This morning in noe valley in castro neighborhoods in San Francisco, they were torched. The first around 4 15 at cumberland and church. 40 minutes later a second car set on fire at 17th and church. The next fire was on liberty and raburn just after 5. An hour after that, firefighters responded to another car ablaze just a few yards further down raburn street. Everything is still under investigation but its suspicious. No word on what was used to start the fires. A man driving a stolen car crashed into a power pole this morning in san jose and died. Officers say crews will be clearing the scene until 1 00 today. It happened on yerba buena road at chisholm street. The driver died at the scene. A benicia resident shot an intruder who broke into his home this morning. The suspect broke through the sliding glass door of an elderly couples home on panorama drive around 4 30. The victim yelled at the man to leave but he didnt listen. Thats when the homeowner shot hatch in the torso. He was taken into custody before going to the hospital. Detectives say hatch explained he was really drunk and mistakenly thought he had locked himself out of his house. Students across Oakland Unified School district are planning a massive walkout. It was supposed to start at noontime. Kpix 5s anne makovec joins us from the District Office where students plan to end their march this afternoon. Anne. Reporter and the plan was to have students at all grade levels walk out of class and march here to the District Office on broadway and downtown oakland. It was going to start at noon. These students say they wanted to have their voices heard when it comes to racism, inequality and police brutality. The last big protest in oakland was on monday when 200 people Doppler Radar chaining themselves to the Oakland Police headquarters and shutting down nearby streets. 25 people were arrested. The oakland School District says it encourages students to find ways to spread their message but walking out of school or risking injury or arrest is not encouraged. If students are getting arrested, if students are being physically injured, if their safety is at risk, then were not being responsible stewards if were encouraging that behavior. Reporter he says the district does support the group in principle but not the way its going about todays protest, set to start at noon starting at the individual schools and then ending here at district headquarters. Cars and trucks were pulled over on the side of interstate 80 required to chain up. And for a while crews were out checking if chains were on the wheels. Its hard because we couldnt get our chains on. Likely they just lifted the controls. So thats good. But its definitely difficult when youre not used to it. Chains are required but i dont know how to put them on. I have never done it before. Crews turned around anyone who wasnt equipped with chains to drive through the snow. I remember driving through the sierra the first time and seeing a lot of people on the side with chains. Chaining up. Fourwheel drive car is so much easier. Zip right up. The best 30 investment i have ever made in my life. Then its 10 on the other side to take them off . But just to buy them is only about 30 bucks. Always have them, then you just slip them the 20 to put them on. Leave it to the pros always. We have had a few scattered showers hit and miss and some these cells contain that yellow and that orange, which is copius amounts of precipitation fall all at once. Thats a beautiful scene looking out towards the transamerica building where the clouds are getting darker and darker. Our temperatures are currently in the 50s. The winds are fluctuating between the south and southeast at 9 miles per hour. Heres what you need to know this afternoon. We will have rain developing and its going to spread from the north to the south scattered showers through the evening hours before it begins to taper off. And then one more juicy storm on tap for friday. Heres futurecast. You can see this early afternoon, the rain begins to fall from the north all the way into the south and all points in between. At some point we have those cells that leash out a bunch of heavy rain all at once. Some of those little cells can contain up to an inch of rain. I dont think well see this move through but nevertheless well stay wet all the way through earlymorning tomorrow morning. The bulk of the day is going to be dry. Well even get some peeks of sunshine which means maybe a few rainbows out there. Over the next 24 hours we have put our computer models into gear here and come up with these totals, expecting anywhere from a quart to half inch of rain throughout many locations in the bay area. A San Francisco startup is looking for a thief on a popular dating app. Cofounder of build zoom David Peterson has posted this picture of a suspect on a dating app called tinder. The app has thousands of local users and he claims the woman broke into his office and stole laptops on three different occasions. Theres so much petty crime and this whole class of criminals has basically been taught, hey, we can basically do anything, no one is going to investigate it. He posted the picture on tinder four days ago hoping someone will recognize the woman. He says he will pass his leads on to the police department. Liquor stores will soon have a new set of rules to abide by in contra costa county. The board of directors approved what they call alcopop restrictions. They want Liquor Stores to place the drinks in different locations than sodas and next to the alcohol. The ordinance only affects unincorporated areas of the county. And theres a new loophole in the law that requires chain restaurants to list the calories in the alcoholic drinks. The law doesnt apply to people who order from the bar or to drink not drinks that arent listed on the menu. Restaurants, bakeries, coffee shops or Convenience Stores with 20 or more locations must show the calories now on a menu board by december of 2015. The San Francisco Fire Department purposely lit up a Christmas Tree today but it was all to raise awareness. And there it goes. Fire officials spoke on the importance of fire safety over the holidays. The Christmas Tree fully engulfed in flames in only 8 seconds. The fire chief said its important now to show homeowners how deadly and how fast the fire can burn a tree and possibly a home. Well, bay area bicyclists had his gopro camera rolling when he suddenly ran into a deer. We want to warn you the video is graphic. But keep a close eye on the road ahead.
