Use caution there. Along highway 4 so far, so good westbound through antioch into pittsburg. No delays towards 680. If you are traveling towards the eastshore freeway drive, its clear between the carquinez bridge and the maze. 19 minutes to get to the bay bridge, where the metering lights are off. And while we are getting a brief break in the wet weather right now, it was coming down hard in much of the bay area last night. The rain was pelting downtown san jose which received close to an inch of rain. Kpix 5s jackie ward joins us live from pacifica where people have been experiencing big waves. Reporter michelle, the waves are still childrenning and roaring here this morning churning and roaring here this morning after our stormy week. People are on high alert with the high surf and big waves. Whoa reporter in pacifica this driver may have been better off keeping his car door closed. High surf shut down the pier as strong waves beat and crashed on the walkways. The high surf is expected to last until 2 p. M. Today with extreme waves as high as 20 feet and oh, yeah, we have seen them thats for sure. But the rains didnt keep curious people away from the beach. I love being out here in the storms and the waves. I think its great. Its exhilarating. I literally just keep coming out here because im in awe of it. Reporter its one thing to watch the chaos of the storm. Its another if you have to drive through it. In Pleasant Hill last night, a police car got into a cash with a subaru and it appears that the subaru got the worst of the damage. We saw at least one person being taken to the hospital. No word on who was injured or the extent of those injuries. Now, dont let this mornings skies fool you. Theres plenty of standing water and puddles on the roads. Definitely some slick spots. This week parts of Southern California are also experiencing impact of el nino. Heavy rains, strong winds yesterday uprooting trees in the san diego area sending limbs into homes. Many drivers had to be rescued from their cars on roads that looked more like rivers. Take a look at that. The deluge saturated hillsides triggering mud slides that spilled on the highway. You can drive along and drive right into it and all of a sudden youre up to your windshield in mud. The threat of more mud slides has forced people some elderly and disabled to evacuate. More rain is expected in parts of Southern California this morning as well as over the weekend. Now, the system has also brought more snow to californias higher elevations. And thats great news for people that like to have fun and good news for the snowpack, which is critical, of course, to our water supply. An arrest warrant is out for a man suspected of killing his father in san jose. 30yearold [ nonenglish language ] s whereabouts are unknown.
