news now overnight. okay we are going to go on to another story. the emergency vehicles here lined up to i-280. this is after a man stopped to help the victim of a car crash. that person was killed. it happened about 2:30 yesterday morning on southbound interstate 280 atwoodside road. >> reporter: the driver of the silver toyota forerunner, he was on the look out for drunk drivers and careful to stay at 65 miles an hour. the driver of the black honda sedan, must have been going 100 miles an hour. the driver of the toyota suv did not want to talk on camera but told us the impact sent his car spinning out of control, hit the median and slid to a stop. shortly after that, a good samaritan pulled his jeep to the side. he walked into the lane and hit and killed. >> we recommend people do not stop on the freeway and help. just call 911 and let us know what's going on. if you stop, other people cannot see you and your life will be a struggle. >> the man who caused the initial crash suffered minor injuries and charged with felony dui. the people inside the toyota suv suffered minor injuries. >> the driver of the suv says he is thankful he stopped to help. however, he would not have done the same thing himself. >> the woman who was with the good samaritan was heard screaming and came to his side to help. but the man, a 33-year-old resident died on the scene. >> justice for trayvon rally drew a crowd to city hall. one of dozens of protests across the country in the wake of george zimmerman's acquittal carrying signs. about 100 people demonstrated in the same spot a week ago. police were on high alert after violence and vandalism the previous weekend. that scene was not repeated. police say hundreds of people demonstrated in three separate rallies and no arrests. >> time busy. the drive time is still in the clear. 18 minutes between the pass and 680. some slowing eastbound 580 because of overnight road work. they have two of the right lanes blocked. bart has more than scrutiny. the driver's wife tells the news he had been arguing with her, loud music blaring and he turned the music louder so the women in the back couldn't hear her fight. he admitted he misunderstood. thinking they were asking if he could have a cigarette. here's what he said. >> if i would have known she had saying i want to smoke a cigarette, maybe 30 seconds, 60 seconds would have been spared. but everything happened so fast. >> the nine passengers on the night of may 4th were women. when the back of the limo backfilling with smoke and fire. the new bride and four other women died through the tiny partition. four other women in the back and the driver lived. he called her several times from the roadside before he called 911. this is what he said at the time. >> i see the ladies coming through the partition. i'm trying to use the phone. i'm shaking and nervous. brown's wife said he was upset trying to make amends after a public fight during which police were called. >> the san mateo county district attorney's office says it will follow up with brown's estranged wife to see how distracted he may have been. police had never interviewed her. kpix 5. >> chp has not issued the results of investigation but focused on friction from the drive shaft as the cause of that fire. >> checking headlines around the bay area. san francisco police are trying to determine whether a deadly shooting was gang related. two groups of men were involved in the shooting saturday night. 24-year-old gadoy was killed. a police officer fired once but did not hit anyone. that officer did catch one suspect. the stakes are higher for information leading to the suspect behind the poison meat balls. hundreds of them were placed around the city for dogs to eat. one dog died. $5,000 is now being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction. bagpipes played in a special ceremony remembering the sacrifice of firefighters. the district lost 16 personnel in the line of duty since 1969. the names of the fallen are being commemorated on a memorial wall in concord. >> the bay area's demonstrated commitment to ending aides. sunday's annual aides walk raised $2.5 million. 28 other local organizations helping people. more than $80 million has been raised for lifesaving programs since 1987. >> coming up. what happened inside a new zealand news room shaken up by news about earthquakes on the other side of the world. at least 75 people were killed by a quake in north western china. happened at 7:45 this morning and lasted for about a minute. the quake was magnitude 6.6. the chinese red cross is rushing to the area with tents, clothing and household items for the victims. and look what happened in television new zealand's news room as 6.9 quake hit. you can see a woman looking for a safe spot. power was knocked out in some areas but no injuries reported and only minor damage. >> dozens of evacuees are back in their homes down in the south land as firefighter's get a handle on the mountain fire. evacuation orders were lifted for idyllwild. and they got help from mother nature. firefighters have made progress as a result. the 42 square mile fire is about 50% contained. >> we've had a lot of rain in the last day. inch and a half last night and inch and a half today. helping our crews get containment on the fire. >> the bad news is they got help from thunderstorms and lightning. let's hope they don't trigger more. 2600 firefighters on scenes. 26 structures destroyed since the fire started and that includes 7 homes. the total cost of the fire about $20 million. and rescue crews dropped a life line to stranded fires after raging flash floods swept through the city. clean up is underway after the storm brought as much as 2 inches of rain an hour. airlifts. when the water subsided mud was left covering roads and cars and that same system is not going to bring that much rain. i should leave it up to lawrence. >> no, it's not. not going to bring that rain here. slight chance we could see thunderstorms in the bay area from that moisture around the ridge. what we're seeing is low clouds and fog. we have dense fog in those areas. fog inside the bay as well. cloudy skies inside the valleys. monsoonal clouds will rotate by. temperatures may be in the upper 80s and warmer spots inland. and 60s out toward the coastline and staying cloudy. low off the coastline. high pressure just to our east. wrap around moisture working its way back. combination of two systems bringing a chance of a few thunderstorms here in the bay area. things possibly a little unsettled. computer models not picking up. wrap around clouds doesn't show any moisture as far as rain or thunderstorms. a chance we could see activity for the latter part of the day. in the south bay about 85 in morgan hill. 62 in pacifica. upper 80s in the warmer spots and inside the bay about 63. 70 in oakland. and the next couple days, we are going to watch those news overnight. san francisco police are searching the bay view district. police say when a woman convinced a homeowner to open his gate after midnight, two men rushed in behind her and fought with the homeowner. the victim was stabbed during a struggle but is expected to survive. one suspect was caught trying to get away. officers are searching for that woman and another man. a serial killer was his inspiration. expected to face charges after three female bodies were found on his property. police responded to a foul odor report and found the bodies wrapped in trash bags. former girlfriend is speaking out but does not want her face shown. she feels lucky she did not become a victim. >> he pulled a gun and pointed a gun to my head and asked me was i ready to die. >> he searches the streets for young girls or women like me. >> the bodies were very decomposed and take several days to identify the victims and how they died. >> politics is taking over easy going marin. don knapp on
