The electrical issue blew out service on 24 cars. Over a year ago bart had a similar problem near North Concord and also between west oakland and the transbay 2. Power spikes hit trains knocking rail cars out of service. Berkeley police are not taking any chances, this time we report they are telling people leave your axes and shields at home. Reporter this is what it looked like the last time there was a protrump rally in berkeleys civic center park, a series of bloody brawls between conservativeses conservatives and liberals. I think they are preparing for the worst. Reporter a trump supporter was there march 4 when the protest turned violent. Hes convinced this time will be different, but admitted. Theres a few people out there that are definitely feeling that theyre coming here to do some kind of fight. Reporter Benjamin Lynch is organizing a counter protest and says his group of protesters will defend themselves. When they come down here with weapons and bats and knives to attack people that dont believe in what they believe, to bring their hate into our community, were not having that here. Reporter the city of berkeley released a long list of items banned from the rally, including baseball bats, poles, glass bottles, pepper spray, knives, razor blades and police are expecting this rally to be larger than the last one, fueled by a rise in tension at campus at uc berkeley. A member of the bcr told us the group has been targeted repeateddedly with graffiti with behead the bcr. We dont think they take it seriously. A settlement has been reached. The dean was accused of Sexual Harassment and it has been agreed to pay 50,000 to a charity and another 50,000 to pay the attorney fees. The former Law School Dean will resign voluntarily next year after taking a oneyear unpaid sabbatical. A south bay family is mourning a mother and daughter killed by a suspected drunk driver on their way home from church, happening late thursday night at Great America parkway near 101 in san jose. Skid marks on highway 101 show where the driver plowed into a car killing a 60yearold woman and a 92yearold woman. The driver lost control, said he was starting to commit to northbound Great America parkway and hit that raised median which caused the vehicle to go further out of control. The driver slammed the red Mercedes Benz head on into the subaru and under the arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Hes in the hospital with injuries. Two of the members of the victims family were in the car and hospitalized. A group of renter advocates are on a Hunger Strike in an effort to draw attention to renters facing eviction. Four members of the renters Rights Coalition are on liquid diets, wanting the city council to inability new tenant action. They often evict people without reasonable cause. What we find this year is the same type of lack of prioritizing for the housing crisis and so as part of the coalition we have decided to bring the housing crisis to the front, so to speak. The city council will take up the issues at the next meeting on tuesday. Speaking of san jose housing prices, the city has been ranked first in the nation for the mostcompetitive housing area. San francisco was number two after san jose, 66 of homes, and then oakland, with a close third, and the tight inventory keeps pushing prices up. The number of hopes for sale in san jose fell 25 from last year. That pushed the median home price, get this, in san jose, 957,000, and we were talking about it earlier and were both from answer r san jose from san jose. Its astonishing. They are loans we use as recruiting deal to get high call guyed people into the city and its a tool we use because we like to see the executives live in the city of sunnyvale. Reporter city records show a handful of managers of getting the loans, among of them, deanna, a 1. 1 million home loan and interest rate, less than a point, and the term was 45 years, on top of her 316,000 a year salary. They are receiving the loans at the rate the federal government gives loans. Reporter the loans have become a cloud over bitter contract negotiations between the city and the the employees association because workers have not had a raise in five years. Its a sour note with them. A lot of the members cant afford to live in the city of sunnyvale and commuting long distances. Distances. I leave about 3 30. Weve been getting a lot of complaints about surprise damage fees from rental car companies, and in one case, a woman wrongfully charged for smoking after she returned the car. Reporter she inspected the car before and after with a budget employee and neither found any problems. They closed me out and gave me a receipt, 94. 23en cents. And week later, her credit card declined due to a suspect hundred 50 charge from budget because employees smelled folk in her vehicle. It was a shock because if you know you dont showing in a car and it made my credit card go over the limit. They will have a hard time proving their case. It time it takes to make the case and defend any charges imposed on the renter. Reporter budgets smoking policy notes exemption like if the customer leaves before the inspection or the vehicle is returned before hours but that didnt apply to them. They went in the passenger side and i didnt hear them say anything about smoking. Reporter theres similar complaints online. After contesting it in person, a manager sent this saying the charges would stand and referenced the comments she made about a previous experience accusing her of a pattern of accusing vehicles poorly many. What recourse does the passenger have . [inaudible] reporter he says the Credit Card Company will investigate and without evidence will likely side with the renter. But the day before the interview she got a call from budget with an apology about the charge. He said it was an error, that it was meant for somebody else. Reporter budget did not responds to our with for comment but this case is a great reminder, whenever possible, use a credit card to pay for purchases like these so you have a recourse. Debit cards dont have the same protections. It goes without saying, you should inspect your vehicle with an employee before you leave the lot. Why is that important . Identity theft is a growing problem. About 400,000 victims was reported with identity theft. Its a growing problem. Make sure you clean up not only your real clutter in your house but also your digital clutter, like yore maims and your apps on your phone. Right. A let to remember. When it comes to digital Spring Cleaning theres some things you can do to protect your identity. Whats your advice . The big thing, make sure Antivirus Software is up to say and make sure your security settings in your phone is upto date. When the phone says to update, make sure you do that. Make sure you have strong passwords. Thats a really big thing, too, and think about going beyond passwords. Think about biometrics and a device key. Make sure you declutter your mobile life. Get rid of the apps youre not using. A lot of those will draw information, as well, so you have to be careful about that too. Just get rid of those apps. I think we have a graphic with bullet points as the main things that we want to know about. Yes. And that includes many of those elements. And then you also say its important to review your privacy and security settings. So keep your machine clean, lock down your login. What does that mean . Password protection. Make sure you have two indications, so if you set a password, make sure you get a text message on your phone. And get rid of the apps you are not using and make sure theres Strong Security settings on the apps and if you dont need to use your camera or microphone, make sure those are turned off on the apps and digital file purge. Get rid of the emails youre not using and clean them up. If you have a lot of clutter, if you subscribe to a lot of maybe shopping lists, get rid of those youre not using. You mentioned review your privacy and security settings. I get lazy and log into things with facebook. I wonder how many different accounts have my Facebook Information and what that means. Exactly. Is there something we should be looking at when it comes to the accounts that we log into on social media . Thats the big thing, too, well be on the computer with multiple sites on and were not logging out of them. Log out of them. Because if you become a victim of maybe a criminal online cyber criminal, theyll access that information as well. On your phone, as well . So close out of those apps, because if nothing else, they are tracking your movements and you may not want some Company Tracking everywhere you go. Yes. Its important to back up your data with security cloud sites or a Password Protected drive, a separate drive, and with ransomware, you want to be careful of that. Getting rid of electronic data. Is there digital shredding . There is. You can do overriding, too. Just because you throw it in a recycle bin and delete it doesnt mean its gone from your computer or phone. It still lives there. Yes. When you turn into the phone, make sure you set it to Factory Settings to purge your phone if youre trading it in. We did a story about this. Take out your sim card. Crush it, destroy it, in some manner. Exactly. Thats how you can digitally shred your documents. What about your reallife documents .
