This is what to expect for the coast and the bay, you can anticipate morning fog and for the next couple days cooling for all of the Holiday Weekend. Ill have your full forecast coming up in a bit. This morning, a hostage situation at an upscale restaurant in bangladesh appears to be over. Police stormed the restaurant as militants took dozens of hostages at least 20 people are dead and hospital workers say another two dozen are hurt. Reporter bangladeshs Security Forces used Armored Vehicles to move into as a hostage situation. As many as nine attackers armed with automatic weapons and grenades in a restaurant. Police killed at least 6 militants and captured others and freed a dozen hostages. It happened not far from the u. S. Embassy. Reporter at least two officers were killed. They took dozens of hostages including foreigners officials said that the attackers had not responded to calls for negotiations. If islam islamic extremists say they were responsible for the attack. Just in, were learning one of the victims was a student at uc berkeley. President obama was briefed on the situation. Were learning more about the suicide bombers who carried out tuesdays deadly attack in turkey. The attackers are from russia and entered turkey a month ago from syria. There was a third man, they believe is a top soldier, but his whereabouts are unknown. Hundreds more were wounded in the attack. Back here in california, a wildfire southwest has grown to 1200acres. 12 buildings are threatened, many living near the fire have been ordered out of the homes as the wind is fanning the fastmoving flames this morning, a section of 198 is closed at highway 101. The fire is burning on both sides of the freeway. In the sierra foothills, the trail head fire has consumed 12,000 acres its putting as a damper or boating and catching this weekend. Several camping areas are closed. The drought and steep terrain is making it tough to battle the blaze but they are getting the upper fire on the wildfire. Theyre working hard. Calling in more air support and thats what they did today. The good news, the fire is a ways away from homes and businesses. Thats okay. Any prevention method you take is good. Like you say, supervision is paramount. The fencing is also important as well. Not only for the kids youre having at the pool at the time, but neighborhood kids that get into your pool some how, thats what we want to prevent. Teach kids how to swim which is an obvious tip. The other one, pool drains, teach kids to stay away from pool drains its not something a lot of people think about. There are certain types you should avoid or try to buy . So we dont have entrapments where kids get stuck on a drain. There are drain covers that need to be put in the pools, public pools and spas and as long as those are in there, they should be good. They should make sure they have a compliant drain and stay away from those drains. On the topic of tragic and unexpected accidents, theres been a couple of high profile reports of electrocution around bodies of water and theres been a series of them, around 100 shocks involving people since 1990. Not something you often think about in the bay area. We reported on a bay area father who died while trying to save his child. What can you tell us about the dangers of electrocution while swimming . Unfortunately, some have lights and such. You want to make sure that the pool is checked each season by an electrician to make sure there are no shorts, theres a ground fault interrupter attached to the pool. If there is, it will shut off. You want a fiberglass hook close by, if it is energized, you can pull them out without getting shocked yourself. Thats one of the things i noticed that many of the deaths were from folks diving in to save someone else. Grab a fiberglass or something that wont conduct electronicallity to pull them out.
