We asked 500 residents the biggest problems crime and affordability were the top two and 14 said homelessness up 9 points since our last poll a year and a half ago. We need to think about the Housing Conditions of the people who are living on the sidewalks. Thats not acceptable. Homelessness is a county respond and the mayor said the city of oklahoma has a task force thats in partnership with Alameda County to provide service to oaklands most vulnerable citizens but house something the citys issue which means getting those people off the street and into a safe affordable home is her responsibility. Not the countys. Then the city works very hard to transition these people and they have to do it voluntarily into our Transitional Housing Center thats set up in a Navigation Center style. San francisco is not perfect but it is a city and a county. Theyre very fortunate in that theyre able to meld and blend their resources as well as their operations. Thats a luxury oakland doesnt have. Reporter mayor schaaf says there needs to be more safe options that are affordable but she also needs to take care of tenants who are already living in poor conditions. With the bond money that passed last fall, her plan is to buy existing homes, fix them and bring permanent Affordable Housing protections to those who already live there. Three people were killed in a shooting rampage in fresno. The suspect shouted allahu akbar, god is great in ara big, while he was killing three men. They were all killed in the downtown area. This man was arrested 39year old Kori Ali Muhammed a homeless man with a criminal record that includes drug and weapons charges. Police say the victims were chosen at random and had no apparent connection to the gunman. One was a pg e worker sitting in his truck. Another a man carrying groceries into his home. A third was in the parking lot of the catholic charities. Police found a possible motive online. We looked at his facebook. We know that he has some posts that says that he does not like white people. All the victims today were white men. The chief says they believe muhammed acted alone. Police have been looking for him since last week when he is also believed to have shot and killed a Security Guard at motel 6. A live look right now at a press conference. Police say a mcdonalds employee recognized 37yearold Steve Stephens when he stopped for food in erie county, pennsylvania. When Police Arrived a short chase began. Officials were able to ram stephens car causing it to spin and stop. As officers approached the vehicle, they say he shot himself. Stephens had been on the run since posting a video showing him shooting 74yearold robert godwin, senior. You left my kids without a father. One of his daughters also said that she wishes stephens had been captured and could face his crime. A former assemblyman requested a review last year and says the findings are worse than he thought. Reporter a year and a half after killing two people the trio of drifters convicted of doing that now learned their fate in court. Lila alligood, Morrison Lampley and sean angold in october of 2015 murdered audrey carey in golden gate park. They then crossed the Golden Gate Bridge and killed steve carter on a trail in fairfax. They listened today to four victims statements including carters widow who was undergoing Cancer Treatment at the time her husband was murdered. The rage, fury, anger, the pain and the grief, the unbearable despair and the disgust that i feel in my body for those three killers in this room today. Reporter Morrison Lampley will serve a minimum of 100 years to life without parole. Lyle little will serve 50 but may be eligible for parole after 25, Lila Alligood was only 18 at the time of the crime. Sean angold, though, believed to be the ringleader of the group, will only serve a minimum of 15 years. He could be out earlier on parole thanks to the plea deal he cut with the prosecution to testify against the other two. As a result, he made a decision to himself that he was not going to go to jail for shooting a Security Guard, that he was going to kill as many people as he could today and thats what he set out to do. Kori muhammed did shave his braids from his head two days ago and also had shaved his face and was a much different appearance than he was on the night of the april 13th and would probably not have been recognizable based on the photo we had sent out. We have a total of more than 20 witnesses that we have interviewed today and there are additional individuals that we will be attempting to locate, people that did not necessarily see the shooting but may have heard something. And again, we are in the process of attempting to locate them. We also learned that the reason that suspect Kori Ali Muhammed was in the area in which i was and prior to the shootings, he knew that there were several abandoned houses in the area and that he was hoping to stay at one of the locations. Again, im not certain as to whether or not he did stay at those locations but thats the information that he did have. Kori ali muhammed is 39 years of age. He has been arrested. Money bail is a target because it targets poor people, people of color, and it puts us in a position where we cannot fight our cases. The california bill would change that eliminating the bail requirement for nonviolent offenders. Thats unless a judge determined theres a risk to Public Safety. Opponents of the bill say its similar to a new jersey plan where there have been reports of offenders committing crimes while out on free bail. Opponents say it would harm victims rights.
