This morning s reporter tucked around the corner from the main bloomingdales entrance on Mission Street steam cleaners got to work on the sidewalk this afternoon near where a body was found. This morning sfpd got a call of a dead white man in his 30s in the stairwell of the westfield mall in downtown San Francisco. Thomas oneal works frequently in the neighborhood and stumbled upon the crime scene. Police were pretty tight lipped. It was obvious somebody died because of the medical examiners truck parked right outside. Reporter the medical examiner ruled the death a homicide and investigators were on scene hours later collecting evidence. Sfpd isnt sure how long the mans body may have been there. The call came in at 10 15. The mall opens at 10 00. Were not disclosing the exact location of the bold, but we confirm it was inside the mall. Reporter westfield employees stay the stairwell is not one the general public typically has access to. You need an employee key or card on get inside. The stairwell in question has no locks or door handles on outside and leads to the guts of the mall, not heavily trafficked shopping areas. Authorities believe the norteno gang has about 75 members in Contra Costa County living in bay point, antioch, concord and pittsburg. A florida woman is dead after a Police Training accident went horribly wrong. An officer shot and killed 73 yearold Mary Knowlton during a class about police procedures. She was among 35 people in a Citizen Police academy in punta gorda south of tampa. Two people were picked at random for a shoot dont shoot scenario. Thats when knowlton was hit with a live round. She was shot several times. That officer is on paid administrative leave. There is an investigation on why a real gun was used for this exercise. We believe the particular caliber of the weapon used, that there were only blank rounds available to the officer.
