>> 16-year-old boy storms out of the house after a fight with his dad. that was days ago. tonight, still no sign of him. >> andria borba is in hayward where the search for the team is intensifying tonight >> reporter: liz, the search out here in hayward wrapped up a short time ago. investigators have a new lead and a new city in the hunt for minh ly. the search is on for 16-year- old minh ly. >> i hope he's okay. i just really hope he's okay. >> reporter: the straight a student at moreau catholic high school went missing saturday afternoon after an ongoing fight with his father about an online game. >> it is unusual that we have not heard from him. >> reporter: minh ly's father sanh ly said the argument spilled into the next afternoon. >> you either stay or you leave. >> reporter: his sister kim thought he went to cool off. >> i thought he was just going to go for a run and come back because he goes running in the woods all the time. >> reporter: minh ly has no phone, but there has been activity on his facebook account. the account last set off an electronic marker in san francisco. but tonight, there is still no sign of the teen. >> come home, minh. mom and bad love you, okay? nothing wrong. yeah. you don't do anything wrong, okay? just come home. >> reporter: now, we drove just a short time ago from the alameda county sheriff's department. we learned it came from a public library near a church in the city of san francisco. that is where the search is going on. live in hayward, andria borba, kpix5. >> some people in san francisco's potrero hill neighborhood say their neighborhood is turning into a homeless camp. tonight, joe vasquez found out what might be driving so many people into that area. >> reporter: in a three block span of an area called the design district, this is the scene. a homeless tent encampment. >> a homeless convention going on here at potrero hill. >> reporter: kelly keith lives in the neighborhood. >> they are drinking and shooting up drugs. >> reporter: san francisco recently started a new pilot program making it illegal for these large vehicles to park in 40 designated areas around the city. this area around potrero hill is not one of the 40. >> we had an up tick of complaints. >> reporter: devin is the mayor's point man on the homeless. >> we are going to see if we can engage with people and see how we can get them be on a better path to being housed. >> we complain about it and sometimes they are real nice to us. we try to live day by day and do the best we can. >> i have been living in or near potrero hill for the last 40 years. >> people complain that you are messing up the neighborhood. >> this is my neighborhood, you know. they moved into our neighborhood. >> reporter: tonight, these two neighbors agreed to disagree about the issue. they shook hands, but it is not over as san francisco's long struggle with homelessness continues on. on the night beat, i'm joe vasquez. >> the neighbors are set to discuss the issue next friday with supervisor molly ocoan. more than two weeks after the napa earthquake, we are getting work of the first fatality. 64-year-old laurie thompson died friday of an injury. a falling television hit her on the head. her family said she seemed fine at first, but the next day was dizzy and confused. she never recovered at the hospital. quake detecters can soon become as common in california homes as smoke detecters. we spoke to one who built one for about $100. >> earthquake. light. shaking expected in seconds. >> reporter: the napa earthquake was still five seconds from hitting when berkeley astronomer joshua bloom woke up to this voice. >> earthquake, earthquake. >> i thought okay, it's working. >> reporter: it's a small rudimentary computer that bloom built as a side project. >> this was a hobby. >> reporter: it doesn't look like much. a mini computer known as a rose berry pie. a speaker, a wi-fi adapter and an sd card. it relies on sensors all over california to pick up on seismic shaking. >> those sensors send their signals to a central computer. >> reporter: that broadcast the beginnings of the quake. bloom's device uses the same software by the scientists at the seismology lab in berkeley. >> we have about ten seconds of warning here. >> reporter: that is what shake alert scientists told us shortly after the napa quake. bloom's device took twice as long to activate, but he is hoping this will do what shake alert has been unable to do. put their $80 million technology in homes and classrooms everywhere. >> earthquake! >> reporter: earthquake warning systems like these could be as cheap and common as fire alarms. >> my hope is knowing that a device like this could exist an people could buy it and install it themselves like a thermostat. as easy as that. that people in the public will want to see this get funded. >> reporter: in berkeley, christin ayers, kpix5. well shake alert has struggled to find funding the spite legislation supporting development. bloom hoping his device will encourage people to invest in earthquake detection systems. a new way to pay. apple unveiled their latest inn novations today and betty yu was there. >> we have one more thing.
