There are too many. Throughout town there are two thousand two hundred forty four lane miles of road. Plowing that much pavement would require about fifty plows working around the clock. The city of reno. Only has 19 plows. So. Instead of cleaning the snow off of every road. Crews just focus on arterials. And collector roads. In other words. Roads that have a lot of traffic. The main priority is for emergency purposes, for transportation purposes, for rtc. We clear the arterials first and we work into the collectors then we finally work into the residentials. To give you an example. Priority one streets are virginia. 4th street. Sierra. Arlington. Etc. Priority two streets would be first street. West street. And commercial row. To name a few. So streets that are traveled less are most often priority two. The point of all of this. Dont be shocked if you wake up monday morning and your street is not plowed. State leaders are wanting costs of putting nevadas School Choice program on hold, to be paid by the group suing to stop it. A brief filed today requests the group educate nevada now, to post a 239thousand dollar bond. The state would be eligible for the bond money, if a Court Overturns the hold. A carson city judge put the education savings just weeks before money was scheduled to start flowing to families. The voucherstyle Program Allows parents to claim more than 5thousand dollars in state perpupil school funds each year, and use it for private school tuition. Elko is extending its ban on medical marijuana establishments. According to the Elko Daily Free press, the city Council Voted four to one to extend a two year moratorium on medical marijuana Business Licenses until march 2018. The Council Members wanted to continue the ban because marijuana is still illegal at the federal level. One councilman who voted against extending the ban said banning those businesses would deprive the city of an opportunity for revenue, and deny residents a needed service. A Washoe County school board member, is stepping down because of health issues. Barbara mclaury announced shes stepping down in march. She spent 34years with board will now have to choose a replacement, to represent district g in west Washoe County. That person will fill the seat until someone is elected, in november of 2016. There is no set protocol in place to select an interim successor. The board will talk about finding a replacement in february. Engineers opened the roof and found several trusses that were broken. The closure forced swimmers to go to the northwest indoor pool, which has caused congestion. The city of reno might open outdoor pools to alleviate the congestion. But many swimmers told kolo 8 news now they want the city to look at building a new facility. Andy bass, city of reno, this is the second time we have lost a pool in the past two years and anytime you lose a pool not only does it stress current programming but it also shows the absolute need to continue to build recreational facilities especially an aquatic center. The city estimates a new pool could run between 15 and 20 million dollars. If repairs go according to plan. The city is hopeful the evelyn mount pool could reopen. In september of this year.
