bay area checking in accident- free. so hopefully it stays "friday light." >> yes. we're hoping. thank you. an oakland man and his two small children missing in the sierra for two days have been found safe. they were on a camping trip in down anyville a remote part of the sierra. an air national guard helicopter crew found them last night. at about 8 p.m., the crews spotted 41-year-old nicholas vlahos and his 5-year-old and 3- year-old children. later they appeared to be okay in the back of an ambulance. a deputy sheriff says the father was driving a pickup when it slipped off an embankment in mud. he tried to get it back on the road unsuccessfully. but they had food and water. >> they don't need to go to the hospital. they have been checked out by paramedics so it's good news. they are alive and well. >> vlahos and his children were supposed to return to the bay area on tuesday night. eventually other families members called the sheriff's office and said they were overdue. the search is on for a man who took his daughters in a possible case of abduction. police say 45-year-old everett dean reef picked up the girls from an after-school program on tuesday. a judge had awarded him temporary custody unaware that the man's ex-wife had a restraining order against him. an oregon state trooper stopped him wednesday night near eugene but let him continue northbound. a 13-year-old girl is talking about the man who followed her home and attacked her. it was all captured by a surveillance camera in her west san jose home. the girl managed to fight off the man who then ran away. but police hope surveillance images will generate leads and eventually lead to his arrest. san jose police warn west side businesses to keep an eye out for the man whom they describe as a sexual predator. two other images show him at an nearby subway sandwich shop 15 minutes before the girl was stopped while walking home from school. that led to this incident in the teen's home on tuesday afternoon. and the girl spoke with kpix 5 about the frightening ordeal. >> i trade to slam the door on -- i tried to slam the door on him and i couldn't. he gets in side and tries to grab me. i push him back. i try to get him off of me. >> well, she says she then slammed her hand into his face and police believe the same man tried to sexually assault a young woman last month in a restroom at mitsua market on saratoga avenue. the police are following leads but no arrests. a new round of severe weather could produce more tornadoes today and tomorrow in southern plains states. some drone video here showing some of the damage in oklahoma city after tornadoes on wednesday night. that was a hotel that had it its roof ripped off. cars were overturned, homes flattened. governor of oklahoma declared a state of emergency for a dozen counties. wild weather in the bay area yesterday. one of the rarest sightings up north. a kpix 5 weather watcher spotted this funnel cloud in sebastopol. another unusual sight especially in may. hail! check it out. pea sized ice chunks on the ground in fremont yesterday at 8 a.m. because of a low pressure system in the upper level of the atmosphere combined with unstable air. that's what roberta told us to say. i feel heartbroken. i feel -- i feel devastated. i feel devastated for the girls who had the experiences over and over and over again. >> reporter: parents and students hope the feds will force the district to do more in preventing sexual harassment on campus. >> to make it so that students are supporting women reporting so that students and teachers get education around what sexual harassment is and how to prevent it. >> reporter: da lin, kpix 5. >> this is the second time in five years the federal government has done a sexual harassment investigation at berkeley high. today a rally planned at san francisco city hall to call attention to the city's affordable housing crisis. hundreds are expected to turn out to call on lawmakers to place a moratorium on evictions and luxury priced development in the mission. housing rights activists also want the funding to buil more affordable housing. some people in san jose say they have had enough of a homeless camp set up just outside their backyards. this is happening in a neighborhood just southeast of the capital auto mall. neighbors are upset about the trash and debris and the resulting odor. >> a lot of noise. they have pets back there dogs are barking. sometimes they argue. just, you know, like the smell. >> the city of san jose can't do much about the homeless camp because it's on state owned property. but caltrans has told the neighbors it plans to evict the homeless sometime next week. east bay m.u.d. is telling customers there's no need to worry if your tap water tastes strange. the water district has made some adjustments because of the drought including getting water that's closer to the surface of a reservoir that can sometimes be covered with algae. the organisms are filtered out but there's a bad tasting after taste. >> i smelled it the last time around when we had this issue. do you remember that? i feel heartbroken. i feel -- i feel devastated. i feel devastated for the girls who had the experiences over and over and over again. >> reporter: parents and students hope the feds will force the district to do more in preventing sexual harassment on campus. >> to make it so that students are supporting women reporting so that students and teachers get education around what sexual harassment is and how to prevent it. >> reporter: da lin, kpix 5. >> this is the second time in five years the federal government has done a sexual harassment investigation at berkeley high. today a rally planned at san francisco city hall to call attention to the city's affordable housing crisis. hundreds are expected to turn out to call on lawmakers to place a moratorium on evictions and luxury priced development in the mission. housing rights activists also want the funding to buil more affordable housing. some people in san jose say they have had enough of a homeless camp set up just outside their backyards. this is happening in a neighborhood just southeast of the capital auto mall. neighbors are upset about the trash and debris and the resulting odor. >> a lot of noise. they have pets back there dogs are barking. sometimes they argue. just, you know, like the smell. >> the city of san jose can't do much about the homeless camp because it's on state owned property. but caltrans has told the neighbors it plans to evict the homeless sometime next week. east bay m.u.d. is telling customers there's no need to worry if your tap water tastes strange. the water district has made some adjustments because of the drought including getting water that's closer to the surface of a reservoir that can sometimes be covered with algae. the organisms are filtered out but there's a bad tasting after taste. >> i smelled it the last time around when we had this issue. do you remember that?
