>> live, from the cbs bay area studios, this is kpix5 news. ♪ [ music ] >> tonight, we are there as sir paul mccartney says good-bye to the stick with one final show. i'm veronica de la cruz. >> and i'm ken bastida. talk about a swan song for candlestick. >> reporter: that's right ken and a bittersweet one. fireworks just went off behind me. we are two hours into this three-hour show. tonight, 50,000 fans get to witness a legend close down a legendary venue. ♪ ooh i need your love babe. ♪ >> reporter: sir paul mccartney has played a lot of sold-out shows but this was a special one. >> hello san francisco! >> reporter: a homecoming and a good-bye to candlestick park where the beatles played their last concert. leo was there. he was 15 then and paid 6.50. >> paul waved right at us. there was the most famous face in the world 20 yards from me. >> reporter: his floor ticket tonight cost $160. tonight's concert was an i more mouse production. >> it sounds like lit be way better. in 66, it was terrible. we heard the girls screaming more than the beatles themselves. >> reporter: maybe he heard these women. back in junior high, all five of them were there. >> the beatles were a big part of our friendship. we sing the songs, our kids sing the songs. 48 years, we were kids. now we are elders. >> reporter: candlestick has been home to many memories. it hosted pope john paul ii in 1987. an earthquake, legendary 49ers victories. >> it is surreal. this is it. this is the last public event at candlestick. i think there will be 49,000 people here tonight wearing their hearts on their sleeves. ♪ hold me, love me, hold me, love me ... ♪ >> reporter: all right, something else police are watches out for is fans trying to walk away with a piece of candlestick history. they say don't do that. the chairs and other items are up for auction. meanwhile, the folks trying to take it all in. >> one last time. looks like such a good time. thank you betty. the concert might be great, but christin says the scene outside was a long and winding road. i'm not sure if i should sing that. [ laughter ] >> reporter: we will leave that to mr. mccartney tonight. we talked to fans out here. some of them had been stuck in traffic for three, four, five hours tonight on their way to the concert. we got a chance to talk to some of the people. many of them still stranded outside the stick searching for parking spaces an hour-and-a- half into the concert. on twitter people saying they simply gave up and headed back home. those who did make it out had to fight for parking and let me tell you, they were not happy tonight. >> three-and-a-half hours driving. three-and-a-half hours driving. >> where did you come from? >> we came from newark. and we are handicapped, you know, and we can't even find a place to park. >> typical san francisco. here it is. one little event and they have no parking for anybody. they just announced on the radio. what a joke. >> all the drivers are angry! >> 8:00, and there is no control. excuse me. no one actually managing the traffic. the flow is really difficult to get in and out of any of the lanes. it sure is a mess. >> go, go, go! >> reporter: some fans improvising illegal parking. if you come back out here live to us, there are plenty of open parking spaces out here and on the other side of the stadium. we did speak unofficially to a san francisco police officer who told us paul mccartney's team hired the people handling the parking. there are certainly many, many parking spaces that went unused and i know a lot of people who would have liked to be parked in these spaces. back to you. >> so all those people missing the show tonight. too bad. thank you christin ayers. also in the news tonight, we have video of the final seconds before san jose shot and killed a woman today. a woman glen ramirez tills us threatened to kill her family. >> reporter: the cell phone video shows a woman walking out of her house with her hand in the air, but she is holding one object in her right hand. she appears to hold it at her head and then to her right and a firing motion. and then another. she points it at officer in front of her and walks toward the officer who tell her to drop it. >> stop right there. >> reporter: she goes off camera. you can hear a final warning and then police shoot her. >> stop right there. stop right there. >> reporter: and that shot is of the woman lying on the ground. earlier, the woman called 911 says she had an assault weapon and was going to kill family members at her house, but the object she was holding was not a gun, it was an electric power gun painted black to look like a weapon. immediately after the shooting, officers tried to revive the woman with cpr, but she later died of her injuries. the officer involved in the shooting is on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. len ramirez, kpix5. >> we want to show you the close up of the drill. it is a cordless black and decker that was painted black. recognize any of the people in this video? if you do, call san leandro police. this is from inside a shoe store at bay fair mall on monday. you will see part of the scuffle and the guy in the white shirt holding a gun and his group heading toward the door. moments later, video shows the group headed for the exit. it was outside in the parking lot. and a man was shot in the leg. the victim will be okay. and we are keeping close tabs on what is going on in missouri. this is the fifth night of protests after police in the city of ferguson shot and killed an unarmed black teenager last weekend. but tonight, no tear gas. no protesters clashing with police. andria borba, what is different about tonight? >> reporter: well, tonight, no rubber bullets. there were hugs in the streets. actual hugs so what changed? a man named blond johnson now in charge. what a difference 24 hours makes. for protesters an heavy armed saint louis county police officers, tangled wednesday night. >> we just said handing up, don't shoot. >> reporter: the president himself stepped in. >> there is also no excuse for police to use excessive force against peaceful protests or to throw protesters in jail for lawfully exercising their first amendment rights. >> reporter: the governor of missouri also took a stand removing ferguson's police chief. the replacement, captain ron johnson of the highway patrol. he is from ferguson and is promising to change the tone of the saint louis suburb. >> this is my community. a lot of people i saw walking at the march are people that i know. people's homes i have been to. their kids have been in my homes. so the old saying i have a dog in the fire, i have a big dog in the fire. >> reporter: tonight, highway patrolmen shook hands at protesters and did not point guns at them. the case of 18-year-old michael brown has been handed over to the fbi with the family promised a transparent investigation. >> i think they are finally getting the message we are trying to get over to them. and i know for sure, i ain't going to say i think, i know for sure we will get justice. >> reporter: transparency may come sooner rather than later. the name of the officer who shot and killed brown will be released tomorrow. andria borba, kpix5. >> thank you. well, you probably noticed that some of the police in ferguson are armed to the teeth. and tonight, allen martin shows us why. >> reporter: it looks like a war zone. tanks, combat gear, assault rifles. police departments in the saint louis area like those across the country are arming their officers with equipment once on the battlefields of iraq and afghanistan. much of it free of charge from the pentagon or bought with grant money from congress. police in san jose got a tank like this one. in wisconsin, officers used a multiterrain vehicle. the boise idaho police department has a vehicle designed to withstand roadside bombs. so does the warren county sheriff eat department in up state new york. >> i hope i never have to use this vehicle. but if i do, i don't have to worry about my people or the public being injured because it certainly can save them. >> reporter: according to one report t federal government has doled out more than $34 billion to local police departments since the september 11 terrorist attacks for military style equipment. >> to me, this doesn't look like america. >> reporter: the kato institute says the military gear can incite war violence. >> people might say this is not my neighbor who is a police officer, this is an alien force coming at me. >> reporter: law enforcement in saint louis county got more than half a million dollars worth of military equipment from the pentagon including seven hum vs and an m16. but congress proposed scaling back the military equipment program for local police. people holding up their hands. a growing symbol of the killing in ferguson. >> what these people's freedom of humanity? nobody is saying anything about that. >> people in more than 90 cities took part. tonight, robin williams' wife reveals the diagnosis he kept hidden from almost everyone. >> her home was burning but this nine-year-old hayward girl knew exactly what to do. tonight, her dad is alive because she paid attention in school. >> and there is talk of paying people to vote. is this really what it has come to? ,,,,,,,,,, minister is stepping down. nouri al-mal >> well, he put audiotape fight for a few days but tonight iraq's prime minister the stepping down. he went on tv to sahiwal give the post to a physical low party member for the good of the country. hundreds of candidates tap into. tonight, twitter is promising to crack down on trolls after robin williams' daughter zelda was bullied and forced to shut down her social media accounts. twitter says they will not tolerate it. he says they have suspended a number of accounts related to this issue for violating the rules and they are in the process of evaluating how to further improve their policies to better handle tragic situations like this one. also tonight, we know that robin williams was battling more than depression and addiction. cbs reporter john blackstone on the diagnosis he kept hidden. >> reporter: for those struggling to understand robin williams' suicide, today's statement by his wife adds new context. susan schneider says in a written release, he was brave while struggling with depression, anxiety, as well as early stages of parkinson's disease which he was not yet ready to share publicly. parkinsons causes debilitating shaking or loss of muscle control. >> it is not unreasonable that this suicide could be connected to parkinson's disease. >> reporter: her husband michael was diagnosed with parkinson's 15 years ago. >> people are living very long lives with parkinsons. with mohammed, ali, you see his face is frozen. perhaps mr. williams was afraid that might happen. his facial expression is so much a part of who he is. >> reporter: michael j. fox's acting career became limited as his symptoms forced him to cut back. people with depression are three times more likely to develop parkinsons but there is no link that it is caused by depression. john blackstone, cbs news, san francisco. tonight, michael j. fox tweeted stunned to learn that he had parkinsons. i wish him peace. there will be a special tribute to rob roble at the emmy awards. a man in hayward is alive because of his daughter remembering something in school, nine-year-old galaxy called her dad, told him to open the window. remembering her training in school, she put a towel under the door to escape the smoke. then they escaped through the window, gal lack city leading the way all the time. >> there was too much smoke in the stairs. i couldn't stand it so i went out the window. here is how it is looking. high pressure that has been over the desert southwest is going to build back to the west a little bit over the next 48 hours. so as the pressure bumps up a little bit, the temperatures bump up as well. we get a dry mild participator out of it. there is no rain out of it. they will get it in seattle but we are getting the low clouds and chilly nights so when the giants take on the phillys tomorrow night at 7:15, it will be cloudy and cool and a temperature of about 60 degrees. and if football is your game, you may have heard us mention we have a football game on sunday. it will be broadcast by channel 5. and game time on sunday, 1:00, 80 degrees as the niners take on the broncos. lit be a beautiful day for football. here is what we expect for the rest of the bay area. the fog and low clouds are back. we get a little bit warmer for friday and saturday. and it will be near seasonal this weekend. pretty average temperatures, you can see that by this little bulletin board we provided for you. san francisco about a degree above average. everybody else a a few degrees above average. plenty warm when you head to the east bay. 90 at brentwood. a beautiful
