Reporter thats right. Big questions in a story like this is who knew what and when. And thats still a very cloudy question in oakland when in comes to fire inspections of the ghost ship warehouse. In the last 24 hours insiders of the department have told various news outlets that one of the reasons the city hall is having such a tough time finding out how inspections went at the warehouse is because they cant find it on the database. When we asked oakland mayor libby schaaf about the questions about is she concerned about the lack of response so far, this is what she had to say. Phil, i do not know the answer to that question and i dont need to know the answer to that question to tell you that we can improve our fire inspection and prevention process. Reporter we have learned the questions are whether or not this warehouse was actually on the database even to be checked. They didnt even have an active fire marshal until last year. The chief was in charge of that. Also another trend in there. It turns out that were also hearing from insiders that what they were doing was going out and targeting Small Businesses for annual inspections. In other words, if they knew somebody was there and they could get the 181 check they would go and check for 10 minutes, check for 10 minutes. They were making more money and buildings like this that were left on the sidelines, possibly more [ simultaneous speakers where is the blame . Is it the budget . Is it the budgeting .
