gas-powered cars by the year 2035. a giant step in the nation's transition to electric vehicles. many already know the benefits. >> for you what was the drivingr getting an ev? >> price of gas. >> reporter: governor newsom announced the plan in 2020. >> we can't get there unless we accelerate our efforts in the transportation sector. >> reporter: on thursday, the california air resources board voted to approve the policy which would dramatically lower s and air pollutants. >> we have the opportunity to accelerate those plans and soliy them into law. >> reporter: that huge increase in electric vehicles means california needs a lot more charging stations. the state has has about 80,000 and wants to triple that number in the next three years. auto makers will have to increase production of electric vehicles to meet the demand and find ways to lower prices but energy experts say the policy could be a game changer. >> the main impact is when california demonstrates these sorts of things can be done without damaging the economy. so economy. so other states and countries will take the same path. >> reporter: some drivers have mixed feelings about making the switch. >> more and more cars will makey cost more money. >> reporter: the new rule will require federal approval but that is considered likely from the biden administration. > >> developing news now, it is sentencing day for san francisco's former public works director mohammed nuru. anne mac following the latest. >> reporter: yes, he is now in the courtroom. he has not been sentenced yet. this is after he pled guilty to wire fraud. this is him arriving at the federal courthouse in the city earlier today. federal prosecutors asking for a prison sentence of at least nine years for nuru. ty also want three years of supervd release and a $35,000 fine. the defense is pushing for a three-year sentence instead, along with him. nuru is accused of accepting bribes and kickbacks in exchange for favorable treatment on city contract. he is just part of the the city hall corruption scandal. a dozen other people have been named including current san francisco mayor london breed. she has not been charged with any crime, but she has admitted to accepting gifts from nuru including him helping her pay for her car. we will keep an eye on the sentencing. >> thank you very much. > >> we know you will stay ae asking. > >> city of san jose just got moe than $50 million in its effort to help the unhoused. the city and its development partner areg forward with a 204 unit interim housing project. it will be built on the northwest corner of of branon lane and monterrey road. it is part of the state's home key program to transition the unsheltered to permanent housing. >> the 200 or so residents that will be housed in this project, we should all be grateful. we know these projects work and they are an asset to the neighbs they reside in. >> big goals to get people out of these tents. they want to construct a thousand housing units and do it soon. governor gavin newsom says the bay area will get $226 million in grants to fund supportive housing units units and $700 million will be given out for projecting to help help the people who have no homes. > >> senator alex pedia is advocating for more vaccine for monkeypox. >> while we see the great work f folks here in san francisco, i want to be clear. that the federal government needs to do more, and must do more quickly. >> so, he stopped by a vaccination site in san francisco this morning for this messaging. he was one of the first senators to call on health health and human services and the cdc for additional monkeypox monkeypox vaccines in the statee urged the feds to provide at least 600,000 additional doses to california. the number of reported monkeypox cases went down worldwide, 25% last week. a week. a big sign the vaccines ae getting out there. > >> one day after president biden biden revealed his student loan are more as fans if attendance than yankees fans. ts drop off quickly as the marine air makes its way across the bay bay through the rest of tonightt shows pushing well inland by early tomorrow morning. we will see coastal drizzle. further inland, that fog and low cloud cover is not going to last longp to around the bay afternoon ere rmte sunshine is the most you can hope for. temperatures dropping to the mid to upper 50s to around 60 degrees in most locations. a very normal looking looking temperature map. high temperatures on friday, everybody within a degree or two two of average once again. but maybe a couple of spots a degree degree or two warmer. just another typical late august dayw to mid 60s along the coast. don the peninsula, santa clara vall, right at 84 degrees in san joses inland. mid to upper 80s to around 90 degrees which is warmt it is definitely warm. upper 60s 60s , a mix of upper 60s and low to mid 70s for oakland in the east bay. temperatures in the lower half half of the 80s until you go much further inland. temperatures likely to t up into the 90s inland mendocino county and most of lake county. further down the line, beyond the seven day fore, the eight to 14 day outlook continues to show a significant chance of above average temperatures the first week or so of september including labor day weekend. if this pattern sets up, it might be accompanied accompanied by offshore winds across the bay area. it is not something you should be worried about. let us do that. temperats cooler than average over the weekend. enjoy that. temperaturs in san jose, only reaching the upper 70s . that is great for late august. mid 60s in san francisco. around 60 along the coast. warm spots only reaching low to mid 80s this weekend. ts should be a
