They did do the lane changes just a little while ago and you can see, traffic is free flowing as you work your way in both directions through there. Caltrans just wrapped up some construction as you work your way westbound 80 between central and powell. All lanes open traffic clear towards the bay bridge toll plaza. Still a couple of hot spots in the south bay. We have southbound 280 connector to northbound 85. That will be closed until 6 00. Also eastbound 237 thats closed at least to southbound 880 that will be there until 6 00. Lets go back to Michelle Griego in new orleans. Its note all about football and partying in new orleans. Nope. A couple of Santa Clara Police officers are actually making their way into town to learn a Little Something from the department here. Its going to be the new home to the 49ers and once this stadium opens its doors to fans, crowd control will be a new issue for santa clara pd to tackle. So the department is keeping its eye on the future not just with the 9ers move but bringing a super bowl here in 2016. But before even that can happen, the city needs to prove that it can handle a massive event like that. And santa clara neighbors agree this is a good move for their Police Department. Depending on the culture or, you know, the rivalry it can get rowdy. Checking the culture of whats going on inside the crowd, definitely keep fans and families safe and create a culture families want to come out to. Reporter two officers will be paid to go to the super bowl training session. A former police chief will go and paying his own way. Mardi gras is also going on in conjunction with the super bowl so the Police Department there is handling twice the crowd and from what we have been hearing they have been doing a good job. And you dont have to go very far to see some of the remnants and some of the buildings that are still down because of Hurricane Katrina and i know you took a little tour as well, didnt you . Yeah. We did. We took a tour around new orleans. A lot of people go to the French Quarter. They will go to Jackson Square, they will go to the popular tourist destinations. But we took a little stroll through uptown and when i say uptown, i mean up the river. And a lot of people there, they take pride in their community. When the Tourism Department does commercials, they normally show like the downtown French Quarter area. But they tend to leave out some of the more important neighborhoods that surround the city. You can walk two blocks that way and youll be like in a higher scale neighborhood and two blocks that way will be just a little bit of the ghetto. The demographics is wide. This area didnt flood during katrina. This is high ground. Its almost like the safest place in new orleans. People are souping it up as fast as they can so if you can find some old house for a cheap price it behooves you to snatch it and renovate it and Property Value is going to skyrocket. So its a vital part of the city, man. People dont really get to see it, and a lot of history, too. So this is another part of new orleans. Reporter it certainly has a lot of history. We were talking to him yesterday and he actually said since hurricane sandy, the value of his home has gone up threefold which is good. It means that this city and uptown is rebuilding. The Mission District today, its part of mayor lees effort to keep drinking from becoming a problem on super bowl sunday. Police chief greg suhr and the fire chief will join the mayor this afternoon visiting merchants in the mission to talk about cracking down on alcohol. 5 09. San Francisco Police are taking a new look at a cold case involving a child who disappeared 29 years ago. The renewed search sent officers to the haightashbury neighborhood. They are searching around a house on masonic avenue near page street there and cbs 5 reporter anne makovec is at the scene with what neighbors remember about the time when Kevin Collins went missing many years ago. Ann. Reporter anyone who is around the bay area or california remembers the Kevin Collins case and now it is all centered on the duplex here behind me. They found some bones there. Now, the preliminary Analysis Shows that they were animal bones. But police say that further analysis of the bones is necessary. Theyre not saying a whole lot else this morning. Kevin collins last seen about a block from here on the way home from basketball practice back in 84 on oak street. Witnesses say he was pushed into a car with two teenagers wearing mohawks. Police arent saying why they have renewed their search for kevin. But we know cadaver dogs did indicate that there were bones beneath the concrete floor of a garage in this duplex here on masonic and police said a man who lived in the house at the time did match the description of a man seen talking to ken. That person has sense died. We did speak with a neighbor though who knew the two men who lived here in 84. I dont know if they did. I dont know. But im just saying that they were investigated by the police since kevin was taken. They had the dog, a black dog, and they were taken to the to be questioned and they were let go. Reporter yes. Never charged in this case. Police also say the people who live in the house now are not suspects. Kevins mother lives in concord. When it companies it these potential false leads, new developments, she says that she is simply numb. She says, obviously, she would like closure in this case. The Senate Judiciary committee will hold a hearing on the issue and the witnesses include captain mark kelly husband of former congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords representing the other side Wayne Lapierre the executive Vice President for the National Rifle association. Congress is considering some new gun safety legislation that includes an assault weapons ban, limits on high capacity magazines, and universal background checks. So far, so good on the freeways just checked in with chp and no accidents or major incidents to report on the roads. In fact, heres a live look at conditions at the bay bridge toll plaza. Clear into San Francisco across the upper deck. No delays on the lower deck out of San Francisco. San mateo bridge you can see traffic flowing in both directions. Most of our volume is on the westbound side headed into foster city but overall, its been a nice ride. 14 minutes to go between 880 and 101. Jumping over to our maps right now traffic also not doing too bad through antioch. Typically we see delays around this time. Westbound 4 in the green, some slight delays on the eastbound side but no construction or incidents to report and speaking of roadwork, we have a couple of snags out there southbound 280 connector it 85. Thats still blocked until 6 00. Also, if you work your way in and around that area you will see slight delays on the southbound side of 280 an eastbound 237 connector to 880, that is still closed. That will be shut down at least until about 6 00 this morning. You can see the westbound connector traffic is cruising along with no problems right now. Well have a look at mass transit coming up.
