There are Police Vehicles all trying to figure out exactly what went down here this afternoon. It was pop, pop, pop. Reporter the gunfire began at 2 45 behind this walmart. U. S. Marshalls were trying to arrest an attempted murder suspect when things went sideways. Their officers were involved in the first shooting. A neighbor who didnt want to be identified on camera says he heard and saw a lot. I ran outside and look over the fence because it sounded like the car had tannic off. There were six cops out there telling me to get off the wall. Reporter a few minutes later in the parking lot of the been e beington apartments, there were more shots. This time, Police Officers pulled the trigger. Witnesses say there were children in the car, but they are unharmed. Both incidents happened very close to the very busy walmart and a School Leaving folks worried about the timing of these shootings. It is too close to home. Reporter now, this is 11 00 at night. Look how packed that parking lot is. Imagine how many people are here at 3 00 this afternoon when these incidents were going down. We dont know a lot about exactly what happened here because the Fairfield Police are charged with releasing information to the people and charged with releasing the u. S. Betty yu speaks to a woman very excited to get that jewelry back. It was shocking to see me on there. I recognized it. Reporter its been 31 years since laura burke saw her mom wearing this gold bracelet. Her and her brothers names and bracelets are on the charm. She remembers her mother wearing it everyday until burglars broke into their san jose home in 1983. The stolen bracelet turned up in a car at a traffic stop in redwood city. It wasnt until a detective decided to share it on the pinterest page that tips started pouring in. Within 12 hours, they led him to flora. This is a huge tool for us. The Department Tells us they usually send recovered items like that to an auction house if the owner doesnt come forward in three months. A palo alto woman accused of stealing diamonds from a san mateo jewelry store. Authorities say Angela Walker was posing as a customer. A clerk left for a moment and she stole a diamond ring. Merchants want people to look at this photo closely to see if she has stolen from other stores. We are getting a look into the background of the gunman in fort hood. Ivan lopez. Reporter the gunman had moved to this apartment a few weeks ago. Neighbor shanice banks saw him yesterday at lunchtime. He looked fine. He didnt look anxious or, you know, theres no signs of it could have been him. Thats why it was so mind boggling. Reporter a few hours later he was shooting fellow soldiers. There may have been a verbal altercation with another soldier or soldiers and it is a strong possibility that, that in fact immediately proceeded the shooting. Reporter he started firing at an administration building. The first calls to 911 were made by two of the soldiers he wounded. Lopez fired more shots as will headed to another building. There is at least one chaplain that shielded and saved other soldiers. Reporter the rampage ended when lopez was confronted outside by a female military police officer. He pulled out the 45 caliber weapon. She saw that as a threat. Engaged him with small arms fire. Then the shooter did a self inflicted gunshot wound.
