KPIX KPIX 5 News At 6pm April 22, 2014

Is being diverted off. The southbound traffic affected as well. Northbound at the south deanza exit. If you know anybody headed home from work, give them advance notice. Tell them to go tore way. We have no word on when those lanes are the other way. We have no word on when those lanes will be reopened. Of course, it will be helpful if the people in the southbound lane will keep moving instead of slowing down. Allen, thank you for that. The new Warriors Arena wont be built along the waterfront after all. The warriors are ditching their plan to build arena. Instead, sources tell kpix 5 the team is shooting for a 12 acre site in mission bay. Phil matier joins us live from that new site in San Francisco. Phil, why the change of plans . Reporter a couple of reasons. One, politics. Two, costs. It is still going to be near the water, as you can see. But it is not going to actually be on the waterfront. That makes a big difference. Heres the story. It means it might not get built. Sources tells that the Golden State Warriors have decided to move their dream of an 18,000 seat arena away from the bay bridge to this new, less contentious location in nearby mission bay. They have moved it away trouble makers the waterfront. It is a much more positive project than it ever hash. While the new site is further away from downtown, making it harder to use the arena for conventions, even supporters say the growing opposition to the earlier plan spelled trouble at the ballot box. Choosing a new site seems like a good move. I think with the prior site there were a number of issues. Traffic congestion and a number of really very difficult challenges. This timing the warriors will be building on their own time, the warriors will be building on private land so there wont be as many fights with having to win approval of the various state and local commissions that oversee San Franciscos waterfront. Never an easy task in this city. It is a positive development in terms of making sure we get this worldclass arena in San Francisco and bring the warriors home. Opponents of the arena had already qualified a ballot measure that would have required voter approval for any waterfront gulf of mexicos. But from the looks of things, there wont be a fought over this new one. They listened to what people had to say and thats what they have done. Reporter the mayor ed lee saided to he was okay wit change. He said if you said he was okay with the change. He said if you have to pivot to win, pivot. Thats what the warriors are doing. Elizabeth. Yeah. There were a long list of issues that you brought up about original plan. Became churros, how much is the cost of building on those old piers play into this decision . Reporter very big. As you might remember, back at the americas cup, it was talk of. This estimated cost was 70 million. Now, it has more than double that as far as putting an arena there. This land behind us isnt cheap. It is some of the prime real estate on the west coast. But if they buy it, not only do they get to fix it, but they own it at tend. So they walk away with an asset rather than just a lease. With an arena on top of it that was getting increasingly more and more expensive to build. Phil matier, thank you. Live look at San Jose International airport. Authorities are trying to figure out how a teenager got past security, climbed into the wheel well of a secret liner and viverred a survived a flight to hawaii. First, our bet betty yu is in hawaii with the teenagers survival. Betty, he actually did this . Reporter here in hawaii, were learning more details about didnt this 16yearold boy was found in when hawaii airport officials saw him wandering around on the tarmac. They say he appeared disoriented and was also very tired. He was found with nothing but a pocket comb on him when he land. I spoke to the airport duty manager today. He said that this 16yearold boy most likely passed out for the majority of this flight. He did regain consciousness after he landed. Authorities also say that when they began questioning him, he had a hard time hearing. He eventually was able to hear a little bit better. But he was also hungry. They tell us that they bought him lunch. They served him some hawaiian cookies and water and he did gain some strength after that. But they expected him to be in worse condition. Its a miracle. You know, to survive a flight for five hours and 35,000 feet with no oxygen. It is not a temperature controlled area as well. To survive that was a miracle. It is also not immediately clear how this boy survived in an unpressurized space where temperatures can fall well below zero. The space itself is also a tight squeeze. Im a retired airline guy. I am familiar with the rear well. He was very fortunate that when the wheel went into position it didnt crush him. The boy has since been turned over to child protective services. We know that no criminal charges have been filed. We ran away from his family after an argument. We dont know at this point whether his parents will be flying here to hawaii, or whether he will take a flight back to the bay area at this point. In honolulu, im Betty Yu Kpix 5. While authorities try to figure out how he did it, kpix 5s mark sayer says one thing is clear, this was a major breach of t security on someones part. Mark. Reporter ken, tonight the fbi is saying this teenager simply jumped the fence and got onto the very first plane he found. In this post9 11 era, it does raise the question of how could this possibly happen. Hawaiian Airlines Flight 45 took off for hawaii today right on time just 24 hours after a santa clara teenager stowed away on the same flight. Airport officials, san jose police, the fbi and tsa are all now investigating the security breach. He very well may have scaled one of our fence line undercover of darkness. He remained undetected as he traveled from that fence line onto a ramp. The entire perimeter around sjc is about six miles. Most of it surrounded by razor wire fence. But in some areas, the fence is higher. In some areas, its lore. Ryan corey says while passengers endure screening inside, the security of the airport perimeter is not always top of mind. The fence is short. I guess somebody could easily get over it, even with the barbed wire. Debra agree withs. Does this shake your confidence in Airport Security at all . Little. At least the perimeters out here. Airport officials are not saying exactly where the teen jumped the fence, but points out that the Airports Security program meets all federal standards. Despite this, no system is 100 . And it is possible to scale an airport perimeter fence line, especially undercover of darkness. Reporter investigators have not provided a time line so we dont know how much time passed between when the teen jumped the fence and got into the rear well of the flight or if any time passed. Perhaps he went straightly from the fence to the plane. Those details are not being provided at this point live in san jose, im mark sayer, kpix 5. New at 6 00, one of the best provider of Health Insurance in california is finally acknowledging that its provider list has a massive number of errors on it. Julie watts first broke this story back in february. Reporter yeah. We have been reporting this for months. Anthem blue cross customers have had trouble finding doctors who will accept their insurance, insurance they bought through covered california. And now we have a better idea of the scope of the problem. The California Medical Association says anthem mistakenly listed nearly 1,000 physician as participating in its network. When in reality, they were not. More than 100 people contacted us about the problem with the provider list. Some called dozens of doctors on that list and couldnt find a single one to accept their insurance. Others said they specifically chose anthem because they saw a particular doctors name on the list only to be disappointed later. The first 300 pages of doctors they told me they do not take any covered california plans. If i wasnt going to have access to my doctor, i would have chosen a different insurance. Today, the California Medical Association revealed that anthem sent out letters to those 1,000 or so physicians who were mistakenly list as providers. The letter says anthem, quote, experienced challenges in listing the physicians in its Narrow Network exchange, ppo and eeo products and the doctors sames were, quote, inadvertently listed. They must be updated quarterly, but regulators admitted to us in an interview a couple months ago that there is currently no system in place to check. Tonight, anthem tells us it continually works to improve the accuracy of its provider directly. Thats the same thing told us back in february. Anthem says it is now more than 95 accurate, but we continue to find errors this evening. If you have a Consumer Problem or an issue with covered california or anthem, give us a calm 8885helps you. They wrote letters to the doctors saying oops, sorry, you were on this list. What about the patients wondering how do i get to my doctor . Reporter it really depends. Prior to open enrollment, we were able to switch the people to another insurer who may actually be covering their dr. Now the open enrollment is over, youre stuck until october. So it is still unclear whether anthem will step up and cover those doctors until the next open enrollment or will they have to find a new doctor. A lot of bug right now. Reporter certainly.
