live from the cbs bay area studios this is kpix 5 news. >> tonight new details in the death of a prominent san francisco attorney. the man under arrest her relative. good evening. >> attorney marlo sdamora was found stabbed to death in her home. >> reporter: well brian marla's friend and family who stopped by her home to pay tribute told us that marla was a compassionate person and they say that's what she was trying to do for her great nephew. >> she was a good mother and a great friend to her and i can't belief it happened to her. >> reporter: marla zamora's apartment doorway now filled with flowers and a memorial. >> reporter: marla's friends and colleagues still in shock as investigators work to figure out why. >> she was vital, brave, strong, amazing person and she -- she can't be defined by the way she died. >> reporter: san francisco police found the former public defender stabbed to death at her home yesterday morning. her belongings taken away as pieces of evidence and police have one man in custody. 20-year-old anglo sdamora. rodney was one of marla's friends. >> he would be in his back room every so often maybe once or twice. he'd come into just the kitchenen and maybe chat a little bit with marla and go back. >> reporter: her friends say anglo was marla's great nephew. >> when he was in need she would be there. >> reporter: because they say that's the kind of person marla was. >> she would do anything for somebody who was young and who needed help. >> she allowed people to stay at her home when they didn't have anywhere to go from the juvenile kids that she used to defend to friends and interns that she used to work with. >> reporter: police have still not officially commented on the relationship between marla and anglo and her friends say they still don't know why this happened. so again the motive in this case is still a mystery. reporting live in san francisco kpix 5. burglars are targeting an up scale community. kpix 5 doll line on the spike in crime in danville and the plan put in place to catch the thiefs. >> reporter: an upset danville woman gets her husband for backup the suspect opens the door and runs off. the woman chases after him. it happened thursday night. the victims said the young man kicked open the garage door to steal tools. earlier that day in the same danville neighborhood police arrested a different man after he broke into a house on western star place. the family tells me the burglar came in through this fence and kicked open the door. an alerted neighbor called 911. officer tyler nelson and his k-9 ronnie found the suspect nearby. >> one of his shoes came off. so my dog was able to smell his shoe, gain his scent and we tracked him from there. >> he was underneath the card board box right here and the k-9 was able to follow the track. >> reporter: danville police say there's been a spike in home burglaries. the chief and the mayor called a town hall meeting to talk about crime prevention. asking the city to approve the installation of license plate reading cameras. >> we're going to strategically place them in points around time so it would be difficult to commit a crime in danville and then leave danville without passing one of the cameras. >> and danville police hope to have those license plate readers in place by the end of this year. we have just learned the fed exdriver suspected of hitting a chp officer is in the area and has been charged with a dui. he was struck along highway 50 in sacramento early this morning. he is seriously hurt but is expected to be okay. ramirez is from san lorenzo. tonight protesters calling for the firing of san francisco's police chief has officially ended their hunger strike. and that is where the people who called themselves the frisco 5 were taken yesterday at the recommendation of doctors. they had camped auto for 16 days in front of the mission police station upset about a string of deadly shootings by officers. >> these strikers have taken on a tremendous sacrifice physically. they physically elm body the pain people feel in their own heart and we hope eventually that will have an impact on the mayor's heart as well. >> last night 33 people were arrested among about 200 who rampaged through city hall in support of that hunger strike. everyone who was arrested has since been released. well the rain might be partly to blame for a crash that killed a south bay teenager today. the 17-year-old from saratoga died. the roads were wet at the time and it looks like the young driver was going too fast for the conditions. after a fire the neighbor of the building on telegraph spotted the smoke just after 6:00 this morning. about a half dozen units are damaged there. the rest are all right but power and gas is shut off but nobody was hurt. well the rain certainly didn't keep bay area sports fans at home. especially since two of our teams are making playoff runs. unfortunately the warriors couldn't get the game 3 tonight. kpix 5 maria madina shows kpix fans had their eyes on both games. >> if we don't win the series i will be bitter. >> reporter: meet lisa dieson who claims nothing absolutely nothing would stop her from watching a game. >> if my mom was in the hospital i'd be there three hours later. >> reporter: she may be kidding but she's not joking about her lucky charm. >> and i leave little easter eggs. >> reporter: she says she eats an egg when the sharks need to change momentum. >> and you only have to use it if they're not doing well. >> reporter: lisa is also a warriors fan. we caught her and her friends with a huge crowd at san pedro square. except for this night with both the warriors and the sharks playing fans had to choose which game to watch. >> when you have tickets to one game you don't have much choice. >> reporter: john daniels and jp reed watched them both at the bar. >> i wished the nba and nhl would get more together and work on their schedules. >> reporter: but for some like lisa she doesn't have to think twice about watching her sharks. here's hoping her chocolate eggs can get them a win. >> as a sports fan and the thrill of victory is the in colorado. a spring storm's moved from the mountains into the plains. this tornado was caught on camera northeast of denver. several buildings were damaged and trees uprooted. the same system impossible to control. >> reporter: there are times when you can tell if it's a fire or a volcano that's just erupted. with no significant rain in the forecast this fire is nearly impossible to of the towns. that could save what's left of fort mcmurray. police say they discovered a family of five who had not evacuated and were thankfully not injured. one homeowner who monitors his security cameras watched as flames devoured everything in his living room in less than two minutes. >> the town itself is a ghost town. >> reporter: his house was burned to the ground earlier this week and he says residents will not be returning home any time soon. >> services such as water, gas, and electricity in some parts of town it doesn't exist. >> reporter: tens of thousands of people who fled reporter: many of the cars end up chopped. the parts sold right here in the east bay. >> for a hot motor you can make $4,000, $5,000 on it maybe. >> reporter: 2010 to 2015 camaros. >> you just can't tomorrow 60 degrees. 70 in concord. san jose 69 and oakland 63 degrees. south bay tomorrow plenty of clouds but also some sun peaking out from time to time. temperatures in the mid 60s to low 70s. over in the east bay same. mostly cloudy and temperatures along the 680 corridor mid to upper 60s but as you get towards the central valley the numbers will -- 77 degrees. off in the north bay clouds and temperatures in the mid 60s. and extended forecast mother's day mild with clouds and then monday, tuesday, wednesday some clouds and some sun but by the latter half of the week we'll go severely sunny and temperatures in the mid 70s. so it is looking bright. i don't know if that's entirely true. what a segway. my gosh. desperate times. desperate measures surrounding nba playoff game 3 out
