almost 3-thousand acres.. as >> live, from the cbs bay area studios, this is kpix5 news. >> tonight, this big fire in napa explodes to almost 3,000 acres. hundreds of people evacuate their homes. >> the fire is burning east of calastoga and saint helena. it has jumped buck canyon road. >> kpix5's christin ayers is there tonight. christin? >> reporter: well guys, the night, though the temperature has dropped, things have cooled off, but the fire continues to burn brightly. like over my shoulder. you can see the orange glow there. every so often, we see the fire catching onto a tree and the flames going straight up. there is much more of the fire left to fight, we hear. from a distance, mandy thought she was looking at a bonfire. >> 911 asked if it was the size of a football field and at that point it was. and at that point, it just started getting bigger really fast. >> reporter: alarmingly fast. within just a few hours, the flames consumed 2500 acres in pope valley left defecated by a punishing drought. this is not your typical july wild fire. >> you add a little weather conditions, hot temperatures, low humidity, strong winds, and the fires burn much more quickly than this. >> reporter: the firefighter haves been struggling hours trying to control. here is one of the unique problems that firefighters are dealing with. fires like the one you see right here hopping all along the hillside. they are sporadic and when they come together they have huge fires. firefighters say this is just the beginning. wild fires this summer only burn more aggressively as the summer wears on. >> it is only going to get hotter. it is only going to get drier. so the likelihood of them burning is not going to get better. >> we are all watching the fire. >> reporter: she is watching and waiting an hoping her worst fears don't materialize. now those spore attic spot fires still a factor. they have been jumping out half a mile away from the fire. their main priority overnight is protecting the area being threatened that contains hundreds of homes. reporting live, christin ayers, kpix5. >> all right, it is a bad one. thank you christin. tonight, ryan takeo was there as flames forced people in the buttes canyon area out. >> reporter: mandy thought she was looking at a wild fire. >> 911 asked me if it was the size of a football field and i said it was and it got faster. >> obviously, that was christin ayers' report. we will try to get you ryan takeo's firsthand account. but vallejo firefighters were called in to help fight this fire so they posted some pictures. they posted them to twitter and you can get realtime updates on this fire and any other bay area firefighter at kpix.com/wildfires. tonight, one teenager is in custody. a second young man still on the loose after a vicious home invasion in san jose. police say the two broke into a home near the east capital express way about 4:00 a.m. and attacked an elderly couple. they had knives. police said the suspects forced the 85-year-old woman into the back of a house an then sexually assaulted her. >> disgusting. i think it is tragic, horrible. i don't know. when i heard about it this morning i felt sick to my stomach. >> police say the suspect stole the couple's car and crashed it into a house. the 15-year-old suspect was arrested by the driver got away. police trying to sort out of if the elderly couple was tagged. stacy butler say protesters forced a bus carrying immigrant women and children to turn around. [ screaming ] >> reporter: 70 miles from the u.s. mexico border tonight, protesters are drawing a hard line in the battle over immigration. [ screaming ] >> reporter: as the sunset over the small town of marietta, crowds continued to grow. >> usa, usa! >> reporter: this hours after becauses carrying 140 undocumented women and children from texas approached the border patrol facility. protesters blocked the road. >> because it is your animals. the ones that you love. it's a little different. >> reporter: in middle town, ryan takeo kpix5. tonight, a san jose mother is facing charges for leaving her kids in the car while she gambled. a patrol car spotted the kids. a ten-year-old and a one-year- old. the mom told the deputy she planned to only be inside for a minute and didn't want to wake her sleeping son. she is charged with child endangerment. tonight, one bay area city is considering drastic action. kpix5's joe vasquez on the blacklist. joe? >> reporter: liz, we are right outside richmond city council where i got to tell you, just virtually everyone in the audience has been shaking their head tonight. the level of bickering and infighting is completely out of hand. the city council was supposed to take up a measure that banned people in the audience using vulgar language for six months at a time and it was expected to pass as most of the city, the majority of the city council members had the votes. but they haven't been able to get to it because of all the bickering. it is a little hard to hear, but take a look at what happened tonight. [ screaming ] [ talking over one another ] >> reporter: it has gotten so rowdy, that audience members have broken into song and had to be removed by the police. >> every time you do right, they put you out! >> reporter: all right, so that was a recent council meeting. no one had to be removed tonight. i will tell you that they were able to pass a visional budget, but they haven't been able to get to this item about the bans of audience members though they were supposed to take it up at 7:30. they are fighting and fighting liz. i just checked in and they said we may not get to that tonight. we are a mess. >> it is 11:15! i don't even know if they had gotten this far, but if they had this proposed blacklist, how are they going to keep track of who is on it? how would it even work? >> reporter: it would be very difficult, not to mention, there are first amendment implications. it is richmond, there would be more fighting, but i tell you, it is out of hand and it would be funny if not for the fact there has actually been some language used in there. homophobic language, vulgar language. it is not right for the citizens of the city who are just trying to get their laws passed in there. >> more city council meetings in the future. thank you joe. you ever think your cell phone bill seems high? through websites, mobile apps. >> a malicious software on your phone that gets your phone number and you are signed up for some kind of service. >> reporter: they says t-mobile also made it impossible to figure out all the charges. >> you had to actually dig through all 50 pages to find a single line that had this 9.99 charge on it. >> reporter: t-mobile gets up to 40% of the fees. the rest goes to the service provider. >> better check it. while we complained, we also can't live without our smartphone. they were ranked right up there coffee, their car, and deodorant as important. we know it is true. speaking of smartphoning, a dating app is in trouble. cate caugurian says things got really nasty. >> reporter: tinder has met its match, but not what you are thinking. the dating app marketing head suspended. the big whopper, he took away her cofounder title because she supposedly said having a young woman in charge devalues a company. >> it was a sexist attitude toward women in technology companies that somehow devalues the company or people will take the company less seriously if there is a young woman as a cofounder. >> reporter: to add to the tinder twist, whitney is annexed in more ways than one. they dated and the harassment started after they broke up. >> for them to strip her title because she was a young inexperienced woman, it is kind of ridiculous when, you know, she is probably one of the core reasons why tinder is what it is today. >> reporter: luke morris is one of the ten million users. you down load it and they find potential matches. so if you like someone, you swipe right, if not, yes. tinder is the latest in the grow grammar culture favoring men over women. amy lin knows. she is the cofounder and ceo. >> women are able to create great products that serve everyone. >> reporter: so tonight, based on all of this, will tinder's user give the app the swipe?
