nine are confirmed dead. relatives of the passengers gathered at a ferry dock anxi s anxiously waiting for word about their loved ones. it went down off jindo island. >> reporter: a desperate rescue mission. first responders struggling to reach the massive ferry on its side and sinking fast. many of the passengers teenagers off the deck, clutching railings to keep their footing. piling into rescue boats. it was very intense, this man says, e ship was tilted more than 45 degrees. helicopters drops first responders onto the sinking boat. this woman clinging to a ball conn -- ball cony railing. and from frigid 50-degree water. watch as this life raft is thrown to survivors in the middle of the sea. the ferry was sailing to a southern resort island. most of the passengers high school students on a class trip. nearing the end of the journey, the passengers say they heard a thud. the cabins on the upper decks. but one floor below, the crowded cafeteria and game room where many are thought to have been trapped. and tonight, questions about whether those passengers were told to wait for help. the announcement told us that we should stay still, this boy said, but the ship was already sinking it. it took just two hours from the boat to go from this to this. hundreds of angry, frantic families. some parents had received texts from their children. dad, i can't walk out, wrote one girl. the corridor is full of kids and it's too tilted. from another student, mom, i might not be able to tell you in person, i love you. tonight those parents scanning a handwritten list of the survivors searching for their children's names. so many parents lost in their an wish. the latest numbers are at least six dead, more than 200 still missing. >> gloria riviera reporting from south korea. members of the bay area korean community are looking for ways to help. >> happening now, emergency crews on the scene of an apparent boating accident in the bay. they've towed a vessel called bella to shore. a body has been brought to the dock. we have crews on the scene. we'll bring you any updates during this newscast and our reportering also continued on twitter. the deadly crash between a tour bus and a fedex truck happened a week ago tomorrow. that's when the chp will recreate the collision. they will conduct the recreation near the crash site in the town of orland. ten people died in the collision, among them, five high school students. all but one of the dozens injured have been released from hospitals. 14 people are hurt after two fire trucks crashed in southern california. the accident happened around 3:00 this afternoon in monterrey park. two fire trucks were headed to a house fire when they slammed into each other in an intersecti intersection. sex people were treated at the scene, another nine were taken to the hospital. >> a house fire today took the lives of a san francisco woman and her toddler. tonight,s victim's family members are talking about what might have sparked the flames. >> reporter: a woman tucked behind yellow tape clings to a little boy. the victims who died in the fire were about the same ages. >> so hysterical. i found out when i got here the baby didn't make it. >> reporter: she struggles to contain her emotion. >> he gone. he not here no more. >> reporter: his mother also parished in that -- perished in that fire. she says the victims were her 33-year-old niece and her 3-year-old son. >> i work graveyard. i went to sleep this morning. i woke up people talking about fire, fire, fire. >> reporter: she jumped out the window and escaped without injury, but certainly not without harm. her longings charred to pieces. this is what little remains of the mat rest. a crowd gathers to watch as firefighters investigated. mothers cuddled toddlers perhaps a bit tighter than before. she says her niece often left food on the stove. >> my niece is good at leaving stuff on the stove and leaving it unattended. she done that so many times. >> reporter: ms. brooks says the culprit is something else. >> i told my brother numerous times go get the baby. it's not safe for him to be there. >> reporter: in san francisco, tiffany wilson, abc7 news. ka da version dogs have found possible remains over the weekend. this man is now charged with starting the fire. he's 55-year-old stillman zeffer. witnesses say they saw him pour, squirt, or spray something right before the fire broke out. homeless people were known to live inside, including the man himself. no word yet on a motive. a new twist this evening in what started out as a kidnapping report from a teenage girl. police now say it may be a case of sex trafficking. the girl says she was kidnapped and robbed in oakland this morning. witnesses say living in the neighborhood, they womb up around around 5:00 a.m. to the sound of a girl screaming that something had been sprayed in her eyes and been raped. she was taken to the hospital. the only update police are giving tonight is that it now appears to be a sex trafficking case. a santa cruz county man was in federal court this afternoon. the early morning raid took place in the live oak neighborhood at 37th avenue. neighbors say about 60 asians -- agents descended on the home. the man was aarrested. they say he was taken into custody on a weapon's charge. >> it now appears the as 2013. we have the story from redwood city. >> reporter: how would you like an extra half a million dollars? they asked 1.4 million and got nearly 1.9. >> really, the past foyer of five months has been a market that we haven't seen in a very long time. >> reporter: this realtor says this is just one example. >> it just bolls me over that it got close to $2 million. >> reporter: she says the whole character of the neighborhood is changing. >> i would say two or three properties every couple of months come on the market and they sell basically over night. >> reporter: rigs says buyers are having a rough time of it. >> they're settling for something they don't quite like and they're paying a lot more than they feel like they have to. >> we have a little girl on the way. that was actually the overnight of a korean ferry boat. nearly 300 people are unaccounted for tonight. what caused the boat to capsize and sink is still unknown, but the u.s. navy is on the way to help find the missing passengers. >> reporter: cell phone video shows some of the high school students had time to put on life vests. others found themselves submerged and possibly trapped as the ferry capsized and sank. many began to text furiously to say good-bye to loved ones. it was supposed to be a fun four-day trip. at breakfast time, the ferry began to shake and take on water. this 17-year-old girl had been texting too about the ferry incident. >> we should all pray for them and they're trying to spread the word. >> reporter: the south bay is home to a large korean-american community where residents have been fwglued to tv coverage. many looks for what they can do to help grieving families in south korea. >> i think the pastor will talk about it. >> reporter: how can you help? >> pray for them. whatever the church, they decide what to do, we going to follow them. >> reporter: the u.s. navy is sending in helicopters to support the search operation. beyond that, they are uncertain what they can do. >> when there's issues, we have fundraisers here to send money. we've had events such as that. but as of right now, it's too early to say what we can do for the families there. >> reporter: we know at this point about five of the six people who died, three are young men and high school students. in santa clara, abc7 news. police are stepping up patrols in boston one day after a masked man walked into the street with a rice cooker in his backpack on the anniversary of the marathon bombing. a judge ordered him to be evaluated at a state psychiatric hospital. his mother says he has battle the bipolar disorder for years. they are asking people to leave backpacks at home. more than a million are expected to be on the sidelines. a los angeles county judge has given a former city manager the maximum sentence. robert rizzo has been ordered to make restitution of $8.8 million. he apologized for his actions during today's sentences. >> i breached the public's confidence by starting to across the united states on foot to raise money for awareness of the brain injury association of america. she started her cross country trip to new york city this morning. she was there to
