coming in our direction. lightning is showing up off our coastline. on our storm impact scale from one to five we will be rating the storms. one is light and five is severe and we are ranking this one a three. the strongest yet for the season so far. the heaviest rain is over 40 miles an hour. flooding of low-lying areas and the possibility of mudslide. late tonight through wednesday afternoon, these are the areas , and it covers virtually all parts of the bay area with eke exceptions of the inland east bay. 4:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., high tides and large swell and run off will cause low-lying flooding issue. and we have a high surf advisory until 6:00 p.m. watch out for the westerly swells. 15 to 18 feet with large breaker. we will look at the time line of when the strongest part of the of people. southern california is not getting spared. the flooding collapsed the ceiling at a hotel in san diego. a pipe draining water from the rooftop burst. the water poured through ceiling. they had to collect it in large bins and dumb the water outside. the water flooded the garage trapping several cars and guests were relocated to other hotels. >> we are expecting a lot of rain this week. it is a good idea to prepare if you loud power at your home or maybe you spring a leak. the biggest seller in san francisco are flashlights. employeeses say that people were buying tarps, buckets and coastline here is the first sign that the storm will be coming in in a short time. in the sierra the snow has been winding down, but more snow is in the forecast as we head toward tomorrow. rainfall with today's system which was a two was healthy. you will notice an inch in san jose. 3.63 in ben boman. napa over an inch. san rafael two and a half inch. livermore and concord between a half to .60 of an inch. the temperatures right now in the 40s and 50s with the cloud cover, and here is a live look at some of the clouds. stormy for your morning commute. there is a chance of thunderstorms and a miles an hour. sustained winds 20 to 30 and that could take down trees and power lines. be careful out there. heavy rain continues at 4:00 a.m. mike nicco will be on at 4:30 in the morning and continuing through 7:00 a.m. we will keep you posted on this storm. 5:00 a.m., the rain coverage actually lets up, but there will be pockets of moderate to heavy rain. 6:00 a.m., it is still there. by 7:00 a.m., you will start to see some areases break up. and then at 8:00 a.m. as you take the kids to school they will need the raincoats and the umbrella and the rain boots. 10:00 a.m. look at light to moderate rain. this continues at noon, afternoon, evening commute with scattered showers. the showers just go on. you saw that moisture plume stretching. this is what an el nino enhanced storm can do. at 10:00, 11:00 we are going with scattered showers. heavy rainfall expected in the mountains. we can see up to two and a half inches. most areas are looking at .80 to over an inch and a half in santa rosa by wednesday night and that's just with one storm. the winter storm warning starts at 8:00 a.m. storm and runs until 10:00 p.m. expecting the snow level down to 4,000 feet. up to 14 inches for the highest peaks. and it is going to be difficult traveling up there. not only that chain controls will likely be going up again. additional snow expected for the mountains. this system will bring colder snow levels -- lower snow levels. it is a colder system. the next system is weaker. it comes in on thursday. it is a light storm on our storm impact scale. less than half an inch for most areas, but it will impact you thursday morning at 4:00 a.m. we will see scattered light showers. 5:00 a.m., not a lot happening. we head toward the afternoon and you will notice by 3:00 p.m. light to moderate rain moving in. this does not have the wind. 4:00, 5:00, looking at the scattered showers and light to moderate in intensity. another system follow over the weekend. morning lows in the 40s. it will be stormy. it will be a tough ride. it might be scary at times so just want to make you aware of it. afternoon highs in the 50s. do look out for thunderstorm potential not just in the morning,
