team coverage on the continuing swelter. let's start with the hot forecast where you live. >> appropriately so as summer as started. take a look at live doppler 7 right now. we are seeing fog near the coast. the fog with the sea breeze kept you comfortable near the coast. temperatures in the 60s but inland we got up into the upper 90s to low 100s this afternoon. it will get hotter inland. an excessive heat warning all the way through the east bay valleys. this really is going to be dangerous heat in those areas. heat advisory for all areas in orange for wednesday. here are waying to beat the heat as we deal with the summer heat. he'll heat illnesses are possible. stay hydrated and cool. limit outdoor activity and never, ever leave your children or your pets inside vehicles. exactly how hot is it going to get and how long will the triple digits last? i'll have the answers in a little bit. as the bay area braces for the heat everyone from police to medical professionals are getting ready. we are live tonight in walnut creek. >> reporter: there was a power outage here in this parking lot earlier this morning. you can see the power is back on but given how much asphalt there is here, things got pretty hot, pretty toasty. this heat alarm system lets the sheriff's deputy know the temperature in the back of his canine patrol car. >> once the back gets to 90 degrees it sets the sensor off and the alarms and windows and fans. >> reporter: it is alerting their smartphones too. sometimes he may need to step away from the car without his canine officers. >> sometimes we go into houses and around kids. >> the public needs to know if we are going through all these checks and balances to keep our dogs safe that you cannot leave your dog in a car even with the windows cracked. >> reporter: doctors treated a few patients today for heat related illnesses. >> most people don't think it's going to happen to emthis. people are going out and hiking in 100 degree weather. >> reporter: he says avoid physical activity during the hottest time of the day. >> i stayed indoors and went to the library. i think it is cooling down a little bit. >> he won't get in the pool. >> reporter: but this canine officer will practice bomb sniffing drills in the shade. it's where they plan to spend much of their time this summer. because of the ongoing heat a flex alert is in effect tomorrow. we are all being asked, therefore to conserve electricity from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 in the evening. the strain on the system is causing power outages like this one at a safeway in livermore. and we may likely face more power issues this week. >> we're expecting another rise in temperatures coming this thursday. so we're anticipating basically more power outages. >> at the peak of the problem almost 11,000 people in the bay area lost electricity today. there are about 390 customers without power around the bay area. now keep in mind you can track the temperatures where you live san francisco. the driver stopped at the scene and talked with police. you can see the bike stuck under the suv. this happened on seilver avenue vigils for the muslim teenager beaten to death over the weekend in a suspected hate crime. the 17-year-old was bludgeoned with a baseball bat on sunday in virginia. and complete strangers thousands of miles away gathered to honor her memory. we are in the newsroom with the story tonight. >> reporter: more than 100 people attended the vigil which was planned in just 20 hours. no one there personally new the woman, everyone could relate in some way and let's turn back to the top story which is the brutal heat. sandhya patel is tracking the forecast. summer has officially arrived a couple hours ago and felt like it for days. >> this heat wave has continued and will continue for a couple more days. i want to show you walnut creek's temperatures. tomorrow afternoon, 101 degrees. thursday, even hotter at 103. and after those two days, notice the temperatures slide especially as we head into the weekend and early next week. the heat wave will break but it has been going on for days. as you know we have had triple digits for a while now. here's a live look as we look at the financial district there. skies are clear over head but not everywhere. we have fog in parkway reyes right now. and we have some right along the san francisco and san matteo coastlines. most of you have a nice breeze coming through, quite comfortable, 50s, 60s, inland in the 70s and 80s. here's a live look at emeryville. beautiful looking across the bay. fog near the coast. temperatures rising the next two days. intense heat on thursday and records are possible on that day. temperatures first thing in the morning from the low 50s to the mid-60s. the fog will be around. it is dropping the visibility. it might be misty and drizzly. inland areas starting out clear and with the mild temperatures you know in the afternoon it's going the get warmer. 93 in the south bay in san jose. upper 90s on the peninsula. from the mid-80s to low 90s in red wood city. daly city, 67. in the north bay, triple digits in santa rosa. 92 san rafael. in the east bay, a warmer day but not uncomfortable. inland areas this is where it's going be cooking again. the sweltering heat will make it uncomfortable for -- if you are out and about. 104 in antioch. 101 in walnut creek. live look from santa cruz this may be the place to go to escape the heat. most of you in the 60s. 76 in santa cruz. extreme uv index. on thursday an excessive heat warning not just covering the inland east bay tomorrow but the same area on thursday. and then also including parts of the north bay hills. we have a heat advisory that will expand to cover parts of the bay shoreline as well. the coast is the only exception here on thursday. the dangerous heat could cause heat-related illnesses. temperatures will be around 104 to 105, 106. coastside will keep you in the comfort zone. it is going to be sizzling. appropriately so as summer arrived tonight. it's the first full day of summer tomorrow. 104 wednesday to 106 thursday. the heat eases friday and we'll have a nice wide range of
