drew levinson. >> reporter: torrential winds and rain from tropical storm lee continued to batter mississippi and louisiana sunday. more than a foot has fallen and more is expected as lee shotguns and sloshes its way inland. >> it's coming up pretty fast right now. >> reporter: new orleans seems to be weathering lee as best they can. 6 years ago they were underwater because of levee breaks, thanks to hurricane katrina. the new levees, along with new giant pumps are holding. they are pushing water into the lake pontchartrain. there are none in the little town of la feet which is under several feet of water. they are failing in some places to hold back the floodwaters. >> the height of the by you is actually higher than what this is right here. >> reporter: the police chief told the new "eyewitness news" is brought to you by your northern california lexus dealer. visit your lexus dealer today. we'll hear from jim in just a minute. but a way ward penguin who washed ashore in new zealand is back in the wild tonight. happy feet needed a little push to get into the choppiant arctic ocean. he has been with penguin watchers, happy feet was found on the beach near wellington in june eating sand, which he had mistaken perhaps for snow. conservationists rescued him and sent him back to health. as promised. we all want to know what labor day is going to be like. >> penguin weather across the bay. it has been rather chilly. >> it has been. >> all summer long, rather chilly, we'll start the day like that again. dense low fogs and cloud, at that, a bit of drizzle. giving way to mostly sunny conditions around the bay much as it has the last few days. we'll look for 60s at the beach. upper 80, low 90 out across the interior, that as been our weekend weather pattern, i haven't seen any big changes, we'll hold that. for tomorrow as well, as we continue on the cool side of normal, here, through the holiday, and also we're still talking about the rip current advisories up toward the beaches here. it is beginning to settle down. we're looking at south swirl waves 3 to 5 feet, still a high risk of a rip current out there with large shore break taking place and the possibility of some sneaker waves. always an idea to keep an eye towards the waves out there as you don'ts want to turn your back to the surf with these kind of conditions prevailing as that southerly swell continues across california. as you saw earlier, it is mora factor to our south, but still, the bay area beaches experiencing some of that my swell as well. here is a look at the current temperatures outside. looking down in the low 80, out across the interior, a cool 73 in santa rosa, much warmer in san rafael here at this hour, mid-70s, to 60, as you move back towards the water we're looking at upper 50s to low 60s for the most part. we'll be pretty close to this tomorrow. these are our high, our current temperatures. we'll actually be a little warmer tomorrow than we are today. we looked at the low cloud cover, it's already moving back in this evening, we'll be becoming mostly cloudy through the night as you would expect. we'll look for the cloud to clear tomorrow and temperatures range from the mid-60s on the peninsula to the low 80s down in san jose and the east bay. a little lower there, possible below 90s again tomorrow. as we see, our pattern is experiencing a blocking pattern, due to all the activity taking place out of on the east coast you the to tropical storm lee and katia. this won't change much over the next couple days, we're going to continue cool, subtle fluctuations in this pattern through mid-week should bring slightly warmer temperatures in into the area here as, again, the on shore breeze will still be a factor across the region into, if not through, next weekend as well. central valley warming up into the mid-upper 90s, some showers over the high country, we'll look for our temperatures once again to be in the upper 80s, low 90s, the hot spots tomorrow, mid-to upper 70s, on the coast, cooling as you could come back to water as you would expect, looking for mid-60s in the city, still cool to the north bay, that bump showing up mid-week will give us some added sunshine and a couple degrees warmer to carry us into the end of the week. nothing dramatic, not a heat wave by any stretch of the imagination but a little bit warmer. >> all right. >> all right. >> the kids are in school. thanks. >> thanks. kim has got some crash video. you got to see this, it's really unbelievable. we're not talking about the giants game either, where cars go flying at the baltimore grand prix. a wreck you don't want to miss. and the d-backs lose their cool at at&t. but did they lose the game?
