>> yesterday, you could feel the difference in pleasanton down from 101 the day before to 98. honestly, you really could feel the difference. right? today additional cooldown will happen. hi, everybody. let's go ahead and take a look at the current conditions. this is why we have the dramatic cooldown. that extension of the marine layer marching inland a good 50 miles. the coast is not clear. we can't see the top of the transamerica pyramid which leads me to believe we may have delays on some arriving flights at sfo. west-northwest winds at 17 so quite blustery along the coast this morning and around the peninsula. we have winds in fairfield up to 17 miles per hour. the winds will be variable 10 to 20. san jose's average high is 87 but today 84. so today a below average temperature. low 90s at morgan hill. 60s at the beaching, barely any afternoon clearing. 96 degrees in brentwood. remember on monday we were at 106. so we are seeing a difference there. 93 degrees in throughout livermore, low 90s around the tri-valley for the most part. 60s across the north bay beaches to the 70s out towards ter linda, 80s in san rafael, 70s out towards terra linda. 99 cloverdale. the full forecast is minutes away. first here's elizabeth. out the door, it's mainly just a lot of overnight roadwork especially in some of your bridges. if you are crossing the carquinez bridge, we have lane closures on both sides westbound and eastbound 80. we are still seeing a lot of green on the sensors. and out to the bay bridge some of the backups have cleared out in the cash lanes at 4:36. if you are getting on the bridge overnight roadwork both directions. only two lanes open. this tweet taken by power traffic producer, he took this just after 12:30 a.m. after the ballgame wrapped up. that's a quote there from a's manager bob melvin. would you think during the bay bridge series we might be able to go across the bay bridge but that might not be the case. so yeah, traffic was bad after that game wrapped up. so look at that. right now, everything is finally cleared out four hours later. here's a live look at the altamont pass, westbound 580. already a touch slow if you are coming out of tracy. clears up a little bit just past north flynn. that is "kcbs traffic." back to you guys. san jose police are looking for whoever left a man dead and another in critical condition. the shooting happened a block away from san jose state university on 11th street yesterday afternoon. police found both men shot in a car although they would not confirm whether a gray minivan in the street was involved. both men were rushed to the hospital. one died. >> we are making lunch and there was just like five or six really quick pops. but since the 4th of july we thought it was fireworks but there was something different about it. it was, like, too crisp. >> sjpd doesn't have a shooter description but is talking to several witnesses and although the shooting happened on greek row, investigators don't believe the shooting is connected to any of the homes on the street. two bay area dads are in hospital beds after narrowly escaping from a burning minivan. but their wives and children are dead. they died in the fire. the fire it was sparked by a car accident along i-5 near gorman around 3:30 yesterday morning. the two families were traveling together inside one van. the chp says first their minivan got into a minor accident with another car. but after the family pulled to the side of the freeway, the chp says a big rig plowed into their van and it burst into flames. when highway patrol got to the scene, they saw the fathers trying to help the loved ones. despite their best efforts, both women died along with their four children. >> it was hard. we had to pull them away from the vehicle. obviously they wanted to help their families and we had to keep them away from the vehicle. >> one of the families is from daly city. the other lived in san francisco's bayshore neighborhood. after a string of police shootings in san francisco and accusations of excessive force, they are changing their tactics. joe vazquez reports. >> reporter: training on the video simulator at the san francisco police academy, it doesn't take long to see just how chaotic police work can be. >> shut that door! shut that door! check left, check left! >> reporter: take this scenario with an active shooter. >> i got multiple suspects! ago, it was made very clear, a suspect with a knife might require lethal force by the police officers. that hasn't changed. but the training is more nuanced now. >> they don't have to resort to lethal force quickly, that they can take cover, that they can negotiate, that they can -- the tone of their voice has a lot to do with deescalation. >> reporter: it's been a rocky year for the department. accuses one of the leading repair shops in the state of stealing from its customers. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,, yesterday. thick black and red flames three people are missing after two trained every trains crashed in the texas panhandle yesterday. smoke and flames came out of the train cars piled on top of each other. it happened a few feet from the busy texas highway. the fire prevented search-and- rescue from locating the missing crew members on board. one jumped off before impact and is expected to be okay. state regulators say they discovered cases of fraud at firestone auto service centers. kpix 5's christin ayers has more on the undercover investigation reporter: bonny has been coming to this hayward firestone on la playa drive for the past six years. >> i come here for my regular oil changes. >> reporter: not knowing the tire shop has been under investigation for fraud. >> i don't know enough to be savvy for over charging. >> reporter: state officials say the store has been overcharging a number of its customers. it started which ainning center of complaints here in 2013. bill thomas of the california bureau of automobile repair says over two years, investigators discovered a disturbing trend. >> unnecessary services being sold to consumers. potential fraud, charge you for services that weren't performed, significant oversell. >> reporter: then the bureau got an anonymous tip from a former employee alleging that the fraud was not just happening here but at firestones all over the state. >> we prepared undercover vehicles and conducted covert undercover operations at 30 firestone locations throughout the state. >> reporter: the investigation found that of those 30, 21 firestone stores engaged in fraudulent practices like overcharging including seven location in and around the bay area. now the attorney general has drafted an accusation against each firestone store, seeking to revoke their licenses to do business in california. a spokesman for bridgestone/firestone said in a statement, bridgestone immediately launched an extensive internal investigation and shared our findings with the bureau of automobile repair. bridgestone subsequently implemented appropriate corrective actions. state officials say there's only one way to make sure you won't get ripped off next. >> always ask questions. if you are not sure of what they are explaining to you. >> reporter: in hayward, christin ayers, kpix 5. >> fresno officials will immediate today to decide what to do with two dogs that killed a baby. euthanizing them is one of the options on the table. the three-day old baby girl was killed by the the sharpei pit bull mixes after her mother placed her on a recliner and went to the bathroom. the dogs who are normally outside came in through the open front door and killed the baby. the newborn's uncle found her minutes later when he came home from the store. >> definitely heart-wrenching to see a three-day old baby had been killed by this dog. it's one of our worst incidents in the last decade. >> fresno police anticipate no charges will be filed against the mother. the dogs are currently in custody at the central california spca and are quarantined there. a warning to all dog owners this morning. someone is at it again. according to reports on social media, poisoned meatballs have once again been found in san francisco. over the last few years, on occasion, meatballs like these have turned up at dog parks around town. the latest reports have turned up in duboce park. residents there have posted alerts on toll plaza. everything is getting crowded. you can see in a few of the lanes approaching the pay gates, but not too bad. and the overnight roadwork westbound should be wrapping up here very shortly. attention? >> yes definitely. >> reporter: even at the firing range which used to be just a measurement of marksmanship, they do more. they train to useless lethal weapons including one that hasn't been approved. across the board training is prioritized for deescalation. they are ordered to give a suspect more time and space before resorting to lethal force. >> okay, throw the knife on the ground, thank you very much. >> reporter: and they are expected to try harder to negotiate whenever possible. >> perfect, perfect. >> reporter: walking the difficult line of training for a peaceful outcome while protecting themselves and the public. this is not real life. >> real life is chaos. >> reporter: joe vazquez, kpix 5. getting your car repaired is stressful. now an undercover report accuses one of the leading repair shops in the state of stealing from its customers. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,, yesterday. thick black and red flames three people are missing after two trained every trains crashed in the texas panhandle yesterday. smoke and flames came out of the train cars piled on top of each other. it happened a few feet from the busy texas highway. the fire prevented search-and- rescue from locating the missing crew members on board. one jumped off before impact and is expected to be okay. state regulators say they discovered cases of fraud at firestone auto service centers. kpix 5's christin ayers has more on the undercover investigation reporter: bonny has been coming to this hayward firestone on la playa drive for the past six years. >> i come here for my regular oil changes. >> reporter: not knowing the tire shop has been under investigation for fraud. >> i don't know enough to be savvy for over charging. >> reporter: state officials say the store has been overcharging a number of its customers. it started which ainning center of complaints here in 2013. bill thomas of the california bureau of automobile repair says over two years, investigators discovered a disturbing trend. >> unnecessary services being sold to consumers. potential fraud, charge you for services that weren't performed, significant oversell. >> reporter: then the bureau got an anonymous tip from a former employee alleging that the fraud was not just happening here but at firestones all over the state. >> we prepared undercover vehicles and conducted covert undercover operations at 30 firestone locations throughout the state. >> reporter: the investigation found that of those 30, 21 firestone stores engaged in fraudulent practices like overcharging including seven location in and around the bay area. now the attorney general has drafted an accusation against each firestone store, seeking to revoke their licenses to do business in california. a spokesman for bridgestone/firestone said in a statement, bridgestone immediately launched an extensive internal investigation and shared our findings with the bureau of automobile repair. bridgestone subsequently implemented appropriate corrective actions. state officials say there's only one way to make sure you won't get ripped off next. >> always ask questions. if you are not sure of what they are explaining to you. >> reporter: in hayward, christin ayers, kpix 5. >> fresno officials will immediate today to decide what to do with two dogs that killed a baby. euthanizing them is one of the options on the table. the three-day old baby girl was killed by the the sharpei pit bull mixes after her mother placed her on a recliner and went to the bathroom. the dogs who are normally outside came in through the open front door and killed the baby. the newborn's uncle found her minutes later when he came home from the store. >> definitely heart-wrenching to see a three-day old baby had been killed by this dog. it's one of our worst incidents in the last decade. >> fresno police anticipate no charges will be filed against the mother. the dogs are currently in custody at the central california spca and are quarantined there. a warning to all dog owners this morning. someone is at it again. according to reports on social media, poisoned meatballs have once again been found in san francisco. over the last few years, on occasion, meatballs like these have turned up at dog parks around town. the latest reports have turned up in duboce park. residents there have posted alerts on local blogs and twitter warning others to be on the lookout for anything resembling a meatball lying around the park. >> i think it's terrible. i do watch where she goes and what she picks up. she is anything. but some roadwork could slow you down especially if you are crossing the lower deck of the bay bridge. three out of the five lanes remain closed right now trying to get into oakland. the rest of the bay bridge approaches though if you are heading to san francisco look good with those 50-mile-per- hour speed limit signs right there or speeds right there. and that's a live look at the toll plaza. everything is getting crowded. you can see in a few of the lanes approaching the pay gates, but not too bad. and the overnight roadwork westbound should be wrapping up here very shortly. here's a live look at 880 in oakland. we have more roadwork out in the east bay. this time the southbound lanes of 880 between 23rd and 29th that isn't scheduled to wrap up until closer to 6:00. so it will be out there for a while longer, traffic is heading southbound into san leandro and hayward. here's the san mateo bridge. westbound commute still clear only 13 minutes between hayward and foster city. up and over the high-rise everything is clear to the east bay. golden gate bridge talked a little bit about the fog across the deck this morning so watch out for that heading from sausalito. but the drive times from san rafael still in the green. we are not seeing much in the way of a commute yet in the south bay. 101 clear morgan hill into san jose, guadalupe parkway and 280 look good through downtown. in fact, this is a nice drive along the peninsula if you have one of those early-morning flights out of sfo. so far no delays along 101 or 280 heading through san bruno. mass transit
