Tragedy on a south bay freeway early this morning after a driver veered off the road and died in a fiery crash. A couple of lanes were blocked for several hours but the chp cleaned it up in less than three hours. All lanes are back open at this noon hour. Heres a look at whats left of the wreck. The chp says a subaru wagon heading northbound on 101 just before blossom hill road at 2 a. M. For whatever reason, the driver veered off the road into a tree. No signs of any socalled evasive maneuvers, no skidmarks or evidence that the driver tried to stop. The force of the impact nearly split that Station Wagon in half. It burst into flames. The trees then caught fire. Good samaritans called 911. Emergency crews couldnt get to the driver for 20 minutes because of the heat and flames. It turns out the driver was from washington state. But the body was burned beyond recognition so badly that they couldnt even tell if the driver was male or female. No word on the cause of the crash or if driver fatigue was a factor. Health Officials Say more wild animals now looking for water are coming out of the hills closer to homes. Recently we have seen Mountain Lions and bobcats in suburban parts of the bay area. And back in may, a Mountain Lion was captured near downtown san mateo. The weather gets warmer more pets are outside and are at risk of encountering an animal potentially infected with rabies. As we have been growing as a community, as a world into the wilds of the areas, the wild animals are actually end were encroaching on their space. There they are. Our dogs and cats are potentially at risk if a wild animal has rabies. You have to get bit to get it . A wild animal mammal has to bite the other mammal to get it. If you think your dog might have it or you dont know, what to look for . Actually if you know your dog has been bitten, you have to notify authorities right away because if theres any potential for rabies we have to get on it immediately. So it starts out as flulike symptoms in two to 10 days and theres a wound sensitivity and eventually it is a disease of the brain and so you will see abnormalities in the way they think and act so the big rule of thumb is if you are outside and see a skunk or raccoon abnormally, friendly, outgoing, out during the daytime rather than at night, always stay away. Always stay away. Yeah. How about vaccinations . Key here . For prevention, vaccine is the definitely way to go. So its very important that the animals who are outside including ferrets, need to be vaccinated for rabies. Thats how we prevent it. Call your vet, take your dog in immediately . Vaccinate your pet in general. Thats part of our vaccine protocol. But its a completely different conversation in terms of what happens if your animal is bit. So if a healthy animal bites a human being that needs to be notified and the animal is usually watched for 10 days, i believe.
