Crews battling the mount diablo fire say although most of the flames are out, hot spots are still a big concern. Heres what we know. The fire is 45 contained. Flames are scorched more than 3200 acres and 75 homes are threatened. The fire broke out sunday afternoon along Morgan Territory road south of clayton. Evacuations are still in place for people in these neighborhoods. Ryan takeo is on the scene where flareups are forcing people to stay away. Ryan. Crews evacuated her sunday from her clayton area home. She came back yesterday to see the flames flaring up. The whole sky was bright red. Last night my neighbor said look outside. I looked out on my deck and its kind of like looking over here and theres a wall of fire coming up. Reporter firefighters worry winds would whip the flames and ignite embers in the trees like last night. What happened there was the one thing that were worried about today as well is the winds change in the evening time. Im very surprised and grateful. We really, really dodged a bullet up here. Reporter there was still plenty of damage but most will to brush, no home damage. Look how close the fire came to this homes deck . Really in this kind of environment, its amazing that they were able to control it. Reporter she did not think her home would be standing or that she would be here to tell her story. So this is the season when these fires could really pose a threat. Right now things look better at mount diablo. The winds just out of the east southeast at 3 miles an hour. The temperature is 79 degrees. This is all improved because of a big buildup of low clouds along the shoreline that cooled everybody today. Numbers fell as much as 25 degrees in parts of the bay area just under the influence of that marine layer and that has got to help. It will continue to do that. He was having agonal breathing which is labored, uhm, breathing that is, uhm, reflexive in nature, not effective breathing, which is typical of somebody thats having a cardiac event. He grabbed one of the airports nearby defibrillators and went to work alternating between using the tools electric shock, chest compression and cpr and brought nunez back after 4 minutes. I was thrilled that the training i had was able to help somebody. Reporter nunez suffered a kind of heart spasm called an arrhythmia. Lucky for him everything and everyone was in the right place at the right time. Just the Perfect Moment for Something Like that to happen. Right now the Richmond City council is meeting to consider scrapping a plan that could help struggling homeowners. City leaders have proposed teaming up with a San Francisco Investment Firm to buy more than 600 underwater mortgages. So far no banks have agreed to sell the mortgages. The city has said it could use Eminent Domain to force the banks to still. The mayor supports the program but the vice mayor warns it could hurt city finances. In San Francisco, supervisor david campos wants the board to go on record as supporting richmonds plan. He wants San Francisco to considering buying those mortgages. He says 58 homeowners in his district alone are at risk of foreclosure. I think the city has the responsibility to at least explore what that looks like. And 78 in san jose. 66, though, in santa rosa. Temperatures fell like a set of car keys today throughout the bay area. If you are heading out tonight, though, it will be clear and mild inland but along the shoreline bundle up 64 degrees with clouds and fog. If you are going to see the giants playing the rockies it will be cool and breezy at 7 15 with the temperature game time of 58 degrees. Tomorrow afternoon, really it doesnt look that bad. Along the shoreline we have some low clouds, but around the bay mid70s and inland low 80s. Heres how it looks. Temperatures will cool dramatically with a below average temperature through midweek and a weekend warming trend on tap. So first well lose a few points and then well gain a few points as we get toward thursday and friday. Big chill in the bay area though. San franciscos high yesterday was 68. Concord was up to 9. Livermore 102. Thats yesterday. Look at how much the temperatures fell today. Livermore managed only 83 degrees as of 4 00. Concord 24 degree cooler. Santa rosa in one day fell 28 degrees. Thats equivalent to like a cold front moving through the midwest but for us all we need is a thicker marine layer and that helps the fire conditions throughout the bay area. This can be the time of the year when we pick up the real problem of fire danger, although that mill valley fire that i mentioned back in 1929 actually helped around the 4th of july so that was in the early part of july but boy, ill tell you, october and september, not good months for the fire season in the bay area. Heading out of sfo tomorrow morning clouds, westerlies to 25 miles an hour and yup, thunderstorms in denver and 68. Probably a little bit of hail, too. Back in the bay area we are going to be looking at highs tomorrow that are cooler than weve seen over the weekend. 80 san jose. 83 los altos. 82 milpitas. Out in the east bay the numbers mostly in the low 80s. 85 degrees at antioch and 87 at livermore. Up in the north bay, fog and low clouds tomorrow morning and then just 74 at petaluma and 72 in san leandro. Far north ukiah 88 degrees. Extended forecast well cool it down the next few days and then as we get toward friday and saturday, well warm it up again.
