Police are getting a new breathalyzer device that can detect alcohol without them blowing into it. They are getting 170 of these preliminary devices. They can find the amount of alcohol key dealing with drivers under 21. The new devices should be rolled out january 21 and make things easier for police. The new feature is it records all of the samples. As an officer, if you get a sample, you have all the information on your device. Officers are rapping up training on these devices that will replace 60 older units. Starting january 1, there is one less thing teenage drivers can do behind the wheel. Brian webb was the new law designed to mike californias roads a lot safer. Reporter teenagers are some of the most troublesome drivers on the road today an teens texting behind the wheel is a big problem. Thats a great idea. To crack down on it. Reporter the state of california is cracking down on teens texting while driving outlawing it even with hands free Voice Activated Technology that adult drivers are allowed to use. When you are under the age of 18, you need to learn to drive first before introducing any distractions. Reporter the new law closes the loophole under the old law that allowed for voice texting for all drivers until someone realized that is probably not best for young inexperienced drivers. And even young inexperienced drivers seemed to agree. Texting is a big thing. They like to text. I mean, i like to text. Reporter the goal is to keep distractions out of the driver seat and for teen drivers that is doubly true.
