A firefighter is injured while battling a mobile home fire that broke out about an hour ago. Responding crews called out for additional help. We dont know the extent of that firefighters injuries. Another person may have also been injured. Weve got a crew headed that way. State right here with kpix5 for the very latest on the san jose fire. Its been weeks, but the bay area finally got some much needed rain. Wet streets in downtown san jose overnight, not a huge amount, but its still something. Lawrence is in the Weather Center with a chance for a little rain later. A gentle rain indeed. Well take anything we can get. Out the door we go, our hidef Doppler Radar tracking this storm system rolling back the clock about six hours, most of the rain coming overnight. You see a couple waves sliding through. The main focus is in toward the south bay where we had almost 1 4inch over the east bay mountains. Still it looks like things are quieting down now, but its kind of a break. Weve got another system that will slide onshore later this evening likely to bring another round of showers, but so far weve got a long way to go. Much of the western half of the United States is under severe Drought Conditions. Extreme Drought Conditions for a good part of california, but a new designation today not a good one, exceptional drought forecast expected right through santa cruz, santa clara counties and also into monterey county. Weve got a long way to go. Were about 10 inches below normal, guys, and it looks like well be drying things up pretty soon, too. Is. Three communities in sonoma and santa cruz counties could be out of water within two to three months. Thats how bad the drought is. Governor jerry brown is meeting with water managers today as the state grapples with these extreme conditions. As our anne makovec reports, the drought is even getting attention from the white house. The governor and the president are making it clear theyre ready to act before any california communities run dry. Make no mistake. This drought is a big wakeup call and a reminder that we do depend on natural systems. More than a dozen Southern California water officials met with the governor to talk about a drought problem so critical it could require federal assistance. I spoke to president obama yesterday by telephone. He pledged his support to help california. In a statement the white house says the president reinforced his commitment to providing the necessary federal support to the state and local efforts. Todays meeting is a first step toward facilitating water transfers from Southern California to areas that are already drying up. Water managers say the drought situation in Southern California is not dire yet thanks to Water Conservation and plumbing code reform. The 20yearold is accused of planting pressure cooking bombs near the finish line of the marathon last april. The bombings killed three people and wounded more than 260 others. Tsarnaev pled not guilty to more than 30 federal charges against him. A trial date has not been set. It looks like were drawing things out now, but there is more off the coastline and we compact more showers developing later on today expect more showers developing later on today and throughout the night. The temperatures running up now mainly in the 50s around the bay area, sneaking up to the 60s into santa rosa, 55 degrees in San Francisco and 58 degrees into oakland. I think as we head throughout the afternoon, well see numerous clouds, still a slight chance of a few scattered showers. Then i think those showers becoming more numerous later this evening and overnight tonight, but then it looks like well dry things out as we head in toward the weekend. So weve got a cold front finally swinging through the bay area. That big blocking ridge is gone now. The front is moving by bringing rainfall overnight. Behind this weve got another weak area of low pressure. That may be just enough to kick out a few more showers and it looks like after that well dry things out again. So letsen joy it while we have it. We could be back to a lot of dry next week. The high country, we were talking about it, could see nor 6 to 12 inches. Winter storm warnings are up there again. Be very careful if youre traveling there, a lot of snow coming down. Youll need the chains. You can wait till tomorrow. Things will dry out nicely. For the computer models the system is sliding by as we head throughout the afternoon, then picking up into the evening hours, maybe for the commute a couple scattered light showers. As we get in towards later tonight the winds start to move offshore and our skies clear off early tomorrow morning. With that in mind, chance of showers tonight, drying out tomorrow, temperatures expected to be in the 50s in the south bay, 50s, maybe low 60s in the interior valleys. Inside the bay those numbers run up in the 50s and 60s. Your sunset time 5 31, sunrise 7 14. Over the next couple days we dry out, slight chance of showers toward the coastline sunday. Then dry and above normal temperatures next week. Our kpix5 reporter Roberta Gonzales are in livermore where the drought is concerning some of the grape growers. Reporter its concernly 57 degrees and the winds have picked up out of the south at 10. The no. 1 question in the valley were going to ask carolyn vinty. No. 1 question, the drought, is it affecting the vineyards, the crop . This time of year the vineyards are dormant, so were not as concerned. I would say february 1 is kind of the drought dead late. Reporter these behind me are brandnew crops and in about three years theyll produce fruit. What kind of hopes do we have for them . Because theyre baby vines water is always good, but we still have the ability to appropriately add irrigation to help the root structure of the vine start, so so far, so good with them. Reporter but were talking about irrigation and were also talking about water reduction. We are and the governor said 20 water reduction. I think we can live within that because most grape glories are very prudent about the application of water growers are very prudent about the application of water and really want to conserve. Reporter pastor mayfield has distributed food to needy families since 1992 through his oakland nonprofit c. G. And m. Ministries. He started the program at Victory Baptist Church in oakland. I just like to make people happy. It makes you feel good. Reporter in 1996 he started driving around to low income communities in Alameda County. He would park his packed van and start greeting the neighbors. I said excuse me. Would you guys need anything to eat today . Its a different kind of milk.
