Now, we spoke to one woman who works at a restaurant here and she says without the bad weather, she sees at least one accident a week. A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for areas devastated by septembers fire in lake county. Forecasters say at times rain could exceed a half inch an hour. Reporter this is a war of words between the sheriff and former judge Ladoris Cordell in legal and Law Enforcement circles. They are two titans, one the head of the jail system and the sheriffs department, the other a former Police Auditor and the current head of the commission whose job it is to reform that jail system. Now, it was a brawl inside of the jail this week. A fight between several inmates that has somehow ignited a war of words between sheriff laurie smith and retired judge Ladoris Cordell. Sheriff smith took exception to judge cordells statements to the media that it seems strange that the two rival groups responsible for this fight were allowed to mix inside the jail. Sheriff smith took that to mean that the judge believed that that fight was somehow staged or a political stunt. Sheriff smith wrote a scathing email expressing her outrage that judge cordell would accuse her or her deputies of a crime. Im an elected official and i understand that people are going to take shots at me. But to accuse our deputies of actually committing a crime staging a fight, thats what i have been getting from the media, that was what was portrayed to the media, and thats why the letter was sent. Reporter judge cordell wrote her own email in response saying in part it is amazing to me that you have completely misinterpreted my twosentence statement in that interview. I am amazed at your level of defensiveness. Now, she also went on to say that she never accused the sheriff or anyone of engaging in criminal conduct of the sheriff also filed a Public Information request for all emails and letters from judge cordell and members of that commission. She says she believes judge cordell has an agenda. The judge says her agenda is reforming the jail system and believes that the sheriffs letter and her accusations are nothing more than a distraction. In san jose, devin fehely, kpix 5. City manager Julio Fuentes announcing his resignation after three years but will stay on until the end of may. His resignation comes amid a grand jury investigation into leave finances and his own claims he has been discriminated against because he is latino. Oakland police chief sean whent says oakland is getting safer. Im really encouraged by the progress but it doesnt mean were where we want to be. There are still too many murders. Robberies are down significantly but way too many people are still getting robbed. Reporter robberies 18 lower. Burglaries down 46 . Im very pleased that this department is working on all cylinders as we have been able to replenish the resources and add more Police Officers on the street. Reporter so whats changed . The police chief says he has moved away from the 100block crimefighting plan. We are just more focused in how we do things and so its not hot spot policing. Its more hot people policing. Which groups and gangs are currently the most active in driving the Violent Crimes focus our he was on that. Reporter the new strategy of targeting known criminals is part of operation ceasefire. The chief also points to prevention. Their Successful Partnership with schools, nonprofits and churches. Bob jackson gave this reaction when he saw the Crime Reduction numbers. Bart is trying to figure out why trains are losing power while traveling in the transbay tube. The Transit Agency says 80 bart cars experienced power problems this week. Workers suspect issue might be linked to a substation at the west oakland bart stop. Bart says it is not uncommon for a few cars to lose power every day. But it became a major issue when it started happening to dozens of trains traveling eastbound. We dont know what caused it. Just taking that substation offline has solved the problem temporarily. Bart hopes to have 60 of those 80 trains that experienced power losses back in service by monday. The force of a deadly crash in san jose sent vehicles spinning all across the roadway. Not clear who had the right of way. Rescue workers dove in to save the woman. Crews had to use a winch to pull the car out. Police believe she was intoxicated when she crashed. Six ships from china will start docking at the port of oakland. The wall street journal is report, the megaships will be on a regular Service Rotation between asia and california. Well, two members of Congress Want the federal government to step in and help bay area crabbers. Representatives jackie conspire and Jared Huffman announced legislation today dubbed the crab emergency Disaster Assistance act. It would provide 138 million in Disaster Relief to the crab industry. Commercial crab season was suspended after crabs started testing positive for a toxin caused by algae bloom. There will be a process, a commission, where those who have sustained damages will submit claims and they will hopefully in an expeditious manner be able to get compensated from a that. Reporter state Officials Say the impact of this years crab disaster has resulted in an estimated 48 million in losses to the industry.
