He lived in hollister with his wife and two young sons. The crash happened while he was on routine patrol yesterday. He was on his motorcycle heading northbound on 10th street near horning when a silver minivan suddenly turned left right in front of him. Katherman could not stop in time, hit the minivan head on. Devin. Reporter yeah. The owners want to shut this place down, demolish it, and likely sometime in the future sell it to developers. As you mentioned, the countys Housing Authority has now stepped in and vowed to use every weapon in their legal arsenal including Eminent Domain to protect this pocket of Affordable Housing. Reporter Santa Clara County and the city of palo alto announced today that they would be partnering with the copilot Housing Authority to try to convince and if necessary to force the owners to sell. It would be a blow to this city if we cant solve this if we cant figure out a way to keep these people here. Reporter the city and county have pledged a total of 29 million to buy the park. At the head of the Housing Authority, she says she is prepared to use Eminent Domain to force a sale if negotiations fail. But an attorney for the owner says his clients wont be bullied and he describes the threat of Eminent Domain as shockingly immoral and unconstitutional. He writes, no one should have their land taken from them simply because a government bureaucrat even a coalition of them thinks that they can put it to better use. Despite todays announcement, clearly the tug of war over buena vista and the fate of Affordable Housing in palo alto is far from decided. Everybody, the city, the county and the Housing Authority, are committed to making sure the owner gets full fair market value for the property. Reporter now, county and city leaders seem to believe that the addition of the Housing Authority would tip the scales in their favor but like so many developments and twists and turns in this case and story, few have proven to be decisive. And the in the meantime until all of this and in the meantime, until all of this is resolved, the residents stay. Devin fehely, kpix 5. Reporter schaaf, however, who is in the middle of a sex scandal with Police Officers and a teenaged prostitute said she had no choice. We are dealing with disgusting allegations that upset me greatly and i believe that the leadership at this time is critical in order to build confidence that the culture of this department does not tolerate unethical behavior, sexual misconduct, or lying. These things are very important to me. Reporter to date, five oakland officer have left the department or been suspended. Officers from other agencies are involved, as well. Ten stops forward and 3,000 steps backwards. The chiefs exit comes just as civil rights lawyers are calling for an audit of the departments hiring and training as well.
