First there was a fire, then a hazmat scare. It was an rv that caught fire on 101 northbound in san carlos approaching holly street. Kpix5s sharon chin on the four hour traffic nightmare. Ly street. Be reporter instagram flooded with video and photos around 4 30 this afternoon when the chp said a couple driving an rv pulled over going northbound on highway 101 south of holly street because there was a fire in their rv. The elderly man and woman got out of the vehicle with their dogs before the entire rv was gutted. Highway 101 was closed both directions from holly south to woodside during the evening commute. Emergency crews had to shelter in place in the immediate area fearing explosions from what was inside the rv. There was a 105pound tank of propane inside the vehicle that was probably halfway used. So were dealing with about 50 pounds of propane and also they mentioned there was some hobby rockets inside the vehicle. So there were some explosions. We believe those might have been the rockets. We dont know yet. Reporter the southbound lanes reopened about 6 30 and two northbound lanes reopened an hour later, but many frustrated drivers had already been stuck in traffic a while by the time we caught up with them on the deter route along el camino real. Francisco. A little earlier today a different part of 101 and interstate 80 shut down about 90 minutes because of a bomb scare in San Francisco. It backed up traffic all the way across the bay bridge. Someone spotted a note on this white sedan saying there was a bomb inside. It was parked in the hall of justice impound lot near seventh and bryant. Interstate 80 runs right overhead. Turned out to be a false alarm. A Domestic Violence call in Sonoma County ends with a man battered and bruised. Tonight joe vazquez tells us its the deputy who showed up to help who is facing possible criminal charges. Reporter the 911 call came from a neighbor on highlands avenue in unincorporated Sonoma County. The neighbor said she heard loud arguing, but when deputies arrived, the woman said there was no problem. The man ran inside his room and locked the door. The sheriff said what happened next should not have happened. He said deputy scott thorn who had only been with the department about five months repeatedly used his night stick and taser on the man. It was all caught on cameras worn on the bodies of all three deputies who responded, but the sheriff is not releasing that video to the public. They force their way into this gentlemans room. While they were in there they talked to this gentleman. They could see he was not injured and he did not have a weapon. Thats when things should have slowed down tremendously and it should have been pretty clear there was no crime. Reporter the sheriff said the body camera video shows the deputy using his baton in an excessive way but that it was his use of the baton at all that got him into trouble. In this situation the force is not reasonable because he was not authorized to use force. There was no crime. There was no threat. So no force should have been used at all. Reporter the sheriff ordered an internal investigation and also asked the Santa Rosa Police department to investigate whether the deputies have broken any laws. Joe vazquez, kpix5 news. A break in the case where four students were shot. San Francisco Police made two arrests. The 15yearold students were shot tuesday afternoon as school was getting out in the parking lot at june Jordan High School in the excelsior district. Police believe one particular 15yearold girl was the target. The three male students were simply bystanders. Earlier tonight in San Francisco dozens of students and Community Members gathered in soma to call for peace and justice. Now its undergoing a 12 million renovation. The rides will be called the typhoon and the shock wave. I think it will be a really good addition especially because a lot of the rides are for the younger kids. It will be nice to have one targeting more young adults like us so we have more options of rides to choose from. Reporter tonight the city Council Voted unanimously to approve permits to allow the two rides exceed zoning height standards. The shock wave and typhoon will be about 20 feet higher unanimous the zoning night limit, but both rides will be shorter than the historic giant dipper.
