The crowd marched up University Avenue and staged this die in at the emerson street intersection. One protester said they were there to express a collective sadness over crushing inhe equal tis. Lawyers for Michael Browns family slammed the grand jurys decision saying the process itself should be indicted. We object publicly and loudly as we can on behalf of Michael Brown, jr. s family that this process is broken. Attorneys also criticized the prosecutor, Robert Mccullough. They charged he has ties to Law Enforcement and point out his policeman father was killed by a black man. Rev. Al sharpton said mccullough went out of his way to discredit brown. Ive never seen a prosecutor hold a press conference to discredit the victim. Browns father didnt speak but stood by his attorneys wearing a no justice no peace t shirt. Tonight the officer who shot and killed Michael Brown is breaking his silence in a Television Interview Darren Wilson said he was sore for the loss of life but his conscience is clear. He said he was in fear for his life and did what he was trained to do. He also said if Michael Brown had been white it wouldnt have changed anything. Rarely is testimony and evidence presented to a grand jury made public, but in an apparent move towards transparency prosecutor Robert Mccullough did just that. Were hearing what was presented by 60 witnesses over 25 days. In his four hours of testimony officer Darren Wilson told the grand jury his version of the confrontation with 18 yearold Michael Brown saying, never at any point did i have control of him. Testimony also shows that some witnesses, including one identified as witness 14, who was sympathetic to Michael Brown at first telling investigators brown was executed by police. But before the grand jury witness 14 testified brown was moving toward officer wilson who was screaming stop as he fired his weapon. Several witnesses stated mr. Brown did not raise his hands at all or that he raised them briefly. Reporter wife of new York Police Commissioner said several witnesses changed their account of what happened. Witnesses who said they were eyewitnesses said Michael Brown had been shot many times in the back many of them saying wilson was standing over him shooting him in the back. When the autopsy leaked they changed their testimony. Reporter the Justice Department is still investigating this case and investigating whether Michael Browns civil rights were violated. Its also looking into the Ferguson Police department for patterns of discrimination. Browns family could also file a wrongful death lawsuit against wilson. Nancy pelosi said shes disappointed not to indict officer will so. She said theres a clear sense of discontent. They have a long life ahead and this is not the life they want to lead. Roads going into ferguson like the one behind us here are closed, and so far weve not seen very many demonstrators. There are some young people Walking Around here walking into ferguson, but so far it has been very quiet. It was calm more or less today as well. Police used that time to regroup and prepare for this evening. Some state officials saying things like we will do better tonight. Certainly the 2200 National Guard are a big part of the efforts to keep the peace. It remains tense as people are certainly on edge after what happened last night. Chris, weve been talking about possibly enforcing a curfew in ferguson the National Guard is going to do that. Judging by the amount of people that were on the streets last night, how are they going to enforce that . Are they going to make arrests . Reporter well, liz already in fact parts of the greater st. Louis area curfews are in effect for 17 years and younger. State officials have said that they will keep the peace tonight that they have enough police, enough National Guard to do so. They certainly are willing to make arrests. They made more than 80 last night. But the hope is all of the stepped up police presence, the National Guard, the road closures and just the passing of 24 hours will mean smaller crowds and hopefully no need to make any arrests. Tonight weve learned the Bay Area School never even called 911 and thats not the only serious violation. Reporter the state inspector was here for most of the afternoon inside the school looking through this case. He released a report. In it he says the school never called 911. It was the mother of the threeyearold who were badly injured who came to school realized her daughter needed medical attention and called emergency services. That was 45 minutes after the incident. I also spoke with the chief city inspector and she told me there are a number of Code Violations inside. Before school got out fremont Code Enforcement team was posting notices at the preschool. The children ages 2 to 6 are not allowed back in until structural fixes are made. Its very serious. I was quite disturbed when i saw the report of what happened. Reporter friday afternoon a wall cabinet like this one fell on two sleeping children. A little boy had minor injuries, but a 3yearold girl had a significant traumatic injury and was airlifted to stand ford. Code enforcement said the cabinet wasnt properly mounted to the wall. They had too much weight and it appears thats what caused it to fall over. Reporter parents of the pie link wall school was reluctant to talk. This mother said she hoped repairs are made.
