It appears the driver attempted to flee the the scene to avoid Police Detention for the stolen vehicle that they were in. Again, that vehicle was reported stolen out of oakland earlier today. Officers arrested a passenger in that stolen car. He was not injured. More breaking news tonight. A fire in san jose left one person dead and another homeless. The firefighters got to the home on jean avenue around 7 30 tonight. One person died the at the scene but crews were able to rescue an elderly man. The red cross is there helping that man find a place to stay tonight. Well have more information at 11 00. Several masked men pulled off a lowtech highrisk burglary of a large collectible showcase in retail store in San Franciscos Mission district. It happened this morning and as a you can see from this picture the men left a big mess behind as they made off with a lot of valuable stuff. Vic lee has the story. Just hear more and more breakins and i guess they call smash and grabs. Reporter the robbery happened early this morning at about 4 30. Some of the businesses 40 security cameras captured it all from four to six thieves wearing black were involved in the brazen theft. Coowner james believes they even hired street people to help them. They used people on the streets as lookouts while they did their work. They came up in their vehicle after someone let them know it was fine to come over. Reporter the robbers gather outside the store. One of them uses a slingshot to smash the front glass door, then they all storm into the building and begin. The building is rented to some 60 dealers who sell porcelain, jewelry and a wide range of vintage collectibles. Inside, the thieves are quick. They begin taking items off the shelves, displays and counter tops. Hickel who doesnt want his last name used was hard hit. That whole shelf was removed that had jewelry, lets see, rings and mostly sterling and gold. There the are half a dozen high profile robberies in San Francisco in the past six months where thieves used cars as battering rams. The bold is crash and grab and the heist in january where thieves drove an suv into the glass entrance. Police are looking to see if this latest robbery is linked to the others. We dont know if this is a copy cat except not using a vehicle, but this seems to be the latest trend. So far there have been no arrests in the wells fargo robbery and none in the others either. Vic lee, abc 7 news. And a shocking attack on a little girl in San Franciscos marina district. Police have identified the 31yearold suspect as this guy. They say the fiveyearold girl was walking with her mother near union when he grabbed her suddenly. Her mother called 911 and officer as were on the scene within minutes. The girl was walking with her mother when this man came up to the child, grabbed her by the neck and lifted her off the ground and placed her on the side of a building. He is charged with false inimprisonment and more. The little girl is okay. Hundreds marched for a higher minimum wage. This is the mark in berkeley. The rally was organized by union groups and labor interests as part of the fight for 15 movement. Its an a effort to increase the minimum wage to 15 an hour and unionize which would help battle for Health Benefits better wages and improved working conditions. We as a nation come together and have a living wage for people, everybody will benefit. The city of oakland recently increased the minimum wage to 13. 25 an hour. He said when minimum wages are mandated, it levels the Playing Field for Small Business owners because everyone increases prices to cover the costs. It was certainly a challenge. State water officials today said they will elect a barrier to keep salt watter out of the Drinking Water supply. The rock barrier will be built in the delta near oak lee.
