Tonight there is a break in the case. Police are investigating the death as a homicide. The hit and run happened in san leandro before noon today. Kpix 5s Christin Ayers tells us about the suspect in custody tonight. Reporter tonight one man is dead and another man is under arrest after a hit and run today in san leandro. Police are saying tonight that this pickup truck was the car that the suspect was driving today when he plowed into man at his place of work. The suspect hands cuffed, he walked into a patrol car. He was involved in a deadly hit and run in san leandro today. We located the vehicle. Reporter it happened here at True World Foods Distribution Center in san leandro. Authorities say an employee at the center interrupted him as he was stealing recyclable wooden pallets. He tried to stop a crime and paid the tragic price. Reporter an argument followed. He ran over the employee, left him for dead and kept driving. For hours today police staked out recycling centers and spotted the pickup truck. He tack off run took off running. The officers chased him and found him hiding underneath a parked vehicle. Reporter Authorities Say they will examine the truck and compare the driver to the man captured on Surveillance Video. This Surveillance Video shows him running out of the starbucks, chased by police who shot him three times. Cops conversationed a weapon that had a magazine that could hold 70 rounds. He also had an additional hand gun and wearing body armor. The suspects family is also dealing with another tragedy. The suspects son, a twoyear old, was shot 5 hours earlier at the suspects home. The family says the shooting was accidental. Police are still investigating. The boy is in Critical Condition at a trauma center. He fled the scene before police and paramedics arrived.
