crashed. >> we saw everything. the boat, it was a conductor, we were zapped. >> felt like a lot of heat on the head, pressure on the head. you know, eyes blurry a little bit. >> wow. a 57-year-old man was hit on a golf course on catalina island. he is in the hospital tonight. it happened because of an unusual line of thunderstorms that moved through the southland. the kpix high-definition shows a band of storms moving mostly off shore to the north and east. some of those over the channel islands of santa barbara, subtropical moisture, all heading our way. but, by the time it gets this far north, much of the punch is gone. we stand only a slight chance of thunderstorms here in the bay area over the next 24 hours. we will have your forecast in just a few minutes. well, a wildfire in gold country is still threatening hundreds of homes tonights. the fire burned 3800 acres since it began on friday. it has destroyed 10 houses and seven other buildings. people have been evacuated from more than 500 homes, cal fire says the fire was sparked by a car that drove over a brush. >> the fire is 45 miles east of sacramento. along highway 49. it is burning in el dorado counties, they say it is 35% contained. a wildfire outside of yosemite national park, out of control tonight. the fire is at 2100 acres and growing. one structure has been destroyed. several others are threatened. the flames forced people to evacuate from three campgrounds at the paramedic. the fire is just south of rim fire. it is threatening homes, a stretch of highway 140 it is closed as you know, one of the roads that leads into the park. an apartment fire in richmond early this morning forced two families out of their homes. this was the scene on mcbride avenue. this two story complex up in flames, heavy smoke pouring out of the windows, two people were taken to the hospital with burns. firefighters say it could have been worse if it was not for a brave tenant who stayed behind to warn neighbors. >> they heard someone beating on the wall and that alerted them to help with the escape. i don't know if we would of had a fatality for that. >> the red cross is helping the families displaced. the cause of the fire, not known. anyone who saw anything suspicious before this carport fire in mountain view is asked to come forward. one person was injured in the two-alarm fire yesterday afternoon. firefighters arrived they found several cars on fire. seven cars were destroyed, five more damaged. the cause of it this fire, not yet no one. thousands of people packed san francisco streets this morning for the annual marathon. nothing like the beta breakers, this event attracted more competitive runners, it is a qualifier for the boston marathon. they wound up near the waterfront near the bay bridge. the winner of the men's race was august from reno. his first marathon win and a woman from berkeley won the women's race this year and last year. more than 25,000 people ran in the race today. for seven runners this marathon was something extra special. this group is from gaza. they say running a marathon in their home country is nearly impossible with a number of security checkpoints so, they launched a group called right to movement. it is 300 members strong. their goal is for people everywhere to be able to run and move however they wish. >> our goal is running for freedom. showing the world that we are people who want freedom and want our life to move without any limitations or obstacles. there is no cease-fire tonight between israelis and hamas. israeli security forces are dealing with another threat, this one, miles away from gaza. >> reporter: israeli tanks fired at targets in gaza on sunday and hamas rockets are still landing in southern israel. despite talks from both sides of a cease-fire. israel's prime minister blamed hamas on "face the nation". >> they floated the cease-fire proposal and they violated their own cease-fire. they are firing at us as we speak. >> reporter: hamas says they resumed firing because of a lack of commitment from israel. until recently most of the unrest centered on the israeli gaza border. on sunday, israeli security arrested a palestinian man at a west bank checkpoint, miles away from gaza. >> israeli police say they stopped a car bomb from coming into israel at a checkpoint over my shoulder. now, the authorities set up a roadblock to stop the traffic from going there so they can blow up a car. >> there was a large number of gas canisters, prepared with explosive device. [singing] >> reporter: on sunday, a funeral was held in gaza for a christian woman killed by an israeli air strike. in almost three weeks of fighting more than 1,000 palestinians have been killed and at least 46 israelis have died. back to you. a fierce firefight is going on in libya for control of the airport. the bat battle is pinning them against each other. the u.s. closed their embassy there. the fighting husband been going on for weeks and told dozens of people that the airport shutdown and it is the prize target for the group. the latest virus outbreak in africa is taking a toll on doctors. two americans have contracted ebola. >> some homeowners say no way to low income housing. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,, concordia arrived off the northern italian city of gea today... two and a half years after e cruise liner ran aground and sank near the tuscan islandf giglio. 32 people died in t disaster. the ship's 200 mie 2-1/2 years after a cruise liner sank concordia was docked. the ship's 200 mile final trip was the most complex salvages ever attempted. italy's prime minister called it a point of pride for italians that view the disaster as a public humiliation and a tragedy. the ship will be dismantled for scrap. two american have been diagnosed with a deadly ebola. a doctor from texas was the first to reportedly have the disease. he was on a charity expedition working with patients effected by the virus. now, a second case, a woman employed by an aid organization, married mother of two. they say the outbreak in liberia is the largest ever reported killing 670 people so far. well, back here in the bay area, fighting is about to begin. tomorrow, marin county will hold the first of three public hearings on low income housing. the classic case of not in my backyard. mark kelly explains the county has to convince homeowners that low income housing is a good thing. >> reporter: a quiet corner of the county, a possible site for low income housing. >> three things about the proposal that really bother me. >> reporter: john is a marin county homeowner. he is not against low income housing but he does worry building housing of any kind will mean more people, over crowded schools and more traffic. >> on a saturday it is just stop and go. that is not contributing anything to air quality or quality of life. >> traffic is a concern in mari n in general. it across the bay area. but the numbers we are talking about is minimal. >> reporter: her team designated 87 out of 195 parsals for low income housing. she hopes to calm fears, all 87 parsals, she says, will not get developed overnight. >> what we are doing is saying here are some parsals, here is some land that has the developmental potential, the zone that it could have additional housing. >> reporter: but she says do not accommodate any additional housing, instead, legalize in- law or second units. >> i think if there is a government man -- mandated number of low income housing we got that it is just underground f they would fast track second units we would have the numbers that is necessary. >> reporter: monday's hearing is the entire county's chance to weigh in. >> folks can take a tour of existing affordable housing residents and it does fit in. most people don't know it is there in their communities. >> the data shows low income housing does not hurt the community's character or knock home prices down. anyone who owns the pet knows the terror it feels when it gets lost. coming up, a new way to find your pet using your cell phone. seeing if the shocking weather down south is heading our way, stay tuned ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, tomorrow night because of wt nile virus. most of the spraying will te place in hillsborough. the sprayi spraying for mosquitoes tomorrow night because of west nile virus. most of the spraying will be in hillsboro. 9:00 at night and wrap up at 5:00. the control says the spray is safe, people don't need to take precautions. the officials noticed a spike of mosquitoes in the area testing positive for the deadly virus. if your dog runs off and you want to track him down you can use your cell phone. finding rover. >> reporter: people and come from all over to enjoy the dog park. all dog owners have one thing in common. the fear of losing their dogs. now, there is an app for that called finding rover. >> it is almost like -- if you want to use it, crowd sourcing, anyone with a phone, anybody with the app, all free, don't charge anything, can take a picture and identify an animal and save it. >> the web site uses facial recognition software developed for law enforcement. but now adapted for dogs. you upload a photo of your lost dog or a photo of a dog you found and it matches it. >> reporter: does it really work? a hurricane. this is a hurricane, it formed in the last 6 hours, it formed, it is at a minimal hurricane. what is coming up is high clouds that are floating in. it is juicing up the atmosphere. some of that tropical moisture was responsible for the lightning strikes we had down south at venice beach. 14 people in the southland were struck by lightning this afternoon. first, we got a slight thunderstorm chance, the clouds go up, there is still a chance. we will stay mild along the shoreline all week. we will stay warm inland all week. the future cast looks like this, high clouds off shore. they will move in over the next couple of hours. tomorrow morning, dawn it is sunny. the day goes on, you can see some of the high clouds floating up from down south and because of that, especially in the south bay, look at san jose in morgan hill. cloudy by tomorrow evening. the potential, maybe, but a small one for a shower or thundershower down south. mid90s again inland. cooling trend next week in the inland area. it is warm, 99 for sacramento, 102 at fresno. overnight lows tonight, near 60 degrees. day time highs, on par with where we were today. 85 at santa clara, 94. 91 at concord, livermore, 95 degrees, north bay, we will be looking at numbers 83 degrees, 79 degrees, here in the city, 69. 77 over in san leandro. 101 at lake port. forecast, steady as she goes, the numbers in the middle 90s inland all of the way throughed with. a slight chance of a thunderstorm tomorrow. favoring the south bay. the week goes on, sun comes out, the temperatures cooled the latter half of the week. not dramatic. it is late july. it gets to be 90s inland, it will be this week, ann?
