Was Michael Jackson not Michael Jackson that word and then it was like man like you know man it's kind of crazy thinking to call somebody just you know just talk I don't know why I was just want to think but I guess the point is that it wasn't like Who can I call that knows Michael Jackson was like did matter who you call everybody Michael Jackson to me and just a habit of my boy call me right I was thinking like man do you hear Michael Jackson was like man that's crazy because you know Michael Jackson is one of those artists that spanned from 78 years old when he 1st started from the early sixty's all the way to 2009 when he passed away and the reality is he was popular the whole way out and he was at a level where everybody from those generations Gnome and kids today know who he is which I mean for most artists. 10 years ago and you know they're maybe their prime was in the eighty's ninety's seventy's most kids no I do they are but everyone knows who Michael Jackson is Michael Jackson for me he was for ever. I never thought he would die. Like in the physical and I would just say like he was one of those super heroes if you will it was just like wow yeah I were I would go that far but. I saw him being like like it was almost like like with him or like with the prince like I saw them like growing old right like Oh yeah definitely you know you would expect and especially with. With the amount of love the people have form and the health care is available and you know people you know they weren't known as drug addicts or hard partying drinkers around thing like that so I mean it's different when you have people who maybe have an addiction or are known for being crazy but you would suspect that about Michael nor Prince either but especially now Michael Jackson The thing about Michael Jackson it was just like you mentioned he had been around for so many years so many decades right and for me I see Michael as a guy that will be around forever when it comes to his music generations after generations will know who Michael Jackson is just like they know who the Beatles are so hopefully I mean yeah. I would agree it's interesting because he has such a grand body of work then. There are songs that we know from when we were kids that were remakes of Michael Jackson songs but we didn't realize until we got older very exposed to yeah go back even when I 1st hit the Jackson 5 like I Want You Back was sampled by Kris Kross job yeah or anybody Yeah exactly so songs like that they were sampled by the Jackson 5 and little did we know some years later and then even like a song like all I do is think of you troupe had made a popular song that I knew that true did a beautiful song yeah when truth did it and then to know that the Jackson 5 did it originally and to hear that as much as I love that true Jim I mean I think through the heck out of this. When you hear the original it's just. The original That puts it just at a more fine level than than the true version just because there is no breakdown I don't agree with there only I like the original recording ribbon Mike's pretty digital. I don't know trip just they really put their spin on it and they made it their own which makes me Favorite their version over the Jackson 5 yeah they got more production on the trip version Yeah you know I think that the breakdown when he when he holds that no you know together he would always like to be you know he just I can't sing it but you know I'm talking you know he's very good on the way through that that was impressive but I don't know I just I just dig I dig the Jackson 5 version with the Jackson 5 take a back the Jackson 5 you know he has songs like big boy and songs that they have been you know obviously known in the it was you know doing their due diligence and painter do the Jackson 5 and Johnny Jackson who was a neighbor India Gary Indiana area which is where they're from. Chicago Illinois. They were around and they were 23 Jackson Street. You know that you know they pay their dues Yeah they did they paid their dues and. You know eventually they got put on by about Bobby Taylor Gladys Knight Bobby Taylor Yeah and Diana Ross. I guess for their 1st album all Motown. Presented which presented you know here discovered is one thing presented she was more than me happy and kind of the it was basically a let me just use this name and this will you know pretty much bring some kind of shine towards them yeah well since we're here and I have a cued up why don't we go into a little all I do is think of you this is the Jackson 5 version if you haven't heard it you'll love it you probably heard the true version from the late eighty's early ninety's that's dope to take any When thing away from true but here's Michael Jackson doing his version of it in this into 94 point one f.m. K p f a I'm Thomas j. With the minor and we're celebrating Michael Jackson. People want to finish a p.f.a. Let's talk music Thomas Jane d. Minor All I do is think of you by the Jackson 5 of Michael Jackson on the lead they might you can tell me that's not a banger is a banger man but yeah as I said to go with the true version you know it was this. Song that I was that version I was introduced to 1st in just it was just something about how Steve and Al had just really put their. On it so but again the Jackson 5 they put it down in you know the combination of Michael as your main and he can't is just untouchable so but I was actually the last one of the last singles that they did for Motown Records and then a had went off to c.b.s. In Philadelphia and working with Gamble and Huff for the 1st Jacksons album in 76 Paul was 76 actually Motown correct Jermaine has stayed with Motown his legions. Have remained with Motown and he was married. And I don't know me he says that it didn't really have any influence on his staying but he just felt like as he put it this was the company that actually helped raise us musically we should just stay here but. It was it was the brothers respected it from what I understand so you know they respected it but in the words of the great Public Enemy don't believe the hype. Life is there to do with the reason now it is whatever. Your heart but don't don't don't lie to me but you know they had such a key sell with Motown you saw their sound and then when they got older and they were with c.b.s. And then you know later you know epic and all that stuff you saw. The maturity of the sound the way that they were able to develop and one thing that Michael doesn't get a lot of credit for just that we didn't hear a lot of the later ages was his balance and his slow jam Well there actually did take it back to the beginning as the Jackson 5 Michael really sounded like he lived a lot of those lyrics. So yeah you know he wasn't too young but at the same time he really could put forth a motion that the song require indeed in life songs like when I see you and I don't know of why love you and maybe tomorrow I'll be there the love you say I mean he is really singing these songs in a Richie actually had did interview want time in saying that he didn't believe that this little kid was literally a little kid he thought that Michael Jackson was a little person. Because he's really seriously he really did he really could not but we with him singing songs I never can say goodbye. He was just disbelieved like this cannot be a show me some id get that was that he was talented I mean I know there's not a single musical person alive they could knock down and for him to be able to. Put the emotion and put the required pitch and tonality into the song while dancing to you like I mean that's just amazing that's what put him above and beyond he is at a level that most people will never see and you know it's a shame really we lost him early the key for Michael is the fact that he was able to translate all those 33 things not only in the studio but on stage as well and what was interesting with the Jackson 5 the whole said it was supposed to be Jermaine being policing and not Michael that was really the whole thing like they really wanted to say Jermaine up as that guy but it was just something about Michael when he got on stage in the auditions it was Michael there's a yeah man and his presence just really just. I'm not going to say our son the brothers but but he drew the attention yeah you know he was the one that had it I mean they all were musically talented I mean they really were musically talented and say what you will about Joe Jackson he was able to put forth a band of his boys and help his daughter but they were all musically talented but sometimes you just have that one person that stands out and shines amongst the stars and. Let's make this very clear though if it wasn't for Joe Jackson and wouldn't be no Michael Jackson would be a Jermaine Jackson true it wouldn't be any of them so you know say what you want to say what he did this and that but Joe Jackson was able to get his kids out of the Hood thank you so you got to give it up to him I mean really made it happen otherwise they just beat him dues from down a book report them Jackson do yeah exactly and with. It's interesting the way the whole set up at Motown at that time they were actually going to be pushing each member to do solo albums and they pushed main Jermaine I believe was the 1st one to come out as a solo artist in 72 and they were trying to market him as a Marvin Gaye if you will. They wanted him to be that kind of a sex symbol if you will and Michael you know he came out with I believe been and then got to be there and they tried to push there but it really didn't work Yeah well the thing is they all were very much talented as a group. Michael had the ability to branch out on his own and that's not to say that they didn't mean Jermaine did a couple a solo albums and they had you know their home and they had. Their own musical talents and individuality but Michael because of his town because of his ability to perform because of his magnetism was able to. Cut above the rest he was doing a lot of people don't know he was doing individual. Back and his brothers yeah and then you know going back and forth yeah he sure was especially as they got older and went to c.b.s. And I was in the whole reason why that they went to c.b.s. Was because they wanted to write they want to produce it right they weren't able to do that Motown Records and Barry Gordy Jr was a guy that was like Ok you guys are the performers we got the writers we had the producers and I think they even attempted to produce a girl group 7475. And really nothing came out of Dad but it wasn't until they went to c.b.s. And working with Gamble and Huff in Philadelphia that they were able to. Be able to flex their power if you will flex their talents around the studios and in fact Gamble and Huff actually have made mention that Michael was there throughout all of the studio sessions and they were like what it whatever you want to do just let us know yeah and you know also interesting about Michael you mentioned earlier about his ability to convey the emotion in the song from such a young age well. When he was in about that 7576 era there was a song that was presented to him that we all know. That required him to. Basically envelop the feelings of a horrible breakup with a song that you know a man who's deeply in love with a woman and does time they break up and he knows that he's gone for good and he had not had that experience yet and so he basically was told to find some motivation for them and he says he thought about his mother Woman happened that his mother had left him and he recorded the song she's out of my life and you know being being quite serious but also just being me you know when I 1st kind of looked into that it was when Eddie Murphy was talking about it and anywhere he was making fun of it is my get sensitive you cry are you know hard but there's some the say about that the fact that Michael could sing that song to an arena you know he's not performing 300 venues he's performing arenas 203040000 people and he has command over the crowd his ability to sing and make people feel the emotion that his film was it was 2nd to none and you know he sings that and he you know he you can hear the way that he asked the audience a question. You know people people forget there are people of faith Michael Jackson walks in the arena or you see him out somewhere people remaining just being in his presence that's how big of a star that Michael Jackson was. So I don't know I mean it's really something else but let's go into a little she's out of my life they live version so you can hear the way that Michael commands a crowd here and conveys the emotion this is let's talk music I'm course I'm Thomas j. With the monitor and you listening to 94 point one f.m. P f. B. K.p. If a Thomas j. D. Minor Let's talk music tribute ing Michael Jackson she's out of my life it's taken from v. Live Jackson album from 81981 the trying to or yeah I was there was a great tribute can I come down and everyone goes crazy did yeah now if you just know it from Michael Jackson and any mercy then does what but he said Can I come down there and. You know was crazy about that is we talked a little bit about it before the break people were legitimately if you were not around for Michael Jackson mania and the early eighty's people were fainting to be in his presence Yeah I mean not one person it was a regular thing that people want out that was a very no man I mean it was just some Michael just had it yeah and you know I remember some time back when I was on k.p. Oh and. We had a tribute to Michael at that time and we were talking about somebody was actually on the break in a good friend of mine and he was around during like the Jackson 5 Jackson's period and I remember we had asked him Did you see the potential of Michael being this superstar at 70 and 76 in 75 did you see the potential there and they said he said yeah oh yeah definitely and I remember Gamble and Huff had as have been asked that same question and they say yeah we saw it even then we had worked with him on those 2 outcomes for c.b.s. We saw Michael having net potential of going off on his own again and off he went you know most people know off the wall but he had a he had a couple solo albums before that yeah and you know by the time you hit it off the wall you know he was working with Quincy and and and high level and then. Rod Temperton Well yeah that was that you know was what was interesting was that. When he got with Quincy you know they have worked on the way is that was their 1st project together and and I believe Michael will Barry White including white they were all tight with time with each other and Barry White has said to Michael if you want to Quincy to be a producer just ask them Ok And so when they came together and working on the Off The Wall album it was on and. It had brought some songs to disable man Rod Temperton from heat wave another one of our favorite groups absolutely heat wave had some interns go on which you know we'll save that for the heat wave tribute show but there's been some accidents and some some slowdowns and Rod Temperton steadily right music and he would bring the music to Michael Jackson after he left he waved shoes and you know Johnny Johnny while the jewel in your way yay or nay songs and so in the process of them working on that 3rd album they had a couple of songs and 2 of them happened to be off the wall that rock with you and so. You know the singer Johnny Wilder said I don't think the songs are for me so I was like fine I'll give them to Michael so now was the case with that so he brought 3 songs to the table. And so off the wall was one of them you know he basically was like. You know and like heat wave so you keep writing songs for Michael Jackson that's what Keith Wilder has said he made mention of that and because I was when I ride had really got in the fold with Quincy and you know I started working with through physicians and in fact that was the case Quincy had been working with through facing Shaka Khan and then working with Michael and so they came together need the songs and so massive jam for Rufus and Shaka and rock with you and all the wall for Mike your brother didn't want to be says he said I guess what came. While they had said made that comment and yeah right as a you know. He didn't want to go that was the case with that but you know you can obviously hear the influence of what Rod had brought to the table and what he had been doing with his band again what Michael had brought to the table so you can obviously you can clearly hear the heat wave influence on songs like rock with the one off the wall as well as the money song so forth but yeah that all the while laughing really you know just kicked the door for Michael and just in the sense of as a solo artist because this was really if you really think about the timing this was really his 1st solo album because you know for every Michael and got to be there in bed and so on so for songs and solo albums that he had did down were really just you know Jackson 5 albums was just Michael it was Michael Jackson solo albums but this album here was really an opportunity for him to actually go off and work with other people outside of his brothers yeah and you know that was an interesting time because he's doing music on his own he's still doing music with the Jackson 5 and he's got his own kind of thing going but. You know sonically explore yourself and kind of reach out and do things that you may not do with your brothers and doing you know different I guess quote unquote big time but this was at the time working mainly with Quincy who could call Michael Jackson smelly That was a nickname when you get a strange smelly and then you had the right temperature and who is a great musician and writer in his own right come through and you just creating a whole brand new sound that you know has obviously stood the test of time but was so different and so sharp. That you know it was great written music but it also took the right person to put it over the top and that was just a perfect storm brewing and it was like with all the wall out all the elements were there you had Louis Johnson you had Paul McCartney who rolled girlfriend you had Stevie Wonder who wrote I can't help it Patti Austin who did a duet with him on that album so all the elements were there and it was just like the stars are aligned $979.00 was deathly the year of Michael Jackson but prior to that Michael had really came into his own with his brothers for the Destiny album and really if you think about it. The Jags in cell title album in 76 Les 76 and then you had going places in 77. You know they were they were just really learning their way in the studio with things to Gamble and Huff and I was talking to somebody and somebody has said that. They should have stayed with Gamble and Huff throughout those Jackson albums they always they were this person has said that they were great writers and producers but just to have that revered entity there right would have been good for them they kind of let the Ness a little too early and you know I kind of disagree with that because shaking my down to the ground pushed me away and things I do for you and destiny which is great great great great songs and I think it just kind of show that they were able to go off and do it on their own I mean obviously you know they had done some stuff here and there on those 1st 2 Jackson albums but this was an album 78 where they were really able just to get off and really do their thing and really get busy and off the wall was kind of like a destiny part to yeah and shake a body down to the ground was one of the funkiest songs you know out of the seventy's. Born directly out of one of the greatest grooves in my opinion of all time and of course that's Marvin Gaye's Got to give it
