Live from the cbs bay area studios, this is kpix5 new. This Bay Area Office park turned into a terrifying crime scene after a gunman chased an employee and opened fire. One of them made it out alife. Im elizabeth cook. Im ken bastida. Betty yu is at the scene of the frantic chase. Reporter the exhusband showed up at her workplace and started chasing her around the parking lot with a gun in hand. When she refused to talk to him. A man who showed up at his ex wifes office is dead after police say the 43yearold shot himself in the face. When Police Arrived at the complex, they found the woman hiding but unharmed. The suspect then took off running away from the police. The police pursued him knowing the pertinent facts that he had a restraining order again him for Domestic Violence and he had weapons registered to him. Reporter the exhusband had been driving this pickup truck. Police tried to get him to surrender but when he brandish a gun at the top, there was an exchange of gun tire. One officer opened fire. He had already turned the gun on himself. The violence caps off a series of disturbing events that began earlier this month. Police arrested him on an unrelated charge following a low level domestic dispute. We had another incident involveing the two parties involved in this incident. The wife and her exhusband where the exhusband is believed to have broken into her house and caused a ruckus there with her presence. Tonight, Lafayette Police say a robber beat a man and his home, kidnapped him and forced him to withdraw money from the bank. Police say the suspect drove the victim to this chase bank. Then the victim told the bank tellers he had been kidnapped and threatened. The employees called the police and officers were able to arrest the suspect at the scene. Tonight, 26yearold manuel gustos faces charges of kidnapping and robbery. A San Francisco teacher is on administrative leave after he bragged about hitting students. Reporter the three deputies were dressed in suits and sat silently as the prosecutor outlined his case describing how they allegedly beat mentally ill inmate Michael Tyrie to death. Matt breaker said the case was about power and the abuse of trial. That the three suspects beat tyrie so violently it ruptured his spleen and liver causing him to bleed to death in his cell. It is not a homicide case. Reporter but in their hoping statements, the coroner and sheriff jumped to conclusions the defense said. It is either accidental death or a suicide. The three Defense Attorneys introduced the theory that tyrie was alive when the deputies left his cell on the night he died an he fell on the cell sink. There is no Surveillance Video of the incident, only shots of the deputies coming and going into the pod where he died but prosecutors gave a preview of their messages brag about previous beatings of mentally ill inmates.
