Kpix 5s don ford on what we know so far. Reporter just after noon a passing driver noticed a man lying in the ditch near the old Concord Naval weapons station storage bunkers. But when she stopped to help. He was dead. Reporter Concord Police and fire responded and confirmed the man was dead. A detailed investigation involving homicide and traffic investigators is trying to understand just what happened here. But police say an autopsy will be needed to know how he died. Its still unclear what happened, whether this is a hit andrun or whether this was just a suspicious death where there is a body down in the roadway. Tripledigit heat has firefighters in Northern California on high alert. In san jose, a brush fire came just feet away from taking over a baseball field at yerba buena high school. Chopper 5 was over the scene this afternoon. Firefighters were able to keep that fire to it under 2 acres. The fire broke out in thick brush near a homeless encampment. The schools locked gates made it difficult for finances to get access to the scene. Once they arrived, they were able to quickly douse the flames. This video from chopper 5 was taken just a short time ago. Towers of smoke filled the sky as the wildfire continues to burn out of control. That haze almost made it impossible for chopper 5 to get to the fire lines. You can see where flames have scorched the hillsides leaving behind debris and ash. And this fire has claimed the life of bulldozer operator, killed while fighting the flames. Officials say he was operating a tractor when it overturned sometime last night. So far, the fire has burned more than 23,000 acres since last friday. It is now just 10 contained. The blaze is threatening nearly 2,000 homes. But the marine layer is so shallow and that push inland is so weak, youre not feeling it in walnut creek.
