Reporter adrian moore takes us through that process. It actually is i think a pretty realistic goal. Reporter its an idea that could harvest some groundbreaking results and change the way we make wine. Its a matter of taking these existing technologies and putting them together in a way that nobody has really done before. Reporter david block is one of more than a dozen researchers at ucdavis looking to keep you raising a glass instead of inducing sour grapes during the drought. If you walk through a vineyard like this one, not every vine needs the same amount of watered. Reporter with a specialized system that includes using rainwater, the group is irrigating 640 vines giving each individual one the exact amount of water it needs. Its all Wireless Technology and so the goal is to be able to be sitting somewhere remotely from the vineyard and be able to control the amount of water that each vine is getting depending on the amount of water it needs. Will these grapes eventually look smaller because youre not putting so much water into it . So its its possible that the grapes might be smaller. And the other key thing is, is the ability to clean this in an automated way. And so these are set up to cip technology. Reporter cip, or clean in place technology, allows automated cleaning of fermenting tanks which researchers then reuse. Well save that in a tank and the cleaning system and use that for the first rinse of the next tank. Reporter with much more analysis still ahead, the fruits of their labor could bring some sustainable success with your next sip. Making sure that the next generation and the generation after that can still be in that business and help to make great wine and to support californias economy. Thats the goal for u. They hope to make this happen in the next five years across the state. Every drop counts. Every drop. Every drop. Every drop. Especially when youre running out of drops. We are. Yeah. We dont see any drops in the near future. If there are three months where you can say forget about it, we are coming to it. We get. 25 of rainfall in the three combined months. Ridge of High Pressure hanging out for about, oh, 36 more hours. Its going to high tail it out of here. As it stays for the next day to day and a half, it will limit the onshore flow. Certainly there in daly city with a high of 53 but that light onshore flow did allow areas way from the water to warm up into the 80s and 90s. That will not be the case coming up on sunday as the onshore flow races back in temperatures drop especially inland because that ocean temperature is 53 degrees and the air above it is just about the same temperature. High pressure hanging out next week but it stays far enough away a light to moderate onshore flow continues. Welcome to june. This is now what we should expect. Cloudy cool at the coast. Warmer inland. Well do it tomorrow and for many of the next several days. Livermore 81 tomorrow. Vallejo 71. San francisco 64. No 90s tomorrow.
