santorum made it so close a 1% victory for governor romney in ohio, three victories for rick santorum. it looks like he will take kansas on saturday then alabama and mississippi are ahead on tuesday. both potentially strong states for senator santorum. >> but if santorum took ohio by about 1% we would be singing a different tune today to be sure. tyler suiters. >> reporter: fair to say. >> tyler suiters thanks so much for your live report. >> cbs 5 political analyst joe tuman will join us onset at 6:45 and more results on cbssf.com. oakland has a new pitch to keep the sports teams where they are. jean quan will announce plans to award a contract to redevelop the coliseum arena complex. the city council voted unanimously to spend $.5 million in an effort to keep their teams right in the city of oakland. we have more on the plans coming up with a live report at 6:30. how about some weather? and no arrests following a double homicide in the sunnyvale home. officers found two people shot on the 800 block of nectarine avenue last night. police interviewed one person in connection with that shooting. republican presidential hopeful mitt romney has reason to feel good. he won six of the ten states that held super tuesday contests. rick santorum won three and newt gingrich took his home state of georgia. ron paul's best showings were three second place finishes. san jose voters will decide in june whether to reform the city's pension system. the city council vote 8-3 to put a modified plan on the ballot. all right. we are looking at less wind around the bay area for today. the temperatures going to start to warm up, still breezy in spots. if you are heading outside this morning, it looks like skies mostly clear all the way to the coastline though. but the winds kicking up in some spots still 20 to 30 miles an hour breezes but looks like toward the afternoon less wind and more sunshine on the way not as cold warmer days ahead much warmer as high pressure builds in. this ridge going to likely bring with it a bit of an offshore wind the next couple of days and that means we'll likely see 70s in some of the valleys. today looking at 64 degrees in sacramento. 59 degrees in fresno. 58 monterey bay. san francisco bay looking good with temperatures in the mid- 60s in towards san jose. 64 milpitas. 64 san mateo. east bay temperatures mid-60s in most spots under sunny skies. a little cooler approaching the coastline there mainly into the 50s at the beaches today but i think as we get into tomorrow those offshore winds going to warm up everywhere. in fact 70s in some of the valleys, beautiful weather through thursday and friday. cooling down over the weekend with a sea breeze. then clouds gather on sunday getting unsettled sunday night and through monday and tuesday. all right. let's check on the roads with gianna. >> thank you, lawrence. the good news is not a lot of accidents to report this morning but we are dealing with some windy conditions as you work your way especially across the dumbarton bridge. here's a live look at the dumbarton bridge where traffic is free-flowing in both directions. but that wind advisory is still in effect. early-morning roadwork this morning as well on the dumbarton bridge and that happens pretty often overnight so heads up. on the maps, to avoid these windy bridges, you can always use mass transit. everything is on time for bart, ace, muni, caltrain and your ferries this morning. elsewhere, things along 880 looking good this morning. no major delays here. just some extra volume as you work your way southbound towards hayward. cameras are shaking around so again windy conditions continue throughout the bay. wind advisory for the richmond/san rafael bridge, as well. but no major delays as you work your way both directions along 101 through marin county. southbound towards the golden gate bridge looks good. san mateo bridge, wind advisory still in effect for here, as well. that caltrans sign still lit this morning. 13 minutes between 880 and 101. 101 looking good though as you work your way through the peninsula. no delays towards sfo right now. metering lights turned on at the bay bridge toll plaza. traffic backed up through there past the 880 overpass 19 minutes on the eastshore freeway towards the bay bridge. other than that, fairly quiet out across the upper deck into san francisco. but again that wind advisory is in effect for the bay bridge so use caution through this this morning. other bridges affected antioch bridge, benicia bridge and the richmond/san rafael bridge this morning. antioch seeing some slight delays as you work your way westbound but that's typical this time of the morning. and we still have this accident all morning long over to the right shoulder westbound 580 right at airway not blocking lanes but caused a bit of a backup. slow and go out of the altamont pass. you will need 27 to 30 minutes from the altamont pass to the dublin interchange. remember kcbs once you do hit the roads. they're our radio partners. and you can find them at 740-am and 106.9-fm. that's a look at your morning drive. back to you. >> you are busy. >> surprisingly. >> thank you. a new traffic lane that just opened in the east bay last year might be ripped up. caltrans spent $125 million to at lanes to the eastbound interstate 580 between pleasanton ton and livermore but the agency now may remove the plane to run a bart line down the middle of the freeway to connect with livermore. other possibilities include running the bart tracks on the side of the freeway at 580 or go underground. those options would allow the carpool lane to remain. it is under discussion.
