>> very glad, very relieved. >> reporter: why? >> because we won't have to see that anymore. >> reporter: in berkeley emily turner, kpix5. >> yeah. there are just 19 days until the general election. one of the most powerful ceos in the bay area lost his job over it. now there's new trouble for wells fargo in that fake account scandal. the california department of justice has launched a criminal investigation. kpix5 reporter susan stimol is outside the bank headquarters in san francisco tonight. >> reporter: the bottom line is wells fargo is going to have to release a lot of information. even what the attorney general's office ising and for is illuminating -- office is asking for is illuminating. in this paperwork we were sifting through you can see why customers thought they might be duped and why detectives might be headed to prison. did wells fargo commit identity theft? the california attorney general intends to prove it did which means someone could face felony charges. the question is who? >> do we charge the executives or do we charge the individuals who allegedly opened up all these accounts unauthorized or do we just charge the bank? >> reporter: if individuals are charged, that could mean prison time. if it's the bank, likely a big payout. the a.g.'s office released a warrant today asking for all names, communications and accounts involved in a sales tactics scandal that came to light in september. employees were pressured to open fake accounts without customers' knowledge. the bank made $3 million in fees off want million fake accounts. >> wells fargo will be held up as the example this is what you don't do and this is what's going to happen if you decide to go down this road. >> reporter: here's what the a.g.'s office found in its search. customers who discovered a $10,000 line of credit they didn't sign up for, others owed money on three life insurance policies they never purchased. some say they still don't know how many accounts were opened in their name and the bank won't tell them. >> wells fargo is suspended for at least a year. >> reporter: since the scandal broke california stopped doing business with the bank and wells fargo ceo john stumpf stepped down. state treasurer john chang said the bank must prove it's on the right track before it handles their money again. >> we're not trying to take them out of business. we're trying to make sure they do the right thing. >> reporter: attorney general kamala harris is running for office in california. there will likely be civil cases that will lead to widespread reform in the banking industry. rn california sheriff's deputy >> in a statement wells fargo says it is cooperating with the investigation. a northern california sheriff's deputy was shot and killed in the line of duty tonight. a suspect is in custody. gunfire erupted in modock county near the oregon border earlier today. chp said the deputy was shot in a rural area while responding to an emergency call. the sheriff's department posted this video on its facebook page, a procession tonight for the fallen deputy. just a few minutes ago he was identified as 31-year-old jack hopkins. he joined the department last year. the motive for that shooting is still unclear tonight. hopkins is the fourth law enforcement officer in california to be killed in the line of duty in the past two weeks. the gunman who shot four students at a san francisco high school yesterday remains at large tonight. counselors greeted students at the campus today and as kpix5's jessica flores tells us, the incident is sparking change. >> reporter: june jordan students left for the day with fists in the air walking in solidarity in the face of violence. >> june jordan is more than this. this is a moment good or bad we come together. >> reporter: san francisco unified school district officials believe the four suspects behind the shooting in the campus parking lot are not affiliated with the school, but all the four victims are students. school resource officers called to the scene thought it was an active shooter situation, though police now say they believe it was targeted. >> we provided a lockdown within the school and a lockout immediately. all of the students were put in shelter immediately. >> reporter: school is in session today. students came out in full force writing messages to their classmates who are recovering at the hospital. >> very worried about everyone. >> yes. it was like really eye opening for all of us, but what are we going to do to move on from here on out? chronicle reports: new fallout from the sinking skyscraper in san francisco the the developer is taking -- san francisco. the developer is taking a new look at its new projects. the 58 story tower sunk 15-inch and is leaning 2 inches. the building sits on a concrete slab and not bedrock. there is another building built on a basement garage also sitting on a concrete slab. because of the troubles with the millennial tower the developer is considering anchoring the new tower to bedroom. sources told the chronicle they are not as much worried about the building safety as much as bad publicity and nervous buyers. veronica de la cruz, kpix5. tonight tesla says all its new cars including the model 3 will have hardware for what it calls full self-driving capability. that includes eight cameras with 360-degree viewing from up to 820 feet away. 12 ultrasonic sensors and new forward facing radar that helps see through rain, fog and dust. the fremont based electric automaker says it still needs time to get all the kinks worked out before fully turning the controls over to a computer. tonight a chinese company wants to give tesla a run for its money. as len ramirez tells us, you may not recognize the name, but it's about to be a major player in silicon valley. >> reporter: tesla play have just met its -- may have just met its match, a sleek autonomous electric car from a chinese company that's staking a claim in silicon valley. the company is leaco and the car is le c unveiled at a launch event in san francisco today. the car may make an appearance in the next. ifers movie. >> look at the in -- next transformers movie. >> look at the interior. it's great. you could sleep in there. >> reporter: the company with a small foothold in san jose plans a major u.s. expansion that could create 12,000 new jobs in santa clara. >> it's like adding another apple computer or another google or linkedin right here into silicon valley. >> reporter: the company will build a new 3 million square foot research and development complex on 48 acres now used as a parking lot for levi stadium. the land was once owned by yahoo. now that it's changed hands it represents another step in the continuing evolution of silicon valley. it's part of a growing chinese presence in the valley and brings competition for american companies to their own turf. the company is a major player in tvs and smartphones. it has a movie studio and a streaming online service. the company has already bought irvine-based vizio tv and although it may not be a household name yet in the u.s., the company plans to be in a big way. in santa clara, len ramirez, kpix5. tonight the hacker who the fbi believes was behind a major attack on linkedin is in custody and cameras were rolling at the time. the suspect, a russian man, was browsing the restaurant at a menu in prague october 5th when czech police came in, patted this guy down and handcuffed him. the attack on linkedin was in 2012. the fbi said it may have compromised the accounts of 100 million users. officials at the us embassy demand the suspect be handed over to russian authorities. one of the most popular dating a.m.s out there is looking for its -- apps out there is looking for its perfect match in silicon valley. tonight betty yu tells us who tinder is hoping to meet in the bay area. >> reporter: tinder's new office is in a nondescript building. there's no steinage at the front door and the office is on the second floor, but this is where tinder hopes to attract top bay area talent. this emerson street office is well known in palo alto history. this is one of facebook's earliest buildings and it sits 100 feet away from google's original offices. >> i think palo alto is an amazing place to start any company. >> it's a dynamic startup. they're like the no. up 1 dating app -- no. 1 dating app probably among young people. i think palo alto is the place they want to be to reinvent themselves. >> reporter: tinder is headquartered in west hollywood and has about 200 employees. the app lets users swipe through profiles to find potential dates. the 4-year-old company says it's opening its first silicon valley office to better recruit workers with hard to find tech skills. 20s people have already been hired for the office. tinder plans to double that over the next year or so. >> it's not truly a startup which is what we really like to see, companies be born here, grow up to a certain point and mature and move on to larger locations, but at least it's not a monolithic company that is having its own cafeterias downtown. >> reporter: the new office will open next week. in palo alto, betty yu, kpix5. >> whatever happened to porch swings and lemonade?
