Now hundreds of patients in Sonoma County will have to find a new hospital. Palmdrive hospital is set to close. Any minute they will lock the doors. Any minute. And with it 130 jobs. Administrators here say they have seen a drop in patients over the years, as well as the finances, which at the start of the year, they say took a turn for the worse. Palmdrive District Hospital barely has a pulse. According to a hospital spokesperson, a reduction in medicaremedical reimbursement, fewer patients and more competition from big name hospitals like kaiser have nearly spent this small rural hospital to its death. I think that is the bottom line, is that we did everything we could, to keep this open, and we just cant do it based on the current volumes. Reporter odds against him, dr. James good says he has the cure to cure this sick hospital. First, bankruptcy. And then let the doctors take over the facility. What were asking is that the bankruptcy is fine, but we like to proceed with keeping the hospital open with a doctors proposal of how to turn it around. Reporter dr. Good says the doctors have secured 2 million to keep the hospital running three more months. That money, along with introducing new treatments, like womens wellness, good says palmdrive can have a positive cash flow yet again. Current management isnt 100 ruling out that idea. I know that our board is considering many different options and thats certainly one of them. Dr. Good says he is not ready to walk away from palm drive. Hoping to revive this hospital, and save more than 100 full time jobs. If they do, we will stay here as long as we have to until they reopen the doors. They are set to lock these doors officially any moment. You can see people gathering around, just to see that, that final ceremonial locking there. And now, for patients in Sonoma County, there are other options that are miles away. Sutter and kaiser, not too far. And also, dr. Goodwill be set up with his office, right there, and he is partnering with a doctor right next door to make sure patient care here am Sonoma County continues. Developing news, a statewide amber alert is now canceled after a 3yearold girl was found. Tanya ruiz was found this morning, running in a field in sherlawn in Fresno County of the child was snatched from her mothers car in the same car last night. Doctors are now checking her out. Police are still searching for her abductor. And a young woman from san jose is facing murder charges, after telling investigators she stabbed her 7monthold boy to death. Officers found a car badly damaged in the Regional Park mere livermore. A short time later the woman approached the scene with the woman covered in blood with the child unconscious in her arms and the child was pronounced dead at the scene and a knife nearby. The woman is held in jail with no bail. Investigators dont have a clear motive but they believe she may have been suffering from depression. Contra costa county deflects are investigating the discovery of a body in the 4200 block of santa rita road in sell sebrante overnight. And the Sheriffs Office had a report of gunfire and a 32year old man was shot. He was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. A helicopter, two boats are searching San Pablo Bay for a small plane that crashed into the water over the weekend. It is one of two planes that collided in midair yesterday, near the Richmond San Rafael bridge, and that second plane landed safely. Kpix5 reporter is above san palo harbor in richmond with the latest. Kate . Reporter the coast guard cutter has been pulling up debris from the plane and canvassing the area behind me. You can take a look. The coast guard says they have not found the plane but they might have an idea of where it is based off of witness accounts and fuel and oil bubbling up in that area. And now the search effort started at first light by both sea and air, with the helicopter from air station san francisco. So far, no signs of the pilot or the main body of the plane identified as a single engine cessna. The faa and it the somebody are part of this investigation. And the ntsb are part of the investigation. They have not released the names of the pilots involved just that they knew each other. And investigators say the pilots were flying together and one got under the other and contact was made. We have not seen any persons in the water and we have one person reported being on the plane that went down. I dont see much of the plane left hitting the water that hard. The other plane is a world war ii aircraft. It is a hawker c series, it was carrying a husband and wife. That plane limped back, about 100 miles northeast. And were learning that the Contra Costa County Sheriffs Office is meeting with the other investigators involved. The tornado, about a half mile wide, stayed on the ground for 80 miles. Tearing up everything in its path. Including a brand new 12 million school, that was set to open this fall. Storm watchers videotaped another twister in northeastern oklahoma touching down am and then plowing its way into kansas. Destroying nearly 100 homes and businesses. Residents in quapa oklahoma saying the tornado wiped out the warning sign and it never went off. No siren. No nothing. President obama, in the philippines today, sent his condolences to the tornado victim, promming the government will help promising the government will help them recover. In the last few minutes we learned one of the victim asks is a victims is a member of the Arizona National guard. We dont have a name yet. We will look at the wether there in a second but we will probably see more tornadoes, more Severe Weather for them toe deal with today. We on the other hand are dealing with gorgeous weather. Lots of sunshine out there. A wild day today. And a chance for record breaking heat coming up. And lots of blue skies. Sunshine. The temperatures are warming up nicely. 67 in concord. 63 in san francisco. And 65 degrees in san jose. This afternoon, plenty of sunshine. All day long. But still enough of a sea breeze to just bring us some mild temperatures now. Tonight, that will change. The offshore wind will begin to set up. And that means mostly clear skies and hot temperature, possible record, as we head through the middle of the week. The High Pressure building overhead right now, that will bring us the mild sunshine. And bring us sunshine, all the way to the coastline today, and then things begin to change. All right. We saw the devastation caused by the tornadoes. Here is the storms on the radar showing up. You can see the tornado watches stretching across much of the deep south. And continuing to watch. 2446 hours, very dangerous. As the slowmoving line of thunderstorms will roll on through and likely to see more tornadoes tonight and probably again tomorrow, too before things start to settle down. The temperatures around the state today, planning on 70s in the Central Valley and 60s in the monterey bay area, but mostly sunny skies. And about 70 in yosemite. Around the bay today, 73 in san jose. And 72 in palo alto. And 68 in hayward. And east bay number, low to mid 70s by this afternoon and then inside the bay, should be a very comfortable day, and 71 in oakland and 67 in san francisco. The sunset time is at 7 57. And the sunrise, 6 16. Next couple of day, here we go, that ridge of High Pressure builds in and how about this, summer heat coming our way, and maybe some recordbreaking temperatures. Maybe mid90s could be warmer in a couple of spots, toward wednesday and thursday. I think even out toward the coastline, those temperatures are up into the 70s. July. It feels like july. A bay area teenager caught between two worlds. The possibility that you might end up dying on the streets. Balancing his life between a prestigious private school and a dangerous neighborhood. Wendy tokuda has our students rising above. ,,,,,,,,,, also about life le going to school is about more than what you learn inside your textbook in it is also about life lessons. Wendy tokuda says our student rising above this week has developed some pretty special skills while living in two very different worlds. The College Preparatory school in oakland is one of the most prestigious private schools in the east bay. When alejandro ahakedo won a scholarship there, was a bit like winning the lottery, except he had to be really smart. The expectation here for college, it is youre going to go to college, youre going go to a fouryear institution, and youre probably going to do very well. He is constantly looking for ways to get better. For ways to improve. He is not satisfied with being where he is. He is always pushing himself. His scholarship came through a Nonprofit Program called a better chance. The name says it all. Because when alejandro takes the bus home to east oakland, the focus is on survival, not education. There are gangs roaming the streets. And the possibility that you might end up dying on the streets because of a stray bullet has happened with many people. Reporter 39 murders in east oakland last year. 865 aggravated assaults. And poverty. Hall han drows five Family Member alejandros five Family Members live in a two bedroom apartment and in the shaky home video you can hear the bustle. Alejandros parents are divorced. His single mom works long hours cleaning houses. She comes home tired and it is like it has been so many years of this same thing, going on, and just work and work and work. And it definitely makes we want to strive to be better. To help her out. Reporter what she does, cooking, make sure his brother does his homework he has a small apartment. He didnt have a place to do his work. He doesnt have quiet to do his work. It is an entirely different universe. The boys sleep on a bunk bed in the front room. Money is always short. Rent is 900. And my mom makes maybe a little more than 1,000. So we dont do very well. Not enough money to buy school supplies. Not enough money to get a snack if he is hungry. It would be hard for most teenagers to navigate these two worlds. But alejandro does it with a dignity that is unusual for someone his age. There have been families here that know of our situation, and sometimes they will give us clothes that they dont need, or sometimes it will be a box of food, or vegetables, and it might be a thanks where it has helped us out. It meant a lot. He is grounded enough, to know that money doesnt define him. And have a sense that other things are more important. What has helped you rise above . Education is key. It is something that my mom has told me and something that yes, i live by. It is that search for knowledge. The man stepped forward. The bear leak, no one had any idea who left the cub at their facility in homewood on april 17. This little guy. Until they received an anonymous car saturday afternoon, and a man said he found tahoe, crying and hugging her deceased mother near humbolt park and he picked up the cub and drove the six plus hours to the tahoe organization so that little guy could get a little loving and a little help. Tahoe is pretty cute.
