big island. meanwhile, hurricane julio, a category 3, is not far behind. let's track iselle first because this is the storm we're concerned about right now. again, just beginning to make landfall on the big island. it will pass over the island out to sea tomorrow moving due west south of the remaining chain of islands. but then julio comes behind, and that'll be either category 1 hurricane or a strong tropical storm as it passes north of the islands over the weekend. if it stays on this track it will have very little effect on the island except for some gusty winds and light rain. but right now we're in the island and all the residents and visitors are brafting for the brunt of hurricane iselle. ama and dan? >> thank you, spencer. >> right now on the big island of hawaii those beautiful beaches are closed as-is'll moves in. more than 10,000 hawaiian electric light customers on the big island are without power right now. state officials have opened shelters on every island, but at least one of those shelters also lost power this evening. over the last couple of days meals on wheels volunteers in honolulu have delivered enough meals to seniors to last five days. and the governor says hawaii will be able to recover from iselle and respond to julio, not far behind. as the winds gained speed, the surf rose and the rain began to fall, hawaii prepared for hurricane iselle and trailing hurricane julio to make landfall. >> we prepared for immediate response. we have our resources in place. >> reporter: the governor has the national guard on alert. schools have been closed, shelters opened. hawaii hasn't been hit with a storm this strong in 22 years. the residents put up plywood to protect windows. >> this plywood will keep anything flying away from my windows. >> reporter: on maui sandbags were strategic placed but they were in short supply, forcing some to improvise. >> sandbags are all sold out. i have a whole row of duct tape. these will slow the water down. >> reporter: drinkable water and food flew off store shelves. some vacationers decided to head back to the mainland. we caught some of them at sfo. >> we were supposed to come book saturday but it would require us to fly in between hurricanes. so we didn't want to risk it. >> and right now flights in and out of hawaii airports are only experiencing delays of 15 minutes or less right now. an autonomous robot created by a sunnyvale-based liquid robotics company is live-tweeting the storms. the wave glider holoholo is current i. in the water off the coast of hawaii. here's a picture it took just a short time ago. and you can see just how rough the water is at this point as this storm moves ashore. if you'd like to follow the wave glider going go to our website, abc7news.com. >> we will continue to follow the situation in hawaii on air and online. our coverage continues on twitter @abc7newsbayarea. president obama has authorized air strikes against isis, also known as -- in iraq. the president made at nounsment from the white house. mr. obama said american fighter jets and drones are permitted to carry on these strikes if isis advances toward the northern city of irbil where u.s. military advisers are stationed along with a consulate office. >> we intend to stay vigilant and take action if these terrorist forces threaten our personnel or facilities anywhere in iraq. including our consulate in irbil and our embassy in baghdad. we're also providing urgent assistance to iraqi government and kurdish forces so they can more effectively wage the fight against isis. >> the military has already started humanitarian aid, drops to help iraqis who've retreated to a mountain to hide out from isis. after a weekend home invasion that turned into a sexual assault, there's been another home invasion in fremont. this time the suspects assaulted a grandmother while she was baby-sitting her grandchild. abc 7 news reporter alan wang is live at fremont police headquarters, where they're working this case. alan? >> reporter: ama, when the call came in, police here were told this was a crime in progress. so they showed up in full force with their guns drawn. at the same time the victim's husband, who was also notified, drove up to the house and ran in, telling police not to shoot. >> so when i call her and i heard her on the phone and she said uuhhhhh, something like that, and i stop my work. >> reporter: after receiving a call from his 54-year-old wife in distress, foo fun found her lying in the doorway of their home. >> my wife's right here. right here. with the duct tape. >> reporter: she had passed out and could barely breathe through the tape. only one other person, their 9-month-old granddaughter haley was at home asleep in this hammock during the robbery around 2:30 wednesday afternoon. >> i feel afraid for my mother. >> reporter: terry phan says her mother was cooking when two men entered the house from the back door and put a gun to her head. they stole designer handbags and some personal items but no cash. >> we don't carry kacash in thi house. we know asians are targeted and known for carrying a lost cash, and we understand and don't do that. >> reporter: both suspects wore hats and covered their faces but they're believed to be asian men. both about 5'10" and between 30 and 35 years of age. >> our detectives are still working on this case, and we desperately want to find the suspects responsible for committing this crime in our community. >> reporter: now police are asking residents in the ardenwood neighborhood to examine their surveillance video for any signs of these suspects. in fremont, alan wang, abc 7 news. a bay area woman known as the serial stowaway was arrested again today just hours after she was told to stay away from l.a.x. 62-year-old marilyn hartman was taken into custody at l.a.x. this morning for violating terms of her probation. yesterday a judge ordered her to stay away from the airport unless she had a valid ticket. she was arrested on monday after she managed to sneak past san jose security and fly to los angeles without a ticket. today authorities believe she was trying to stow away on yet another flight. >> i was really flabbergasted. >> she spent about one hour here at the airport, going into several terminals, in what appeared to be that she was scouting them out. >> los angeles police say they might evaluate hartman for signs of mental illness. she's already walked out of voluntary treatment program in the bay area saying she didn't like the people there. police say a truck driver is dead after a rollover accident today in fairfield. this ramp connects eastbound 80 to southbound 680. it was closed just before 5:00 but is due to reopen at any moment now. police say the cab hit the concrete barrier, then the trailer skidded against the safety wall before flipping over. dozens of people turned out for a candlelight vigil tonight in sunnyvale. 20-year-old ernesto castro sanchez was shot and killed at encenal park over the weekend. it's the first homicide this year in sunnyvale. police believe it was a gang-related shooting. the vigil was sponsored by the group mothers against murder to bring awareness to the community about the victims. a san francisco man has been arrested again on charges he stole mail and used it to scam elderly people in the sunset district. 30-year-old giovani lorato was arrested last week for mail fraud, identity theft, and elder abuse. he was busted for the same thing back in june. with this latest arrest he now faces more than 60 counts of theft and fraud. his bail's been set at half a million dollars. an extraordinary road trip. coming up next on abc 7 news, tonight one man's journey to learn about america one family at a time. plus, problems persist at a local skate park. why this video is raising some major concerns tonight. and it's being called underage pornography. the shocking american apparel ad that some say absolutely crosses the line. but first, here's jimmy kimmel. >> thank you. here is a quick snapshot of tonight's festivities. >> there are some advantages to >> there are some advantages to not having teeth. so i get invited to quite a few family gatherings. heck, i saved judith here a fortune with discounts like safe driver, multi-car, paperless. you make a mighty fine missus, m'lady. i'm not saying mark's thrifty. let's just say, i saved him $519, and it certainly didn't go toward that ring. am i right? the height of that fence because skaters have been jumping it to use the park after hours. park officials say they are considering a change. two runways at san francisco international airport will reopen a month ahead of schedule. the runway's close in may. officials say they'll open sunday rather than in mid-septemb mid-september. they built buffer zones to stop a plane if it overshoots the runway. workers finished safety upgrades on the other two runways last year. a controversial american apparel ad is being called urbi. some even say it's underage porn. the pictures were reportedly san francisco, 60 in oakland, low to mid 60s in san carlos and san jose upper 50s at gilroy and half moon bay. there's a live view from our explore torium camera looking at part of the skyline of here at abc 7. these are forecast pictures. we'll see fog locally pushing beyond the coast and locally inland overnight. spotty drizzle is possible, although widespread drizzle not likely at all. we'll have a pretty steady pattern of mild to warm weather. temperatures in the upper 50s to low 60s with fog at the coast moving locally out over the bay and inland and speaking of moving inland tomorrow morning 5:00 look for some patches of fog that may reduce visibility in the early morning hours for morning xhourcommuters but we d expect it to pull quickly back to the coastline as you follow the animation here. we'll end up with a sunny day inland and over bait and along parts of the coastline as well with that familiar 30 degree temperature range we often see in summer between coastal highs and he inland highs. let's get down to specific locations in the south bay. sunny and warm tomorrow with highs mainly in the low 80s. 80 in santa clara. 81 in san jose. on the peninsula we'll see highs of 74. redwood city 75. mountain view on the coast. a little on the cool side. 62 pacifica. 63 at half moon bay. in and around san francisco we'll see highs in the mid up toer 60s tomorrow. north bay highs, they'll vary a bit from 78 is the number to 87 at calistoga. over in the east bay look for highs at 72 at oakland 77 castro valley 75 at union city and the inland east bay will have highs generally in the upper 80s. walnut creek 86, 87 at concord, 89 at fairfield, 90 antioch and 91 brentwood. here's the accuweather seven-day forecast. i was talking about that steady pattern. this is it. we'll see high temperatures inland for the next seven days right around 90 degrees give or take a degree. the high temperatures right around the bay about 80 degrees or so. and on
